ve tr tomorrow marks the 10-year anniversary of the duke lacrosse case. false rape allegations divided the duke community. >> reality set in for them. they were so naive. i mean they truly were kids that were saying, we don't understand how this is turning into this. tomorrow night, espn airs a special on the case that caught the nation's attention. wral's julia sims spoke to some those key players in the case about the anniversaries and the lessons learned. you can watch that report on wral.com. so have you filed your taxes yet? if not, the fbi says that you have to get on it. 5 on your side's monica laliberte tells us why the message is coming from that agency. >> reporter: yes, doing your taxes is a pain but don't put

peggy shay and her husband are just some of the many victims of a growing tax scam aimed at stealing refunds. >> last year, when we filed our taxes, the irs had flagged our account because someone had filed a phony return under my husband's social security number. the best way to keep it from happening to you, file early. as the irs told us last year, beat the scammers to the punch and you'll get your refund sooner and considering that roughly 2/3 of americans get a refund and the average is for about $2700, that part is good. even if you owe money, there are still some advantages to filing early. >> that way, you'll have plenty of time to figure out where the money is going to come from or to set up a payment schedule. this year, you have to pay by april 18th. and you don't want to be late and incur any penalties or fines. >> another benefit to getting

able to get a better deal on college financial aid. money. no matter when you file, don't rush through it. check accuracy to avoid amending the return later. that could trigger penalties and fines. monica laliberte, 5 on your side. of course, that deadline about a month away. >> that's right. it's coming up on us. can, it will get here before you know it. we also had some areas of clouds come up on us this morning and other areas that have seen a little sunshine from time to time. it's going to be one of those somewhat variable days out there. most of us will see more clouds than sun. a couple of sprinkles and light showers in the north as well. we'll show you what's going on with those. better channels in the morning and they may tend to fade away a little bit. if you are up around roanoke rapids. henderson, roxboro, you might have seen a couple of sprinkles or patches. a lot of that is fading out at
9:48 am
that does not mean that we could not see one or two isolated sprinkles or pockets of light rain develop again as we go through the day but the chances of that are pretty slight and i would not plan on any rain today for most of us, if you are doing something outdoors, go ahead and plan for doing that. we may have gray skies for a good part, but some breaks in the clouds are not out of the question from time to time. museum of natural science sky cam showing some clouds over at the durham airport. 64 the current temperature with the east wind at 30 miles per hour. as we take a look at the wider view of temperatures across the region, 61 degrees up in roxboro. 64 for fayetteville and erwin. one place where we are seeing some 50s, south hill, virginia with 58. patches of mid and high level

that left us fairly bright at time, fairly gray at others. today, we have some lower level moisture over parts of the state and that's leading to lower cloud cover and that will hang around a good bit of the day. we have low pressure off to the southwest. that's been spinning its wheel over mexico and texas for a while. starting the weekend now, should be lifting to the north and east over the next 24 to 36 hours and then another disturbance comes along with the west. on the eastern periphery of this low pressure area, there is moisture, areas of shower activity and some of that may brush its way up to north carolina tomorrow, especially here in the evening. we have this front call boundary that's very shallow slope. so some ofthe rain and moisture associated with it will start to drift to the east. we can't entirely rule out a couple of sprinkles popping back up. but we are not expecting a lot of that.

couple of showers, maybe a couple of bands or streaks where the band might break. as we head towards morning, a lot of low clouds out there, there might be a pocket of fog but most of us will be dry. as we get into the mid-day hours into the afternoon, chance of scattered hit or miss showers go up. isolated thunderstorm mixed in in one or two spots. moles of us are seeing shower activity. for the day, we are looking for a high around 74 degrees in the triangle, warmer to the south and cooler to the north. about 68 at lunchtime. by 4:00 or 5:00, we'll hit that high. later tonight, low of 58. we start at 60, maybe some fog and low clouds and that chance of precipitation in the afternoon.
9:51 am
are warming up a bit with mixture. it would not be impossible for one of those showers to turn severe across north carolina and virginia on monday. keep tuned as we head through the next couple of days. right now, that looks like a low-end probability. 82 on wednesday with more sun than clouds those days and then a frontal boundary will bring us more clouds. we may have some 50s for highs coming in after that. we'll have to get a little closer to see. >> thank you so much, mike. memberof a fitness class didn't know their endurance would be tested when a man collapsed. >> we did cpr a total of 15 minutes before the ambulance came.
