after 20 years in washington, we're learning lots about richard burr. first, he opposed a bill prohibiting insider trading by members of congress. now we learn burr had over $100,000 in oil and gas stocks while he backed legislation giving tax credits benefitting gas companies. and oil and gas companies donated over half a million dollars to burr's campaigns. no wonder richard burr's wealth has increased over 500% since he's been in congress.

on monday - chandler kania pleaded guilty to death by motor vehicle. but he will still face trial for second murder. and with a second degree murder charge - there needs to be malice. kania could get up to 60 years in prison, if convicted of all charges. big news from the raleigh diocese on tuesday. bishop michael burbidge is leaving raleigh to become the new bishop of arlington, virginia. the announcement was made during a news conference in virginia. the bishop got emotional as h bishop michael burbidge: "these past 10 years have been a source of great joy and i will treasure the memories and i will be forever grateful for the support, love and gooness extended to me by all in the diocese. they have been and will remain a special gift in my life." burbidge will replace the retiring bishop in arlington, but he will continue

diocese until his installation ceremony in december. it could be months or even a year before a new raleigh bishop is named. more fallout from house bill 2... the james beard foundation announced it will not be coming to raleigh in january. the committee stated, the law's provisions are contrary to the values of the foundation - which is known for its prestigious awards for chefs and restaurants across the country. a 2-thousand dollar reward is being offered for information in the murders of two nc a- 21-year-old ahmad campbell and 19- year-old alisia dieudonne were shot when someone opened fire during an off-campus party last weekend. investigators want to talk with anyone who was at that party. a suspect has not been identified. police say the two students were innocent bystanders. most of friday was spent preparing for hurricane matthew. fema set up a staging area for relief supplies at fort bragg. tractors trailers and flatbed trucks brought power generators... water... and

airfield on post... until it was time to ship them to areas that need them. several flights out of rdu were also cancelled. two of them, headed to orlando, one going to miami. returning flights from those cities were canceled as well. hotels in asheville had an influx of people heading for higher ground. some of them ran out of rooms. in situations like this, the rival businesses work together-- to give the guests a place to stay. a lot of people planned to stay in the area - of course the big story this week...was hurricane matthew... in a news conference earlier today-- governor mccrory warned that while the skies may be sunny today, this is still a dangerous situation. i can not stress enough to both the state audience and the national audience that hurricane matthew is off the map, but it's still with us. and it's still deadly. and we're taking it very seriously." the governor also said it could be another week before anything gets significantly better. he said the top goal for his

dramatically in wilson. well known restaurant bills bbq became it's very own island in the midst of hurricane matthew floodwaters. in raleigh, water covered atlantic avenue at hodge road. cars parked haphazardly in the street which was under water. despite the obvious flooding, someone still tried to drive through it. another danger from flooding, sinkholes. this one opened up in the median of i-40 in westbound lanes. there were hundreds of water rescues across the area. this was in pinetops. with water surrounding his home, this man was rescued from his roof. a swift water rescue team came to the aid of this woman who was stranded on the top of her car in zebulon. she attempted to drive across a road flooded by the little river. and wind damage in wayne county. the roofs of these chicken houses were peeled back in the gusts from hurricane

crabtree valley mall returned to normal business hours today after significant flooding in the parking lot caused the mall to close. most of the water is gone, but it left a big mess. the cleanup crew used fire hoses and shovels to get rid of the dirt that washed in with the rain. you can see a clear water line on the walls of the parking deck that shows you how high the water was, at one point. the clean-up took several hours. hurricane matthew is affecting several parts highways. most of them are on i-95. starting from the south-- the interstate is closed between exits 17 and 22 in robeson county. in cumberland county-- lanes are closed between exits 40 and 55. farther north toward harnett and johnston counties-- the interstate is closed between exits 77 and 87. i-40 is also affected in johnston county. right now-- the highway is closed between highway 96 and highway 55. some counties in our viewing area are under a curfew because of the current

they hope to be back soon. a lot of places in the southern and eastern north carolina are just starting to dry out, after serious flooding last month. with matthew headed this way, fayetteville stepped in and helped the homeless living in tents along the banks of the cape fear river. richard monroe has lived in fayetteville all his life. in fact... he was in first grade in 1954 when hurricane hazel came roaring through. "i was 8-years-old when hazel came. and the water got higher than i've seen it any time in the last 50- years." monroe has lived in this homeless encampm for about six months. he was here during last week's torrential rain storm. "long as the river does rise too high... too fast... we can handle it." not far from the encampment... the salvation army is providing it's love lunch for the less fortunate. christian delatorre is lucky. he has a bed in the salvation army shelter. he was in last week's rain... but

"that's the best thing i can do. because i don't want to put myself in a situation to where i'm a get dragged by a current or anything like that." the salvation army is working with operation inasmuch to provide shelter... food and essentials to help the homeless weather the storm. they plan to fly the white flag to encourage the homeless to come in out of the storm. "they have their shelter open. once their shelter is full... they'll then move folks... as an overflow... over to their gymnasium. when they hit 30 people there they'll give us a call. we're set up and ready to operate and be their backu." matthew did more than just damage homes and businesses. it ruined a couple's wedding plans. 14:36:32 "and now it's like, all right, let's do it. we've got a place, and let's make it happen." next on rewind, a young couple spent more than a year planning to have their wedding in savannah, georgia -- before the hurricane moved their wedding to

"everything was so structured where the groomsmen needed this time, the photographer comes at this time, girls are getting their hair done. it's just so strict. now it's like go with the flow." at home in boca raton, florida, they packed their car and headed north, stopping in savannah to pick up all the food and flowers they could t the wedding venue. it was non-refundable, storm or no. "i mean, it's not ideal, but it's certainly tested our character, i think, above all, for sure." ry d-j. muriel summers, the principal at a-b combs magnet elementary, was named principal of the year. she has been the principal at combs for nearly 20 years. the school district also honored the assistant principal of the year. the recipient is mary taylor of brooks celebration was held at the angus barn restaurant. a first of its kind event at the white house this week was about inspiring the next generation of leaders and business people-- including a college student from the triangle! south by south-lawn brought together experts in technology, film, music and more. the event is a take-off of the successful south by southwest festival held every year in austin, texas. we talked to one of several local college students - who attended the event. north carolina central senior, kelli johnson,
