[ music ] ?? >> those ladies are trying to get home to minnesota as you see. they are taking a positive outlook on it all when i ran into them they had been in line for an hour and 40 minutes just to see a desk agent. they hadn't even gone through security yet. throughout the day at rdu travelers faced incredible wait times up to four hours in line all of cours outage that caused a system wide shut down for six hours. many flights and cancellations as a result have been impacted in some way. travelers seem to be taking it all in stride. the terminal was calm and quiet other than of course a little singing. >> everybody is so nice.

he fired a shotgun from inside the house. several people outside the home were yelling and shouting profanities before the shooting. a resident and firefighter were injured in a house fire that investigators say was arson. the fire started in one of the bedrooms. firefighters were able to put it out quickly. one person was treated at the scene and a firefighter rushed to the hospital with burns. the fire damaged two bedrooms. this afternoon we are watc thunderstorms again. some storms could bring us heavy rain. mike mays is tracking the weather system. mike? >> we have seen heavy thunderstorms moving by. let's take a look at the radar view. a viewer said she had an inch of rain in 17 minutes. it was coming down and lightning striin the chapel hill area and that effected her and is currently making it's way towards durham. you can see the time laps

chapel hill, carl bureau and durham itself and the out flow boundary across wake county and wake forest farther to the east as well and one more pan to the south harnett county outside of the andrew area and lillington and dunn seeing showers. what's going on. amy showed this to you yesterday. there was a frontal boundary that stalled a deep flow of moisture coming from the interacting with that front showers and thunderstorms develop along it and like yesterday some of these storms are slow movers dumping a lot of rain in a short period of time so the localized flooding through the evening won't last all that long. high pressure will build in the coming days and fewer storms around and will show you in the forecast coming up in a few minutes. >> mike thank you. five gun men wearing

they were taken on a main road near the american university of afghanistan. they are believed to be employees of the uner three other foreigners were all released. an australian woman was abducted in april. her where abouts are unknown. police investigating what motivated a man in japan to carry out an attack with a cocktail. 15 people ahurt and others injured. the attack was tokyo a man apparently threw a cocktail like device at festival goers on the street. they found the man hanged this morning. no word if it was a suicide. johnny small has been in prison for two thirds of his life for a murder he did not commit. this caught the eye of christine the lawyer known for helping those wrongly convicted.

courtroom today after the key witness of the original trial came forward and said he lied. now small took the stand on his own behalf this morning. he's now 43 years old. he was 15 when he went to prison and has always maintained his innocence. he was convicted of killing pam dryer who owned a tropical fish store in 1998. he didn't testify at the original trial. his family was in court. also the victim's court. the man who is recanting now there's a witness who came by the name of david bowlinger. he at the time said that small did this then he recanted and said an investigator threatened him with the death penalty and that was a secret he held for 24 years and he finally came forward about three years ago to the north carolina center of actual innocence to chris who

are wrongly convicted. at the end of this week the judge could decide to set him free, grant a new trial or up hold the conviction. >> amanda lamb thank you. a lion is in confinement after it attacked a 20-year-old woman hospitalized with back and lower body injuries. another zoo keeper was able to keep the female lion away from the victim. she was bitten in the before another employee could help. the second worker drove it away with a high pressure water hose. the woman's injuries are serious but not threatening. an account manager for google was in prince ton visiting her mom and went jogging alone on a wooded road yesterday afternoon. her family reported her missing. later last night a police canine found her body about a half mile from her mother's

the homicide was random and asking for people to report suspicious activity in the area. gay marriage was the hearing this morning. a judge heard a motion to refuse to officiate same sex marriages. three couples claim tax dollars are being spent on a discriminatory law allowing the magistrates to opt out. today they said they must follow the law but attorneys plaintiffs must suffered direct harm. the judge didn't make a final ruling today. taking a medical leave of absence she is fighting cancer and taking leave effective immediately to focus on her treatment. the school will serve as acting chancellor while she is gone. >> congress man gk butter field

combat the blaze. officials say it's 5% contained. residents to evacuate the area and no rain in the forecast. boy they could use it desperately. let's take a look at our forecast in the four panel display the radar view immediately see the lightning occurring across wake and durham counties. we are going to get really close on this and one step farther in around morrisville and cary and rdu cloud to ground heavy rainfall. a flood advisory has been issued for this area into the east until 5:45 because this storm will likely make it's way between raleigh and millbrook and the outer loop and the potential is for one to three inches of rain. since we had so much rain yesterday and these are slow movers they had the potential to create localized flooding and this was right along i-40. aviation parkway, davis drive,

rainfall. farther to the east a decent out flow boundary. johnston county and wilson county this is rain cooled air that has come out of the thunderstorms and showers acting like a cold front so more showers develop along the out flow boundary into the latter part of the afternoon and early evening hours. more activity through harnett county southern johnston county and wayne county building to the north and the thinking is i bet this is likely going to happen as this moves up to the north and runs we are going see a big blow up of showers and storms across johnston county and wake county flooding taking place with that. the big picture satellite and radar view going wide and put the jet stream on the map. trough of low pressure across parts of the plains but the big story is the southeast low pressure in the upper atmosphere. off shore we have a weak area of high pressure and a disturbance that the weather

becoming something. over the weekend it was 20% but the chance has dropped and concern maybe that could develop into something tropical. doesn't seem like that's the case but we'll watch it in the coming days. the ridge of high pressure is a feature where the air suppresses as it sinks. the air dry out and warms up so eventually the ridge will go to the west and suppress thunderstorm activity through the week and the low will rainfall throughout the southeast across alabama, mississippi, georgia, louisiana and panhandle of florida. greater than five inches of rain across the gulf coast. farther inland lesser amounts and around here an inch of rain over the next five days and that could easily come this afternoon. our forecast this evening overnight and tomorrow morning filled with clouds. this evening showers and thunderstorms overnight dry and tomorrow morning dry. during the afternoon tomorrow i
