the preliminary autopsy are on target. back to you. >> thank you. a machine appealing his murder convict is set to get another hearing in wake county. jason young was convicted during his second trial of killing his pregnant wife 10 years ago. young claims his defense was ineffective and he deserves a new trial. first case ended in a mistrial. a man remains in the hospital after he led police on counties. wral learned that a police officer used a taser stun gun on the driver. now, the state bureau of investigation is reviewing the case. wral's bryan mims joins us live from the scene with this new information. >> reporter: that chase ended here at country store road and u.s. 70 outside selma. the pickup truck was heading south on current are you store road when the driver lost control, ran off the road and crashed into that grassy area behind me. police say that driver is 37- year-old alex thompson who

here is a look at the scene last night which had a large police presence. the state started yesterday afternoon in wilson county. a sheriff's spokeswoman says a deputy was trying to stop the pickup truck for speeding but the driver refused to stop. the chase went on through kenley and into johnston county with speeds exceeding 100 miles per hour. that dodge pickup crashed and according to the court document wral obtained, a kenley police officer fired a taser stun gun at the driver. it appeared the driver suffered a medical emergency on the scene appear went to wake med in critical condition. i spoke with a man today who says he knows alex thompson, the driver, and described him as a cancer survivor. he saw the chase go by his house. >> i was sort of disturbed about it because he is a great gay. never heard anything bad about him. he was just a god guy.

i never knew him to be in any trouble or anything. >> reporter: that court document received says the kenley police department engaged in a pursuit of someone wanted for a, quote, alleged criminal activity. i spoke with kenley police chief josh gibson. he declined to comment about whether a taser stun gun was deployed. that court document is an order from a judge to steal from public consumption the radio communications from the chase because it will, quote, jeopardize the right of a defendant to receive a fair trial and undermine an ongoing investigation. >> thank you, bryan. we are now learning how thieves made off with millions of dollars in gold bars. according to an fbi affidavit, three men use a gps device to follow the semi truck up i-95. they used a remote to set off spender spray inside the cab. that forced the driver to pull over near wilson.

that a former lapd traffic cop recently turned the knife over to detectives. officials say that officer claims he was working off duty on a movie shoot near similar ton's former home 12 years ago when a construction worker gave him the knife. >> he claimed that an individual would claimed to be a construction worker provided him with the knife claiming that it was found on the property. >> reporter: a jury aquitted simpson of all charges in 1995. since then, the case has remained open. the murder weapon has never been found and investigators are treating this discovery with skepticism. >> we need to, one, first of all, determine is this evidence? and if it is not evidence, how do we prove one way or another that the not. the only way to do that is by being able to challenge the pelenvveas to what -- where it was recovered, where it was alleged to have been, et cetera. >> reporter: o.j. simpson is currently in prison if an unrelated conviction.

a raleigh man is accused of stealing more than $3,000 worth of crab legs from a local market. according to an arrest warrant, amplet rtis barber stole cab legs on three separate occasions from capital seafood on maywood avenue. the proposed program to get more students through unc and do it more efficiently doesn't meet major objectives. that is the findings of a report from the unc system and the community college system. the gairn treated admissions program would focus on low income minority an rural communities. but the report shows it would do more harm than good. the number of students from those communities could actually drop. it could also result in one experts call a brain drain where more highly qualified students leave the state or go to a private college. the program could also hurt admissions and enrollment for hbcus.

plto0 megs $ m for a y on ah y. of a tense week following a deadly police shooting, a local community looks to heal. funeral services wrapped up for akiel denkins. the 4-year-old man was killed on monday after a chase and shooting by a police officer. >> we have wral's cullen browder looking at raleigh's recent history. he joins us live downtown with those details. >> reporter: a shooting like this really tend to heighten the community tension and any existing distrust in the police. so we tea sided to take a closer look at the instances of police shootings in raleigh.

here in raleigh was back in 2008. that is when renford robbed and carjacked a cab driver. he confronted officers way straight razor. he was shot and later died. in the past decade or so, raleigh pd averages about one shooting per year. compare that to about a thousand service calls per day and hundreds of reported assaults per year on officers themselves. community leader argue more trust needs to be built because even one police shooting is too many. >> it is that communication between the police and the community that would be very effective in driving toward us having a better city and a better trust in the police and the police having a better trust in the community they are serving. >> raleigh officers come to work every day with three goals, provide the best service they can, not have to use deadly force and be able to go hem at the end.

it is moving away. our next system is here across the upper midwest. there is some snow and rain and that will dive down to the south an east. we'll look at -- track that movement of that system and then there is a big storm off in the pacific. this is going to be bringing some heavy rain into the western part of the country. california should get a real soaking especially northern california and it is this system that will eventually evolve into a deep trough of low pressure across the southern plains and it will really soak the mid high pressure mississippi valleys next week. for us, it will help warm us up. let's advance to the upper level winds and temperatures. there is the the storm that came by last night. here is the one that comes in tomorrow. notice how the trough kind of amplifies a little bit and will bring the chance for rain overght saturday into early sunday morning suayhould be still cool with highs in the 50s. we have the ridge of high pressure beginning to build in by monday. there is monday, march 7th and we're talking about a warmer day with 60s and then all the yellows and reds start to approach. tuesday, we are expecting low 70s.
