crged with c second-degree murder. an investigators have no identified the victim that she stabbed to death. authorities are trying to figure out what led up to the stabbing. and the red line was shut down for most of yesterday. investigators are trying to figure out what led to the crash that killed nine people last month and why the system is still malfunctioning. darcy spencer has the latest. >> reporter: the closure happened after the investigation continues. >> they need to find out what caused the wreck. i don't like being inconvenienced, but i understand it that. >> paul: >> reporter: buses were used to route people around the

closure. and they wer testing to determine when the metro operator might have seen the train stopped on the tracks. and the train began to break 425 feet before the rear end collision. >> i understand why they would want to take the precautions to insure that something like this does not happen again. >> well, this is a big deal, and hopefully they will resolve the problems and we won't see an accident like this for a long time, if ever again. >> reporter: the train's detection system failed, because it should have alerted the operator that there was a train sitting on the tracks and avoid the crash. and they are trying to determine why the circuit failed that day and why it continues to fail now. darcy spencer, "news4 today." >> two light-rail trains

collided last night in san francisco. and 48 people were taken to hospitals, and three with severe injuries. thorities say one train barreled into a stopped train. and it happened on the muni transit line. and the operator of the striking train appeared to be asleep or passed out. earlier this month a worker told a reporter that failures have been affecting the muni system. funeral arrangements have been made for tv news legend walter cronkite. and cronkite died friday night in his manhattan home with his family by his side. he was 92. for nearly two decades cronkite covered the most important stories of the century.

the gambling ring and the officers and three killings. an update now on the developing story out of louden county. police are on the scene of a murder that occurred overnight. and michael flynn joins us with the latest. michael? >> reporter: good morning. police are investigating the death of a young man that attended a party at the corner house you see behind me. he was shot just feet from the house. you can see detectives still on the scene out here. there was a shooting in the street involving the victim that was at the party. detectives were called here for a shooting. and tt's when they found the victim. he was in the backyard of the house. and the spokesperson from the police department is joining me. what are the basics? >> we were called for the report of a shooting. we responded to the scene. and the victim was found in the backyard of the residents suffering from gunshot wounds. he was taken to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead. at this time we do have a

possible suspect in custody and is being interviewed by investigators. >> do you have an i.d. of the victim? >> we are still trying to positively identify the victim at this time and waiting to notify the next of kin. this is a quiet community. and this is our fifth homicide of the year so far. >> okay. thanks a lot for joining us. >> reporter: again, detectives are interviewing a possible suspect in this case. back to you. >> michael flynn in sterling, thank you. police are still looking for a possible victim in a child pornography case. and police charged a 22-year-old man with the abuse of three boys and girls, ages 5, 10 and 12.

describe what happened at the oak ridge apartments. two children, age 5 and 7 were trapped in a smoke-filled apartment, and the kids were home alone. the father came back as neighbors were trying to get inside. and he realized what was happening. >> he was frantic, and he was running saying that's my apartment, that's my apartment, and my kids are in there. and everybody was converging on the apartment trying to get in. >> investigators say the father was cooking ithe kitchen, and for some unknown reason he left the apartment locking the front door behind him. the food started a small fire and smoke filled the apartment. >> generated a tremendous amount of smoke. >> the 5-year-old boy died at an area hospital. his 7-year-old brother is in

comfortable dry weather. 73 locally. cooler towards cincinnati and chicago. and temperatures in the 60s there. we are mostly sunny. offshore, this is the situation. here is what is going to happen over the next couple days. a big area of high pressure will start to build out in the atlantic, and the return flow will start to send a ton of moisture into the mid-atlantic states. with the daytime heating and disturbances coming through the area. we will have thunderstorms at any point throughout the week. today, high pressure, the main player, bringing us a nice afternoon. and then tomorrow, a wave of lower pressure will start to ride up a front that is sitting offshore. as the low gets slocloser, weil see a chance of showers. and then pretty active week. the moisture and the humidity will start to run.

updating our top stories. one person is dead after a shooting early this morning in a sterling neighborhood. and it happened about 3:00 this morning. and investigators believe the victim was leaving a party at a nearby home. the tacoma park metro station will be open today. a stretch of the red line near the station had been shut down nearly all day yesterday as federal investigators tried to reconstruct the crash. they are trying to figure out when the driver of the striking train could first see the stopped train. riders can still expect delays

steve's favorite story of the da a family in wisconsin is cleaning up after the oscar mayer wiener mobile drove into their garage. the driver stepped on the gas instead of the break. and it damaged the garage and the deck above it. nobody was at home, thank goodness, and the driver was not hurt. we can laugh about it now. but, man, that is a big wiener mobile. if that ran into your house, you know that is causing serious damage. >> at least who ever was driving
