hour with that. a small pedestrian bridge in raleigh collapse this morning, sky 5 flew over the scene along capital boulevard near crabtree boulevard. it happened at 10:00 near the greyhound bus terminal. ems crews told wral the bridge was blocked off, and not in use, but they were checking to make sure no one was under the rubble. >> so, it's a step-by-step process to search the area without putting the responders and harm's way or causing further collapse which could more severely injure anybo i they are under there. >> rescuers don't believe anyone is under there but they want to make sure the bridge is privately owned. raleigh police officers investigating a wreck that happened during morning rush- hour. brian shrader had this story, the ramp to us-1 south bound from i-40 was closed for a while, due to an overturned tractor-trailer. that truck spilled it tar on a section of the roadway. wreck was reported shortly before 5:45 this morning and it took several hours for crews to right the truck and clean up

wake county school board. the election for the board is in november and is going to be under a new map drawn by state lawmakers with seven districts and two super districts, a and b. a federal appeals court ruled the map unconstitutional under a ruling tuesday. the county must use the nine district map drawn into thousand 11 with the a and b districts no longer in existence, candidates have until next wednesday to file. zebulun police need your help to find a missing 15-year- old girl. kalaya altman was last seen in zebulun july 31 of this year, she is five feet, 4 inches tall, weighs 135 pounds, she may still be in the local area, or perhaps she may have traveled to raleigh. call police if you think you have seen her. and, raleigh police say a woman is in the hospital with serious injuries after she was stabbed overnight. this happened in the area of the days inn on glenwood avenue. police say the woman had multiple stab wounds. so far, no arrests, but police do not believe this was a random attack.

a random shooting in johnston county that happened at 7:30 last night near clayton on weyman way. a man was shot and taken to wake med in serious condition, deputies tell us the shooting was a result of a family dispute, they say they have one person in custody but have not released that person's name or name of the victim. 22 passengers and two crewmembers were treated for injuri unexpected landing. flight 429 traveling from boston to sacramento encountered bad weather and was diverted to rapid city, south dakota. one passenger said it felt like a giant hand hit the plane. passengers were put on a different plane and continued on to california. search crews have recovered the black box from the freighter that sink in the bahamas during hurricane joaquin. searchers found the data

a 62-year-old mother is charged in the death of her 13- day-old daughter. an unusual story, police say kathleen steele spent nearly 40 minutes inside of a cell phone repair shop. officers say she left her children, a 6-year-old, 3-year- old and infant daughter outside in the van. investigators say the 6-year- old told them he took the baby out of the car seat and flipped her multiple times and dropped her on the floor because she

newscast, we were talking about the potential. we have more of those now than we did this time yesterday. let's take a look, mostly south and east of the triangle, and we are looping this of course starting about an hour or so ago. and, we are going to go ahead and zoom in across the area, not a whole lot of this happening across the triangle, but we will start here, and you can see, these are false echoes. just some ground cover. you have to travel farther south to see what's happening. we will zoom in because, they are tiny. there being handicapped by this high-pressure system sitting just above us, really putting a lid or cap on the atmosphere, will not allow these storms to grow. in order to get a stronger thunderstorm, it has to tower up. you have seen those towering cumulus clouds. we got a cap on that today, they will not get too tall, but, we're certainly seeing a lot of cumulus out there, and some of these are producing tiny shards and may not ever do

we have seen a couple in the last hour in hoke county and parts of harnett county. heading to the nortast, we have seen some sheridan seven berg, roseboro, clinton, newton grove, that's starting to puzzle out a bit. we saw a little show in goldsboro, that is coming off toward lagrange. there's a little bit more than there was this time yesterday. here's a look at the fayetteville sky cam, see nothing falling in fayetteville but what we have is likely to be tiny little showers that don't last for very long but help to cool things down a little bit. right now, 89 at the airport, we could use one of those shows to cool things down. are dewpoint is way up at 74, i stepped out a while ago, and it feels oppressively muggy out there, 87 in southern pines, 89

dewpoints are in the mid-to upper 70s, even 80 in clinton. that is as high as it ever gets. the heat index is really high right now especially compared to the temperature. 100 in irwin and clinton, feels like 104 in goldsboro and 100 and rocky mount. these are temperatures in the upper 80s to near 90 degrees. it is just so, so soupy, and the reason for that is this area of high pressure, pressure systems have winds that rotate clockwise, pushing all this tropical moisture into north carolina, and that's happening at the lower levels while in the mid-to upper levels, we have sinking air. so, very hot and sticky but we don't have much of a chance to have these storms develop to cool things down. a little seabreeze developing, tiny shards, i take this all the way out to 7:00 so you see what i'm saying. not going to have widespread thunderstorms producing heavy rain and cooling things out but even those little tiny ones that will pop up through the

here's tomorrow lunchtime, since tori, scattered thunderstorms start to develop, we're starting to see a change in our weather pattern over the weekend versus what we are seeing now so we are still dealing with that bermuda high- pressure system that will pretty much put a lid on our showers and thunderstorms. the flipside to that is there are a lot of outdoor bins this evening, saturday and sunday. he won't be dodging the showers much, if you see some rain it's likely to be pretty quick. temperatures are going to be warm, the durham bulls play tonight, tomorrow and sunday. tonight at 7:00, 88, and by 9:00, 83. we will see conditions a little bit, especially past sunset. pretty hot over the weekend, temperatures in the mid-90s and before we see these tiny showers develop, that heat index over the weekend is going to's climate easily to 100 to 104. heat will be the big issue over the weekend but still, some of those tiny showers, if you're lucky enough to see one, it might cool you down a little bit. >> good to know, thanks so much. it steals some of your most

another historic night for michael phelps, he earned his 22nd gold-medal in the final of the men's 200 meter individual. another swimmer from team usa also making history, simone emanuel became the first african-american woman to ever win individual swimming gold medals, we are taking a live look at the rio. back to manual, she tied with canada and it was a great night to really be a simone, because gymnast simone biles also won gold in the women's individual all-around. let's look at the overall olympic medal count. the u.s. remains in the lead, go team usa, with 38 including

wral's arielle clay is live in durham with how police say this all unfolded. >> reporter: those three suspects, two of those three suspects were in court this morning here at the durham jail. 17-year-old zyon mcneil, who is charged with murder in the case, received no bond this morning from a judge. 21-year-old trayvion lyons received a $1 million bond and is charg the fact. that first suspect as you said is only 15 years old and did not appear. police say the three men pulled off several crimes yesterday that ended with the death of 46- year-old ameer suliman. police say is charged with the robbery of a man on whispering oaks lane, two of the suspects stole the man's phone and used it to call the victim's cab. investigators say ameer suliman picked them up and was eventually shot. he was at the la quinta inn off of highway 55 for help and would later die at the hospital. today, his coworkers at durham

geraldo laredo child development center. this is not a day care center, it is a child development center. dave got specially trained staff which will take care of kids while the soldiers take care of being physically fit. staff sergeant edward laredo's wife and children build the dedication plaque that will be placed on the childhood development center that bears his name. he was posthumously awarded the bronze star after he was killed by a roadside bomb in 2010 while serving in afghanistan. >> it is just an exciting day not only for my family but for fort bragg to have a facility like this that families have in asking for, for a very long time. >> reporter: the center will be a place soldiers can drop off children while they work out at some recreation centers on post. the family says the center is who sergeant laredo was. >> fitness and family were his

really, really nicely together. >> reporter: the center can serve 30 to 40 children at a time. fort bragg wanted to build it five years ago but it was almost cut from the budget. the laredo childhood development center is one of only three facilities like this in the country. the family says it is the ultimate way to remember their fallen hero. >> although we lost him, i know that he is looking down from heaven smiling because his name is on a facility that is going the children of fort bragg. and, i just know that he is proud. >> i tell you, the center is open for business. but, it was closed today because of the dedication. the kids will be back in tomorrow, i'm going to be building this. >> great project, thank you very much. a second and final major

we are continuing a month of great brian shrader and the ag fund's lisa prince our thinking italian in this week's good things. >> crispy tomatoes that we did with marinara, they are good. trust me, wait until the end. >> reporter: salt, peppers, and freshly sliced north carolina tomatoes. then mix salt and pepper in a plate, beaten two eggs in a

lemon zest, breadcrumbs, italian powder, parmesan and cream cheese. >> it's like making chicken parmesan with tomatoes. >> unless impressed now. >> oh, i'm sorry. >> reporter: dredge the tomato slices in flour, then the egg wash, and into the breadcrumb mixture. now we head over to the stove and fry them for a couple of minutes on each side until they are golden brown. when they are drained, put them on a parchment paper lined baking sheet. >> and we are not because there is some on that table. put two slices on each tomato. >> reporter: bake them for a few minutes at 400 degrees until the cheese melts. drizzle them with a little bit of balsamic vinegar and at a basal leave, and serve them with marinara sauce for dipping. >> oh, my gosh. so good. that is delicious. >> one of the best ways to eat

the biggest show of the season will not be seen in the movie theaters, instead in the skies. the annual perseid meteor shower was visible overnight in skies across the northern hemisphere. these images show meteors streaking across the star bejeweled sky in west virginia. the celestial event is known to create some of the biggest shooting stars around. >> very cool. unfortunately, we were not able to see any of those, the wral team anyway. we talked about that this a chance to see it. >> i have seen it a long time ago. it is really hard around here, you have to get far out of the city to get away from the lights to see it. but if you have the opportunity, especially on a weekend. it's worth it. it is definitely spectacular. and if you happen to find yourself out in a dark place over the weekend, look up because you may still see some. it was peaking last night, but,

this is harnett county and its johnston county. the showers move further northward and they just wither. and, we are going to see plenty of that. but as we get into the latter part of the afternoon, it is possible that a few of these will approach wake county. certainly if you are in butner, lewisburg and virginia line, you don't have much of a chance of seeing these, mostly this is down south. fayetteville, everything is quiet right now but we had a cloud cover and tiny shower right ther even the ones we saw in sampson county are beginning to die down a little bit. but we are not finished with this by any means, we continue to have tiny showers popping up, moving northward and hopefully cooling off no matter where you are. we kickoff radar at 8:45 this morning. of course, we had a couple of showers popping up down south. we got to just before lunch time and they were more numerous. they started to fizzle in the
