joins us from the wake county justice center where the criminal case is pending. >> reporter: this is very emotional today. the mother of the victim in this case, simone butler thomas, talked about her grief. it is something any parent could relate to. she talked about take a picture of her son before he left for the party saturday night. a few hour later, he was dead and now she is preparing to bury him. 20-year-old cure an th called curry by friend and family. his mom said he didn't dress like a thug or hoodlum. he didn't own a gun. he had a high school diploma and a job. he was leave a party early sunday morning when he was shot by a shotgun on single leaf lane. now, police have charged chad copley. they say he called 911 to complain about commotion in the street and fired that shotgun

the fatal shooting happened around 1:00 this afternoon. >> reporter: a lot of attention is being paid to a taxicab that is sitting right in front of the hotel. you can see it there with the doors open. police and investigators have been going through that car for several hours now here at the la quinta inn on west park drive. the hoe it would sits right off of highway 55 just one exit away from south point mall. the hotel guest scene told me he was sitting in his car when the shooting happened. he didn't see it occur but he did witness two men running from the scene. a canine was also on the scene walking around the area. police are not releasing much information about what happened. they say they will provide an update to us sometime before 5:00. we will make sure to bring you the latest information as soon

by. it won't be that big of rainfall. went del look like it is getting a little shower. zebulon as well. all this activity is moving up towards the north. let's take a look at the big picture. we have a ridge of high pressure that was extending farther west yesterday and it is now a little bit farther to the east encompassing north carolina. we've talked about this. not many showers can develop under a we see the big batch of rain here along the gulf coast. in the coming days, folks across the deep south, the mid- mississippi valley, the ohio valley will see a good deal of rain. here, not so much because of the presence of our ridge. you can see all the heavy rain. there are flooding conditions, flash flood watches ongoing across parts of louisiana, lower mississippi, panhandle of florida and also southern alabama. in the coming days, this moisture will get drawn up to the north as a cold front.

pilot project this fall along parts of hillsborough industry using the charlotte-based passport parking app. parking administrator gordon nash said it is about more than just convenience. the outdoor payment stations are not perfect in the rain. >> you can imagine whenever anything gets wet inside, it will cause malfunctions. >> reporter: like stuck coins and credit card readers that won't work. dash says you can load the app with money and pay for your parking without ever fiddling with credit cards. if the test city could add more downtown parking lots to an app-based parking service. >> i can do that versus jumping out of the car, going to the machine. i could just pay for it right then and there. the pilot program begins in october along part of hillsborough street near nc state. dash says many city council members want a one-stop app for all kinds of payments to the city including transit fares. the auction for the roanoke
