4:25 pm
anyone born between 1982 and 2000 the largest generation in the country but have the lowest turn out of any group in the election. the youth vote in the 2012 presidential election exceeded the margin of victory and a shift in how that group voted millennials could have effected the outcome. north carolina was on that list because young population votes differently than the older population. 76% voted for barrack obama and other age groups voted for john mccain. you got to get out to vote. >> that's a cool thing to be able to do finally so take advantage of it. so you know when you are on a road trip and you got to make a pit stop and it ends up being 30 miles away. this is cool google maps is adding a new feature to download or find out where the pit stops are. tap on the magnifying glass and

grocery stores or coffee shops, gas stations but it let's you know where the next pit stop is. >> i remember coming back from florida on i-95 thinking when is the next rest stop. had to go on line and look. >> and you tell your child you'll get there in a minute. >> when i see this next topic i think of the scene from gilligan's island where the professor made the contraption to wash the clothes with the stationary bike. this is pretty cool. students from the national in china came up with a version of that concept. why not do laundry while exercising. instead of a wheel it's a bike washing machine. it looks small and how long you would have to pedal to complete a load of laundry especially during the spin cycle. so how many people is it going to take because i don't think i

>> you get in shape and wash your clothes at the same time. >> that's an awesome idea. >> pretty cool but i'm too lazy. >> so the pants you are washing will be too small because the thighs will be bigger after washing them. >> and you'll probably do several loads. >> if you are by yourself a single person college kids or whoever they don't have much. >> it's a cool design. >> looks good. >> that's funny. >> we have links to the story on facebook. let us know if there's a topic that's trending. send us a tweet or message on facebook. maybe you want to know what programs are on wral. follow us on twitter for all of your favorite shows and people on them. it's handy go to your twitter feed right there. repair work under way on the coast. >> what crews are quickly working to fix. plus hilary clinton and donald trump.

grabs texas is senator ted cruz's home state. steve has the latest on the voting. steve? >> high linda and gerald. thanks. first of all let me say how pleased i am as an nbc reporter to be on wral, such a power house in north carolina coming to you tonight live from ted cruz election headquarters stafford, texas outside houston where cruz needs to celebrate a win tonight. texas senator ted cruz cast his vote on a super tuesday that's do or die for him. >> any candidate who cannot win his own state has real problems. >> state polls show leads over donald trump. >> i voted for ted cruz primarily because i don't want donald trump to get those electoral votes in texas. need to stop his momentum. >> but trump could sweep ten of the eleven super tuesday states. he and chris christie are talking duff.
4:32 pm
these guys don't know anything. they have no clue what's going on. >> the next two weeks his desperate opponents will say and do anything to try to dare him down. >> america's top elected republican tried today. house speaker paul ryan on trump not reputing the kkk. >> if a person wants to be the nominee of the republican party there can be no games. they must reject any group or cause that is built on bigotry. >> marco rubio trying to hold on two weeks until the vote in florida called trump unelectable. and hilary clinton continued to talk against him. like trump clinton could win every super tuesday state but one, vermont where bernie sanders hopes for a big turn out and other liberal states. >> if there's not we are probably going to struggle. >> like ted cruz if he loses
4:33 pm
>> cruz and rubio and sanders could get some delegates tonight but it will never be enough delegates until they start winning contests like ted cruz has back in iowa and could be doing again today here in his home state. from ted cruz headquarters outside houston i'm steve handlesman from wral news. linda back to you. >> your introduction was so nice steve. we will be forward to working with you and battle of the blues this weekend you have a dog in that fight. we hear you are-- >> indeed. [laughter] >> thanks steve we appreciate it live in houston. some local perspective on super tuesday we turn to dr. david mcclellan. thank you for being with us. could hilary clinton and donald trump run away with it to be. >> they could win the race. they couldn't get all of the delegates but if there's a
4:34 pm
could be very difficult for bernie sanders on the democratic side and any one of the republicans to catch up. >> ted cruz needs to win his home state of texas. if he doesn't what kind of pressure is going to be on him to step down. >> it's embarrassing to lose your own state. it would be difficult to see a way through it but marco rubio has not won a state yet. he's looking towards virginia for a pick up. >> the republican establishment if you want to call him that is looking for a one on one race. could a trump sweep effectively give us one if one of the other two candidates bows out because of it. >> it could. donald trump wants both rubio and cruz to stay in the race because the longer he stays in a three way race he matches up nicely so again we could see a two person race if trump takes all 11 states and then it's still going to be a difficult task. the best perhaps cruz or rubio could hope for is to keep
4:35 pm
enough delegates from getting the nomination and going to cleveland for the nomination. >> let's talk about delegates. does bernie sanders have a path if he gets bombed again tonight. >> hilary clinton has the superdelegates but he's looking to small delegate states. hilary clinton is going to pick up a lot of delegates through the south. she's got the infrastructure in place and does so well with minority voters it's hard to see bernie sanders catching up. >> interesting to see what happens and have all of that coverage here on wral. thank you doctor. >> thank you gerald. >> count on wral for complete coverage of super tuesday and nbc nightly news with lester holt begins at 6:30 and tune into for the news at midnight because of the basketball game for a complete wrap up. linda? >> thanks gerald. trouble on the coast. the beacon isn't flashing. it's supposed to rotate like this creating a flash of light
4:36 pm
the problem is the turn table that rotates is stuck. the issue popped up on social media this weekend. the national park service owns the building but the coast guard maintains the lights and crews are working to fix the problem. the rolling stones will play a free concert in cuba. it's the first time to perform in the country and the biggest act to play in cuba since 1959. the concert is march 25 three days after president obama visits havana expected to draw a huge audience. >> it's amazing how a gentleman that old can move that way. he's not old but still older than people that i've seen that age move. >> it's like he doesn't have joints sometimes too. >> gosh. >> he can do it. still to come encouraging news about the flu vaccine this season. it's working better. however parents shouldn't let their guard down against the virus. >> in some cases the virus has turned deadly.
