>> and we are following news out of fairfax county. the break happened at the intersection of van doern and vine stream, not far from the van dorn metro stop. it's not clear how many homes have been affected. and for more now on how this is affecting traffic, let's get to jerry edwards. >> yeah, this is quite the mess. again, these pictures were taken earlier this morning. police closed off the stretch of van dorn streetear vine street. northbound and southbound closed off. and there is a question about the integrity of the roadway. looks like some of the roadway may have washed away during the water main break. and because of the closure of van dorn street, no exit and it's forcing people to use alternate routes. and people are going down to telegraph road or up 395.

this entire area of springfield is jammed up because of the water main break on van doern street. we will keep you updated throughout the broadcast. >> now, to a developing story from national's park. and that's where we are waiting for a news conference to begin about act a's firing of the manager of the nats. and it's set to get under way in about a half hour, and we will try to bring the news conference to you as it happens. he said he learned of the news last night. and he was ithe middle of his third season as the nats's manager, and in an interview, he said "i thank the nationals forgiving me this opportunity and i am sorry that things did not work out as exspegtd. it's normal for the manager to pay the price when the team is

not doing well." it's unclear who will replace acta as manager, but there are reports that the bench cchoa will fill that job.ch it will be his fourth manager's job. it was a crime that shocked d.c. and the nation pap mother accused of killing their four daughters and leaving their bodies. minutes ago a judge rejected a motion to delay her which i will. megan, what happened? >> reporter: right now attorneys for the defense and the prosecution are dealing with a number of different motions. the trial has not started. it will not start until all of the motions are ruled upon by the judge. i should mention the judge has at this point denied defense

motion to postpone the trial. the defenseas wsk fgin aor that delay in the trial so they could do dna testing on skin samples. and they wand a delay so they could go back and do testing. the judge, though, said no to that request. the trial will go forward as soon as they deal with the other motions. and there is a hearing, and they are hearing arguments on a motion to statements that jacks made to police when taken into custody. and we are not in the trial portion, but in dealing with the motions, there have been details regarding the crime and the crime scene that have come out in open court, and things like the discovery of mummified bodies and a knife found next to one of the bodies. at one point jacks's attorney talks about strangulation.

and she showed absolutely no emotion as he did this. now, jacks has been going through her attorneys' files sometimes writing notes and passing them to counsel. it's unclear what will happen today. the judge may have to watch a recording of jacks' statement to police. the statement is several hours long. if he has to do that today before they can proceeproceed, have a long, drawn out motions hearing. back to you, kimberly. >> we knowacks was arguing about the insanity plea, because she did not want that. what the judge's mood? have you been able to take a temperature of that? >> basically, they are dealing with the mechanics of the law and the evidence, and procedural

things, really at this state in the case. they have not yet got to the trial. there has been no discussion at all about the mental state, the mental capacity of bonita jackson. he is dealing basically with the law and trying to sort through the motions and rule on them so they could proceed to the trial portion. >> and prosecutors decided to drop conspiracy charges against two students accused of a school bomb plot. they discovered the blot back in april. two teens were accused of planning to kill their principal by throwing a nail bomb in his office and setting off an explosion. and one will now plead guilty to several other charges including arson which stem from other small fires set at the school. and the other teen has been moved to juvenile court. the battle for u.s. supreme
