launches left. winding down. we still have more heat and mumt left. we have august outside today. we lad a hey sooi sky. a few cloud building. we'll get a lot more tomorrow. our high temperature today, we did it. first 90 degree day of august. 90. remember last summer, we did have one streak in july of seven days in a row of 90 or higher. so far this summer in terms of heat waves has been a pussycat, only two days in a row of 90 or higher. so there we are are hazy skies. our temperature now and the dew point has come down a little bit, too, from what it was. so it's not too bad. dew point 62, humidity not too bad. look at the temperatures other parts of the east. buffalo, they may never get to 90. 76. 60s around the lakes. this is where it's really been active. the mid part of the country, memphis right now, it's 92 with a dew point of 76.

mid part of the country, a little ripple in the atmosphere. you can see the cluster of storms that has continued to move through kentucky. look at the other batch there around parts of southern illinois right now. this is moving into tennessee. it's continued to hold together and on the west side, more of these clusters of storms. look at how much rain. this is louisville, kentucky. just today, five inches of rain and most of that came between 9:00 and 10:00 this morning. this is what it looked like. they're still under flood warnings. that's not the way you want to find your car when you go out all because of a torrential rain. three inches in just one hour. as a matter of fact, churchill downs was under water. here's what's going on around the rest of the world. the tropics are beginning to heat up a little bit you now into the pacific. there are two tropical storms and also other storms out in the

western part of the pacific. as a matter of fact, there was a storm that just moved in to china around hong kong with winds of 45 miles an hour. loni. and out in the atlantic, though, not much anything going on. there is a tropical wave way out in the atlantic, but that's about it. other parts of the caribbean, nothing much going on. we're heading for what might be the latest we've had the first named system here in the atlantic. what do you think the latest is? i'll have the answer tomorrow on our wednesday weather quiz. in the mean time, overnight tonight during the day tomorrow, it will be humid. here is a little weak weather front, a little bit indirectly associated with those big, big rains in louisville. and in kentucky and indiana. so i think we'll get some of the leftovers, perhaps an afternoon shower or thundershower as this comes through. and in back of it as we get into thursday, a little bit less humid. there are some of those thunderstorms that might be lingering in to parts of thursday off the coast. but not tonight.

tracy wilkins reports. >> reporter: monday morning, a fire inside the boulevard heights volunteer fire department. there were two firemen staffing the station at the time. the between closest stations were disattached to help and capital heights had no firefighters wking and district heights took eight minutes to get there. the public safety director says the low number of firefighters that night comes from a change in how prince george's is staffing its stations. >> we deployed our resources where they're needed. >> reporter: public safety director said since budget cut, prince george's county is in longer staffing fire stations, it's staffing vehicles. for instance, a fire truck, or an ems truck. the number of firefighters on duty reflects the kind of call that station is expected to respond to. >> we are moving toward staffing apparatus and not stations. the stations never ever help us mitigate anything in prince

the north shore. authority say the shark was feeding on sea turtle. it also swam near some local surfers. the shark didn't attack anyone, but authorities are warping beach goers to obt lookout. there's a new study that concludes the most dangerous sport for high school and college athletes may be cheer leading. researchers from national children's hospital in columbus, ohio looked into sports injuries among young people. theyound that 70% of injuries are caused by six sports. track, basketball, football, volleyball, soccer and gymnastics. but cheer leading was the primary cause of catastrophic injuries such as spinal cord damage. the study also found a 150% jump in the number of students who are injured in physical education classes in the last decade. the searresearchers say lack of super sprigs hand fewer school nurses might be to blame. students are being begin their own cell phones at younger

talk about. a lot of stuff to report. but like you alluded to, the biggest news is that today albert haynesworth was back on the football field. he admits yesterday because he had to rest that knee after having an injection. let me take you back to the field. this is afternoon. about the bigan wasack out there with the team afteraving that injection in his left knee that kept him out of practice yesterday. the defensive tackle says that it was the same type of shot he had gotten with the titans. something he does to feel more comfortable. zorn wanted to reiterate that he's doing fine. he said it was just precautionary. as for more injury news today, the focus wasn't necessarily on defense, but much more on offense. and primarily the offense of line. and this group, this you want, has really been so much more focused on their health. and very prideful of that this off season. after losing two line men, at the end of last year with injuries, they cleblgts differencely pushed the envelope with their off season workout. today it was number 74 right
