- ah, shoo we are following several new stories tonight on wral including unc's big win and what -- and weather problems for a flight from national to new york. >> that american eagle plane was hit by lightning heading to laguardia and converted to jfk airport when a bolt of lightning hit the plane around 6:of dose around 6 o'clock, caring 55 passengers and four crew members. passengers were shaken up but no one was hurt. a devastating crash in greenville killing one man and injuring two of his relatives. the hospital's emergency room crash. ken smith smoke -- spoke with

stopped by the home tonight. the family and many close friends or to shaken up to talk with us about mr. bachelor but they did talk with us off- camera. based on what we have learned from medical center officials, there were about 20 people in that waiting room including mr. bachelor and a couple of others. they and many others did not see this coming. >> reporter: patients are being seen just six hours after the crash in the early morning hours on thursday. he lost control of his car over some type of medical emergency. the vehicle rammed into the waiting room where mr. bachelor was sitting. two of his relatives were with him. according to family members,

minor injuries and was treated and released. is to bachelor died from his injuries. he was back at the hospital after being seriously injured last weekend. he had already spent several days in the hospital and was experiencing discomfort and returned. he was waiting to be seen when the crash happened. at last check, the man who caused the crash was treated. mr. bachelor was the kind of man who would do anything to help anyone out at any time. as you might expect, his family is devastated by this untimely loss. tonight, the fbi's is a stabbing rampage on a california university campus was inspired by isis. the 18-year-old had become self radicalized and planned his attack for at least a week. investigators say he had a backpack carrying a handwritten flight and a picture of the

classroom on november 4 is stabbed for students in a dispute about a study group and was eventually shot by police. the governor shut down the coal ash management commission. the group was formed to overlook the cleanup. that agency is overseen by the governor. the governor challenged the creation of the commission in court because he said it intruded on his executive authority. in january, the state supreme court essentially a grade. final preparations are being made for the largest animal adoption in aspca history. and adoption kicks off tomorrow to find homes for close to 60 dogs and cats. they were rescued six weeks ago from an unlicensed shelter. they will be held on nash street in sanford from 10 six tomorrow. adoption fees will be waived. with the number of flu

today, an arrest was made. adam joins us from the police department.>> reporter: gerald, years and years after this crime, someone finally came forward with a tip. in this case, police say it led them to an arrest. >> it appears it has been there for a while. how long, we don't know.>> reporter: wral was on the scene . >> i saw shoe and noticed it was unusual. and i walked about 20 feet further and saw something white. and i suspected it could be a school. >> reporter: a few feet away, there were more clothes and bones. at the time, police could not identify the remains.

taking a look at the racial distribution of traffics -- traffic stops. according to reports, like men are more likely to be pulled over by dura police from 2010 to 2015. black men are shown to be pulled over more during the day when you can see that at night when you cannot. looking at more than 151,000 traffic stops. measures to prevent racial profiling are in place and he believes the numbers will go down. republican lawmakers are still trying to decide whether to turn the -- return to a special session to pass the ordinance that allows transgender people to use the restroom with the gender with which they identify. the ordinance is set to pose a threat to public safety and
