building around the clayton by pass, those travel times coming down a little bit to 13 minutes between 42 and 440. report of a accident with injuries on old we haver trail on voice drive. not a lot of big delays showing up ot there. airport tweeting they're expecting more than 35,000 passengers today. they are advising you to arrive at least two hours early. we'll take a look at airport parking options minute. we're learning more about an apartment fire. >> a desperate rescue at the home at tapers drive near new hope road and lewisburg road. we have brand new information with mikaya thurmond. >> reporter: i spoke with the battlion she have.

the hospital. we're seeing an active scene. i'm going to step out of the way so you can see a live look. raleigh police officers and firefighters going into the upstairs apartment where the fire happened. right now they are investigating, checking for additional hot spots. that battlion chief told me they were able to get the fire under control in less than 20 minutes and they're starting to disperse those crews. as for the other residents living in this apartment complex, he tells me that they are able to stay inside of their to keep that fire that happened to a minimum, just that one apartment impacted. we're going to continue to work to learn the condition of that victim that was taken to the hospital and hopefully have an update for you coming up at 8 a.m. bill, lena. >> mikaya thurmond on the scene of an apartment fire in raleigh, thank you. the state bureau of investigation is looking into a deadly shooting involves a durham police officer.

to his body. no names have been released. also in durham, a homicide investigation is now underway after a man was found shot to death there. police say javan burk's body was found on monday. anyone with information about the shooting should call durham police. we head into the holiday weekend with a still undecided governor's race. governor pat mccrory has requested a recall officially. >> getting increasingly frustrated. the naacp will hold a news conference about the election. we have more. >> reporter: that news conference will start at 10 a.m. durham. william barber will actress what he calls mounting hits of ramp antd voter fraud. the trailing candidate is

than 10,000 votes. roy cooper led by 6,600 votes. yesterday the conservative civitas group filed a lawsuit. they challenged same day voters because they don't face the same address check. the suit was attempt to disenfranchise voters. a moving truck and boxes were parked outside the executive mansion. demonstrators say it is time for governor mccrory to concede the election. most counties have yet to complete their accounts. the recount won't happen until they finish the tallies. they wanted to make sure they didn't miss

three north carolina couples asked an appeals court to revive their challenge. the appeal filed monday says a federal district court erred. the lower court ruled that two gay couples and an inter-racial couple lacked standing to sue. a magistrate who has a religious objection can refuse to perform same sex marriages based on the law that took effect in 2015. transition of power in washington, d.c. continues. >> up next, a look at who is in the running to become a part of the president elect administration. mandatory evacuation remain

. donald trump is in florida today to celebrate thanksgiving with his family. and this morning we're hearing the first report from a sitdown interview with the new york times editorial board one of them involving south carolina governor nikki haley. we have this report on the interview. >> very happy to be invited. >> reporter: nbc news has learned south carolina governor nikki hale lei accepted the offer as ambassador to the united nation the. she was highly critical of trump during the campaign. mitt romney is the front runner for secretary of state. and dr. ben carson is being considered as the secretary of housing and urban development.

>> reporter: after a lengthy interview with the editorial board, donald trump hints it's time to make peace with his former rival saying in part hillary clinton suffered greatly in many ways and he needs to move on from her investigation. >> look, there's tradition in american politics that after you win an election you sort of put things behind you. >> reporter: except for criticism of the trump foundation which reported in a new filing it violated irs rules. it may have to more taxes. in the meantime, the president elect focused on filling his cabinet. >> these have been inspiring meetings for him because not everybody will end up in the cabinet or government and not all of them are seeking that. a group of computer scientists is urging hillary clinton's campaign to ask for a recount in three key

the mid- 20s so some patchy frost. 25 in roxboro, 29 in chapel hill, 27 in smithfield, 23 in sanford and then 32 in fayetteville. you can see some cloud cover starting to move in to the mountains and now cruising through charlotte and into the triad. the sunshine will be moving out, the clouds moving in as we head into the day today. here is a look at satellite and the upper midwest, chicago should just see rain today, though, with this system if you're going to be traveling. if you're flying anywhere, doesn't matter where you're flying, if there's bad weather in one spot we have the trickle down effect with flight delays but things are looking good for most of our major hubs. by the time the rain gets here most of it

flowing freely. we have on wake forest road at creekside drive inside the beltline. minor accidents in neighborhoods, not going to slow you down at all. traffic is moving along well on major routes along the triangle. you can see the 440 looks good, wade avenue is clear, and 540 westbound looking fine from capitol all the way out to i-40 and the airport. trips taking 13 minutes. for a lot of people you go to the airport on hol been there since rdu changed their parking options. wanted to gets you a heads up about what those are now. there are two options that are within walking distance called premier and central. there are economy options, those are park and ride lots, get on a bus and head to the terminals back and forth. you can go to the rdu website to check

airport delay information from the faa, so far in the northeast no trouble as we head out to the midwest. looking good out of chicago and detroit. the southeast, your major airports, no ground delays right now. back to you. 1.4 million americans will be traveling 50 miles or more from home this thanksgiving according to experts and the airports and road will be busy. aaa says that up nearly 2% from last year and they attribute the boost to driving remains the most popular mode the travel. last year there were 22 deaths on north carolina highways during the thanksgiving period. the d.o.t. is suspending most road construction on major routes through sunday to help keep the traffic moving. hundreds of people will be getting much needed help ahead of thanksgiving day. the opportunity industrialization center of wilson is handing out free food this morning. they distribute food every

screenings for diabetes and high blood pressure and offer information on weight control and heart disease. flu shots will also be available. late in the hurricane season, hurricane otto is sweeping across the caribbean heading for a possible land fall in kosta reekcosta rica. governor mccrory will give an update on t western part of our state. this comes as an arson investigation is underway over two wildfires in blowing rock. it appears the fires were set in two locations. these pictures show what's being called the horton wildfire which could burn a thousand acres before crews have it contained. mandatory evacuations are underway in that area. the american red cross has opened a shelter for people who had to leave their homes. the situation in aleppo, syria, is

including 18 children. the city's hospitals were devastated and now are inoperaable. the u.n. believes 250,000 and 270,000 people are trapped in the area. and making matters worse aid haven't reached the part of the city held by the rebels since july. the macy's thanksgiving day parade will get added security. 80 sanitation trucks filled with sand will be along the route. they'll create an imposing physical barrier against any terrorist attack like that in france. the nypd says there's no confirmation after credible theft. you can watch the macy's thanksgiving day parade here on wral tomorrow morning starting at 9:00. pilots who fly cargo for amazon are on strike calling into question

our weather today is going to be nice. here's elizabeth with more. >> chilly this morning, temperatures in the 20s in many spots but we have mainly clear skies and we'll see clouds thickening up in the afternoon. the showers for tomorrow morning will move out by lunchtime. rdu, can you see a few high thin clouds now but overcast conditions by this afternoon. 25 in roxboro, 28 and 28 in fayetteville. we warm to 58 today with increasing clouds, a slight chance after shower early thursday, and then mild at 65. and friday, nearly 70 degrees. 7:27 now. and it's quiet on the roads. you can tell it's the day before thanksgiving. take a look at i-40 out at the clayton bypass where we saw delays earlier but now that westbound traffic is moving right along. trip is taking 9 minutes from 42 out to 440. as we check in around the rest of the

a community in durham is looking for answers this morning in an officer involved shooting. an african american man in his 20s was shot and killed. >> multiple witnesses are saying that the officer who fired shots was also black. the officer went to the hospital with a leg injury, not caused by a gunshot. it happened at 12:30 yesterday afternoon. investigators and neighbors spent hours there trying to gather all the >> we're live at the durham police department with more on what happened and what we are still waiting to learn. emmy victor. >> reporter: identities are what we're waiting to learn at this point. we need the names of the four people involved, this includes the man that was shot and killed. the officer that fired and the two other officers that were also at the scene. now according to the durham police department, they say that the

unmarked vehicle near mcdougald terrace. they were having a conversation and the man made a sudden movement toward his waistband. the officers engaged in a struggle with the man. officer say they heard a gunshot and one officer fired his weapon killing the man. it remains unclear how many shots were fired. a gun, however, was later found at the scene. the police department has already said that gun does not belong to them. all three have been placed on administrative assignment. the state bureau is the one handling the case. >> thank you for the update. this shooting happened less than 24 hours after the durham city council voted to fund body cameras for the police department. durham's police chief says those body cameras will roll out as early as january. the plan is to give the first cameras to

deadly shooting happened. the chief thinks body cameras will be helpful in cases like this one. we're working to find out what led to an officer involved shooting in lumberton, a shooting that ended with one person in the hospital. this happened at 6 last night at the dollar general on 401 and martin luther king boulevard. no officers were hurt. in michigan, a wayne state university police officer is recovering after he was shot in the head investigators say the officer was off campus investigating reports of a car break-in. he was shot after he stopped a man on a bicycle. police are now questioning a possible suspect. for many of us, getting ready for winter means pulling out your coat from the closet but some children don't have luxury. you can change that.

. the fayetteville city council will hear from the public regarding plans to build a $33 million minor league baseball stadium. there will be a special meeting next monday to conduct a public hearing on the plan. they signed an agreement in august to bring a minor league team to the city. it would be located near the prince charles hotel.

at 8:00. santa claus was at the airport popping his head out of a c-130. the toys for tots foundation delivered precious cargo, thousands of toys and books for children in east and north carolina whose were affected by hurricane matthew. >> some of them are still living in shelters. the fact that they may be getting toys and gifts coming that probably would not have happened if it weren't for for tots foundation or the salvation army, i'm quite sure it will be brighter than morning. >> volunteers and workers will sort out the shipments and deliver the gifts to families in seven counties. last year toys for tots delivered 18 million toys to kids across the country. >> ditch the sleigh and got in a c-130. the highest honor. >> the president's remarks as michael jordan receives the medal of

today because it's a zoo and then i remembered i forget something. still have to go to the grocery store today. driving shall heading to the grocery store, it's going to be busy. beautiful in roxboro, high thin cloud cover which will increase through the day. 29 degrees at the airport where the wind is calm and our dewpoint is 25. that's noticeably higher than yesterday. you're not going to necessarily notice it except for the fact there was some patchy frost this morning. frost on the grass outside the tv studios, frost on some of the cars this morning. that's the first time that i can remember seeing that, at least here downtown. temperatures have been cold enough for it a number of times, we've passed our first freeze and frost around the triangle but i don't remember seeing frost until this morning.

mainly in the 20s. 30s in irwin, and 23 in sanford. here come some clouds ahead of our cold front back to our west. we have a warm front stretched ahead of it. the warm front slips by us early tomorrow and that will bring us a slight chance of showers and a nice mild temperature for tomorrow and friday. then this slow moving front moves on through and that's going to help to bring us cooler temperatures by saturday and sunday. but in general it looks nice. if you're jumping on a plan to head out, it looks like that most of our major hubs are looking good. even if you're not flying to one of those, it's a good thing because, you know, if you have snow up here in new york, and maybe your plane is going to denver, maybe that plan had to come here first and there's that trickle down effect of airport delays, and last time bryan was showing the airport delays, everything was looking pretty good. he'll show us that again coming up in a lit by. dry up and down the east coast,

snow up in minneapolis, denver dry. snow in the rockies and the sierra. and then rain from seattle all the way down to san fransisco. so, not a bad travel forecast, it could be worse. we see increasing clouds today, especially after lunchtime. cloudy skies tonight and warmer temperatures. in the mid-40s instead of the mid- 20s, big jump in our temperature tomorrow morning. at 5:00, a little bit of light patchy rain. 7 a.m., after that, it moves shouldn't see any more rain pass mid to late morning and the afternoon skies will be broken. partly to mostly cloudy skies. and friday we may hang on to cloud cover, too. 58 degrees for today. 65 tomorrow. we start at 44 so it's going to be a much warmer start. by lunchtime the rain should be out of here with a temperature of 59 and by 5
