school where they will be practicing later this morning. >> reporter: good morning. today's drill is not just for kids, emergency service officials are encouraging everyone to participate. spring is peak tornado season, last year the national weather service reports that 9 tornados happened across the state of north carolina. the combined cost of damage from tornados flash floods and storms is about $12.5 million, one of the best things you can do is be prepared. a few things that experts suggest. first, listen to local radio and television when severe weather is likely. also, if a warning is issued, a tornado has been spotted in your area, take shelter if you are at home, go to the lowest floor of the house and get away from windows, go in to a hallway. if you are driving get out of the car and take cover in a low
