secretary state john kerry says isis is committing genocide against christians and other minorities in syria and iraq. this is only the second time the u.s. executive branch member has used the term genocide during at ongoing conflict. secretary kerry says we must destroy isis by force. >> the united states responded quickly by denouncing these horrific acts. more importantly taking coordinated actions to counter them. >> congress has been pressing the state department to label isis's acts as genocide. giving them a march 17 deadline for their review of the terrorist group. the new controversial ordinance is set to take effect april 1. some lawmakers have vowed to block it. they will allow transgender people to use the restroom of the gender that they will identify with and that today's supporters came to raleigh. the capital bureau chief was there in the newsroom following the developments. laura? >> reporter: the republican lawmakers are still trying to decide whether to return for a special session to outlaw the charlotte non-description

effect on april 1. supporters of the ordinance came today to tell lawmakers to leave it alone. the ordinance bans discrimination against gay and transgender people like hotels and restaurants, that they also allow the transgender people to use the restroom of the gender in which they identify. that is crucially important to eric coo lakowitz, beaten to death while she was walking down the street. now she has a family and a job that she loves in charlotte. she worked to get that ordinance passed that portion her to use that men's room would put her at risk for the harassment and the assault. >> i have been using the woman's room for a very long time because it is safer for me to do that than run the risk. i would rather be judged in court than run the risk of getting my face beaten in again because that is more than likely the outcome of that. >> reporter: the republican leaders say that allowing people who were born male to use the women's restroom and vice versa poses a threat to public safety.

anyone with information to contact crime stoppers. the man identified by the fbi is the mastermind of the elaborate pot to steal $4.8 million in gold bars that was back in court today. that it was stolen from the truck parked on i-95 in wilson county last march. he was charged with robbery and other crimes in connection to the 2015 heist. the fbi says that they used gps to track the truck and then deployed pepper face to use that remote control to overwhelm the driver and the passenger. more arrests are expected. seaworld will no longer breathe orcas. they say that this generation of the killer whales will be the last. the company plans to slowly phase out the killer whale show at all seaworld parks by 2019 ashey will instead by on display in what are called natural orca encounters. they come amid years of increased scrutiny following the death of the trainer during the performance. the documentary titled black fish was also critical of the parks treatment in the animals.

january from the haven animal shelter in hope county that they stepped in and that they have been nursing the animals back to health. they broke the story of the raid and now join us live with more on the mega adoption. gilbert? >> hey, it is kind of quiet here right now. most of the animals were eating, a good thing. and if you are an animal lover that the address is 2215 nashville. i was here when the animals were taken by the sheriff's office, starting to be nursed back and look at them now, they are ready to be adopted. >> reporter: this is a massive operation. packed with about 300 dogs and a whole lot of loving. that several weeks ago they were in the outdoor shots in hope county.
