krebs. let's look inside the senate judiciary committee chambers. today that committee will vote on president obama's nomination of sotomayor to the supreme court. it's not expected to be an easy day. republicans are digging in their heels in opposition, and they are concerned about her voting record and comments she made in public speeches. one man, lindsay graham, say he will vote for her. and the committee is expected to vote in just a short while. we will continue to follow the latest developments in this story and bring you the latest as ihappens. we are also following breaking news right now. relatives of the virginia tech shooting victims are now asking the state to reopen its investigation of the mass killings at the school. a group that represents many of

manor hall is a complete loss. the facility is known as the knights of columbus hall. and they were grabbling with financial and legal issues, and last night it was destroyed by fire. fire crews are deciding what to do next. it was gutted by an early morning fire. >> it is totally burned down. >> the lodge, a community landmark, as been at the center of legal rangling. the building was recently sold in foreclosure, but the facility of the sale is being challenged in court. kenneth holmes is a member, and he said a new generation recely took the reigns and

planned to turn it around, but the fire put those plans on indefinite hold. >> we were trying to get back in the community and so forth, as the knights of columbus. and it's just a shock. >> reporter: the lodge is often rented out as a venue for events, like a popular go go night. a deputy was seriously injured last april while working security. the utilities had been cut to the building, and sources say there was no electricity or gas. as the fire department wrapped up the investigation this morning, a tow truck could be seen taking two cars from the prr property. according to the fire department, the vehicles were listed as stolen. >> reporter: the damage estimate is $1 million. no word on what caused the fire. back to you in the studio. a trip to the grand canyon

turned tragic for a backpacker. he was killed after embarking on a trip for his 20th birthday. he started o h trip, and no word was heard from him. his body was found and he got lost and ran out of water, and it appears dehydration played a part. the students arrived in china about two weeks ago, and soon two of them were diagnosed with the virus. the entire group was quarantined for about a week before being released. now the group could be quarantined until friday, which means they will miss their flight home. >> authorities arrested seven men accused of planning a series of terror attacks overseas.

investigators say the ring leader is a 39-year-old patrick daniel boyd. he was in pakistan and after began stan from 1989 to 1992 where he attended terrorists training camps. prosecutors say he returned to america and organized a group with international terrorists aspiration. authorities have not said what they were planning, but boyd's sons were among those arrested. and robert gates made a surprise visit to iraq today, and he met with the top u.s. commander as well as nuri al maliki. he says that the security situation has drastically improved since his first visit in 2006. new at midday, a sign that -- prices may be stabilizing. they apparently posted their first monthly increase in tee years. that's the word from the standard and poor price index. it includes data from 20 major

cities. home sales were still below the level compared to 2008. the ceo says he will slash the bank's branches by 10%. bank of america spent the last 20 years expanding from coast-to-coast and now says more customers are using online banking. they have taken $45 billion in bailout money. it acquired country wide last summer. president obama will hold another town hall meeting on the issue today, focusing on his plan could affect senior citizens. brooke heart is following this story. >> reporter: today president

he is accused of beating a 14-year-old to death while he was riding his bike. now a teen from crofton will stay in a facility until he is tried for the murder of another teen. he is charged with beating christopher jones to death back in may. the teen wanted to live with his aunt in delaware until he is tried in septembe r. the teen who is accused. however a judge turned down that request. police are still searching for clues after a body was discovered in a burned out car in downtown bethesda. and inside police discovered a woman's body in the driver's seat. he was identified as a 45-year-old woman of tacoma

as we told a few minutes ago, federal authorities already raided his office in houston, and yesterday an official told the associated press that murray gave jackson the powerful drug the day he died. and we will isore o this story as it becomes available. some incredible video to show you now. security cameras in the kentucky neighborhood captured a house ploding. you can see it at the top of the screen. the cameras was mounted out side a nearby business. the home was for sale and vacant at the time of the explosion. investigators think lightning might have killed a man. authorities have not released the man identity, but say he was staying with family in the area. investigators are trying to confirm it was indeed a lightning strike that killed him.

the co-pilot of the a plane that crashed in buffalo back in february told the captain that she did not want to pay for a hotel room. they released the conversation. first office, rebecca shaw told the pilot she would have called in sick had she been closer to home. all 49 people aboard the plane died in the crash. the official cause still has not been determined. he is a text billias billio and now maybe that's why he is not enjoying his time in prison. he is complaining his prison cell, well, it's too hot. stanford said he does not have air-conditioning and shares his space with up to 10 other inmates. he wants to be moved from a private prison to a federal detention center.
