22 high school students from our area who travelled to china for an educational trip are under arqu entine in china for swine flu. >> the question is how many of them are infected with swine flu. and we have the latest with tracee. >> reporter: three of the students on this trip are from walter johnson. most of the other ones are from montgomery county, and various schools throughout the area. a couple from the district as well. 22 students in all went on this trip. now, half of them have been hospitalized. some of them are being tested. some have tested positive for swine flu, and others are still waiting for their test results. the other 11 are quarantined in their hotel rooms,nd a parents areer nvous a standing byvo wil. >> 22 students set out for china

to learn more about the culture and language, and now they are getting another lesson in how seriously the china government is treating the true. >> we got it from a boy that was taken to the airport. we think that he is probably -- he probably had it, you know, before we got on the plane. >> students say a member of the group had an elevated temperature on the plane. he later tested positive for swine flu. soon, 10 other students became sick. >> this trip unfortunately was met with the, i guess, worldwide fears of the swine flu, and the chinese government is taking no chances. >> mark cheney's daughter, natalie, seen here a few days ago on the british report now has a favor, and is waiting to find out if she has the swine flu. >> i am not squarcared. they will take care of us.

we have american food and a tv. >> reporter: his daughter is still being isolated, so that doesn't ease the concerns of her dad. >> she does not have contact with her classmates that she has gone over to china with. and she is anxious to find out whether the test results will get her released. >> reporter: how are you feeling physically? >> well, i was feeling pretty bad earlier. now it's become just a cough. but, you know, before i was feverish, and coughing, and sneezing a lot. >> marine now tested negative for swine flu, and is looking forward to being released soon, and looking forward to the story she will tell her classmates when school starts. >> it's almost a little funny. i mean, i will be able to go

home and tell my friends that i had swine flu while i was in china. it's s definitely something wor telling people, and it sounds pretty dramatic. >> reporter: this trip was put together by the university of maryland. the chinese government paid for the entire thing. all the parents had to pay for was basically airfare for the kids to get over there. they are saying it's a great program. the chinese government is working along with the kids to try and extend the trip so that those that have been sick will still have a opportunity to do all the things they had planned to do. they also say that they knew in advance before their kids got on the flight that if they had any kind of favor, this could possibly happen. the chinese government is taking swine flu very seriously because of the population there. with more than a billion people, they cannot have this flew outbreak in their area. so they are working very hard to make sure that they quarantine people that possibly have it to keep it from spreading.

back to you in the studio, joe. >> thank you, tracee. earlier this year, a group from silver springs found themselves in a similar scare. they travelled back in may and were quarantined for a week. the students were there and reunited at the airport, and news4 was there. none of them actually ended up contracting the swine flu. the students at the st. mary's school in medford. these were taken inside the beijing hotel. they were given laptop computers so they could stay in touch with family and friends back home. right now, the watergate hotel is on the auction block right now. kimberly is here with the late-breaking details. kimberly? >> we have a crew inside the

auction now. i am told it's hot and crowded in ere. approximately six bidders, and a lot of media, and watergate residents that want to see it turned into a luxury hotel. we should know about the historic watergate hotel. and while the property may go for a good price in this poor economy, anybody that takes it over will have a lot of work to do. the hotel has been closed since 2007, and is in desperate need of extensive renovation. the owner monument realty planned to renovate the hotel and recently defaulted on the million-dollar bank loan. and interested buyers had to bring a $1 million deposit to the auction. it had to be banked backed. and no personal chance for a chance to own a piece of history and restore it to new glory.

welcome back. president obama is turning up the heat on congress. he is meeting with democrats today all part of the plan for health care reform. but he does have his work cut out for him. republicans are launching new attacks and the poll numbers are slipping. brooke heart reports from capitol hill. >> reporter: now the poll shows

nearly 4 degrees cooler than average this time of year, compared to an average july. and now the 21st of the month, two days for the entire month, two of the 21 days have been warmer than average. a real summer vacation from heat and humidity. outside this morning, 71 degrees was the starting temperature in washington. there were some cool spots out in the western suburbs. now with the sunshine spilling through, most areas in the upper 70s to near 80 degrees. 77 degrees in the fredericksburg area. and it definitely feels like july out there. but when temperatures are not in the 90s, dew points in the 60s, that's not a problem. no rain on the radar at this point in time. at least not around our area. here is a look at doppler over the last hour. and even across the virginia piedmont now, and most is fairly on the dry side.

there are some rain showers leaving the philadelphia area going up to new york city, and if you have flights or trains or you are driving that way, you will go back in the clouds and the showers. and most of the rain is done for now around here, but with the daytime heating we have a 30% of a thundershower coming up or shower coming up this afternoon. and that area of low pressure, as it moves away, we get a stable part of the atmosphere around here. an isolated shower possibility for the afternoon. another line of powerhouse thunderstorms rolling through southern oklahoma, and southern arkansas, and that area of low pressure will make the turn and bring us our next best chance of rain coming up on the day for thursday. so we will keep that in mind here over the next 24 to 36 hours. and clouds givingay to sunshine. just enough heating to maybe

we are learning new details about an attack that killed nine people in indonesia and injured more than 50. take a look at this. according to an indonesian tv station, these are images of the militants suspected in the bombing. the video shows them going through security check points and walking around with their luggage. the attack happened on friday when the explosions ripped through the hotels. nobody claimed responsibility. maryland officials might abandon a plan to eavesdrop on riders. they wanted to use listening devices on buses and trains to record the conversations on passengers and employees. and they wanted to say whether it was violating the law against wire tapping. now she will review if the state will move forward with such a

>> they are being held at a hospital because of fears that some are showing symptoms of the swine flu. tracee? >> reporter: we are here because three of the students who are on the trip attended walter johnson, and the restf them are from various other schools in montgomery county, and a couple from the district. 11 have shown signs of the swine flu, and eight now tested positive, including natalie cheney, who attends national cathedral school where she will be a junior next year. these are pictures tenf natalie a lite while ago. hi hehe latest was among t of the group to test positive. one student had the swine flu and soon other students started to get sick. they have been taken to various

hospitals. and those who are not showing signs are being isolated in their hotels. natalie told news crews is little while ago this. >> i am not really scared. i think they will take good care of us. i spoke with one of my friends in the hospital right now, and they said they have been treated well and received american food, and have a tv. >> it's very scary for us, and it's very scary for natalie who is in the hospital in beijing. it is, by u.s. standards, somewhat crude, and you know, she is all alone and doesn't have much contact, if any, with her classmates that she has gone over to china with. >> reporter: that interview with natalie was done a few days ago. we talked to her dad a few minutes ago, and he wanted to make clear this is her second time of going through the trip, and he approved of the trip. this is paid for by the chinese government.

property again, or try to sell it again, but probably that time not at auction. now the ender is owed $40 million. the watergate auction failed to move. they were the only bid of $25 million. and so ultimately the property went back to pb capital. the watergate hotel became famous. burglars stayed in the hotel prior to the crime. the watergate scandal led to the resignation of president richard nixon. a famous property known by all across the world, and people who never have even been to washington, d.c. are familiar with the watergate complex. again, there was one bid made at the action today. it was a bid of $25 million. it was made by the lender, and the property goes to pb capital, and having talked to the

attorneys, the plan here is to market, and once again, try to sell the watergate hotel. back to you. >> would they sell it before they reopen it as a luxury hotel? any plans to renovate and reopen it? or are they getting rid of it before they do that? >> that question was asked, and the short answer that was given is they would market the property and the try to sell it again. it does not sound like i at this point, that the $25 million being the only bid by the lender, and they are owed $40 million, and they will step back and do some things and then put it on the market in a different way. >> thank you. the heated debate continues on the proposal to bring in a 5,500 seat baseball team. >> before the team, they have to bring the stadium. and the vote is whether or not to bring a ballpark into louden
