responsible for this damage. >> we have no responsibilities from death. julia sims is on the ground. she will join us shortly, but we begin with elizabeth gardener who still says we have blustery conditions out there right now. >> we are. that's in effect until 2:00 this afternoon. this is a look at the storm reports from yesterday. it is customary for the national weather service to survey and see if it was a tornado or straight-line winds. they are up here looking at this particular cell that came through and produced some tornado damage. we had 7 reports of tornado damage in our viewing area yesterday.

individual tornados. we had 7 individual areas that had damage. there were a couple of buildings that were destroyed there. cells developing some damage there. five miles south. 4:it moved up to grantville county. the weather service will be up there determining if it was one tornado that did all that

we've seen a lot of pictures. plenty of sunshine for the first part of the day. the flags are really whipping around. we have that wind advisory in effect until 2:00 this afternoon. here's a look at some of the wind gusts. 29 at rocky mount. those are some of the higher ones i've seen. we may gust up to 45 or 50 this afternoon. after mid-day, we should start to see that ease up a little bit. the winds will be dying down. it looks like we have quiet weather into the weekend. we'll talk about that more in a few minutes. thank you very much. this just coming into us. national weather service confirming that the tornado struck grantville county. >> julia is on the phone right now with a look at the damage

what she sees there. >> reporter: we're actually on the phone because we've been experiencing some heavy winds up here. we didn't feel comfortable going live. that being said, this is a hub of activity up here. they've been moving in the heavy equipment. they've got the backhoes here. we're at the dairy farm. they're trying to move all this rubble and debris out of here. three homes in grantville county along with this dear ri farm, which we now know, it was a tornado that ripped through here and tore down buildings and equipment all over the place. this is definitely a community effort. lots of folks coming out here

the biggest concern from his point of view is the power. we've seen duke energy and some of the utility crews out here. we're told we need to get the power on. they need to be milk milked twice a day, but they're relying on generators to do that. nobody was hurt. none of the animals were hurt, and no people were injured. at the end of the day, they say that's what matters. >> i know you got that information just moments ago. >> yes. confirming where julia is. let's head to another area hard hit by this storm.

county. arielle, what are you seeing? >> reporter: we're on rose briar drive. one of the worst-hit homes in this neighborhood is this one. the tree cracked at the base and fell onto the house. i talked to the homeowner about 15 minutes ago. she said the tree is over the part of the house where the living room sits. there are trees down all over this neighborhood. we want to show you some video down the street where work is being done to clean up other downed trees and branches. they brought out a woodchiper to clean things up. they are recalling some of the most intense moments during all this.

inside her closet. everything happened so fast. >> i kept peeking out, and i could see the trees that were leaning. i heard it in the back, and then i heard out front, a lot of crash, and everything falling. i called my husband, and i said, we've got a problem here, and i don't know what it is. >> reporter: the owner of the tree service says a bucket truck will be headed into the road briar drive to help with a tree that fell on a shed. this will be a busy day for him as well as the homeowners. >> one quick question: i know yesterday you were in grantville.

during a storm. a power line collapsed. in queens, the coast guard lifted seven crew members from a fishing boat that ran aground during rough seas. the five-member coast card group was able to swim to shore. no injuries reported from either crew. waiverly, virginia was hit hard. at least three people, including a two-year-old boy. neighbor vincent mcdonald was there when it came through. >> i don't know. , but i survived. >> reporter: homeowners, farmers, and businesses are now assessing the damage.

resco edg selves a jamie mentioned this while ago, but they're trying to determine if weather played a role in the collapse of a building in the bronx. they say it was vacant. residents of a two-family home were evacuated due to structural safety concerns. a kentucky man is recovering from serious burns after his e cigarette battery exploded in his pocket. it happened at a gas station. the man was waiting in line, and it explodes. the man ran out of the store and ripped off his pants. an employee behind the counter grabbed a fire extinguisher and put out the flames. some more incredible

a car crash that caused lane closures in seattle just before 5:00. a motorcycle helmet's cam caught this. look at the intense flames as drivers rush to the scene. you can even hear him say no one was inside the car. no word on what caused the crh wt pped to that driver. now, they're used to rescuing others, but a coast guard crew had to be pulled from the water. their boat flipped while they were in route to assist a fishing vessel in distress. all five crewmen were rescued safely. we have a new out-of-the- world image of the milky way galaxy.

it from time to time. winds should start to die down a little more through the afternoon. it is blustery and chilly out there. we are drying out the atmosphere even though we have some cloud cover. it's 53 in irwin and fayetteville. we have fairly uniform gradually warming up into the 50s. yesterday, it was the 60s and the 70s. it's 14 to 15 degrees colder than we were yesterday. we started this morning with temperatures from the low to mid-40s. we're going to bump up to mid- 50s by this afternoon. from there, temperatures will
