allegiance to manson. she was released this morning from a federal prison hospital in texas. we do not know why she was in the medical facility. captain michael scott speicher was finally laid to rest today. the navy pilot was shot down the first night of the gulf war. defense officials announces his remains had been recovered in iraq. today a motorcade carried spiker's casket through jacksonville, florida. thousands of people lining the streets to honor him, there was also a service at the veterans memorial there. governor crist attended and spoke on be half of the floridians when he thanked speicher for his dedication to our country. funeral services held for three members of a pennsylvania family killed in the mid air collision over the hudson river over the weekend. aboard the single engine plane that collided with a helicopter saturday. five italian tourists and the helicopter also died along with their pilot.

nbc news obtain ad video you are looking at there p an italian tourist on a boat in the hudson shot that video. in a separate development in air traffic controller at a nearby airport and his supou superviso been placed on administrative leave. a cargo ship that has been missing for more than twoeeks has been found off the coast of africa. the ship, arctic sea, disappeared after passing through the english channel july 28th. the freighter was carrying a russian crew of 15 sailors and a load of timber. it was located near cape verde off the coast of west africa. no word yet on the condition of the crew. russian naval ships are on their way to that area. >> virginia senator jim webb is in myanmar. webb is chairman of a subcommittee on east asian pacific affairs. his visit is the first in more than a decade by a u.s. official. the trip is getting a lot of coverage on myanmar's state-run

fire t fire started wednesday evening. it has grown to more than six-square miles. so far it only damaged two small structures. no injuries have been reported. the cause is under investigation. may see some rain out there. >> not this time of year. not in california. it has been dry. we have been dry here, too. for the weekend we are going to remain at least reasonable humidity dry. outside and no rain really that we have had. our skies, you can see we are looking south now from our vantage point here and the sky watcher. when the clouds move from left to right that means we have an easterly breeze ask that's where we will be seeing a good part of the weekend. with that also, as you can see, we had morning clouds and maybe a little bit of patchy fog. and then a lot of sunshine during the afternoon. reasonably clean air. our high temperature today, 87 degrees and about our dry period. i went back and the last 50 days, last 50 days, we have only had seven days with tenth of an inch of rain or more. the same time. we are closing in on a deficit

the last 50 days of four inches of rain. we can use rain but not necessarily the weekend. 85 degrees. the dew point, 64. which is a humid but reasonable. there is that easterly wind. here's the reason we have that easterly wind. our temperature is in the 80s and a whole weather front and easterly wind. with that you can see not many spots now into the 90s. where they are in the 90s, way down in brownsville. not only in the 90s but terrible, terrible drought. exceptional drought that continues to give you an idea corpus christi had 37 days in a row of 95 or higher. today corpus christi, texas, heat index now is 102. 37 days in a row of 95 or higher. imagine that. there are -- the old weather front that stretches down along the coast and that's been the focus of the showers and rain that we have missed. look at more rain down around outer banks. if you are heading down to the outer banks of north carolina, there is the area that i think

is more likely to be seeing showers and on the other hand, in and around us, really nothing going on. our -- to get an idea, eastern north carolina. so far this month, 11 inches of rain. there have been really heavy rains. we saw that flooding around the norfolk area. the same time going out. around the bay. beautiful from tillman island. 81 degrees. with the winds out there. and the tropics much of it is still quiet. this is a tropical wave. you can see the coast of africa. that's a possible bill that it could be come a depression. not much going on. a few waves. meanwhile, out on the pacific, that little circulation there, that is hurricane willermo. winds at 100 miles per hour. out in the pacific, things are a little bit more active. for us, over the next few days, while there's a little -- bend like that in the jet stream the overall pattern is still a dry one. and that circulation down to our south, we will keep an eye on that. eventually next week something

you know. as a lawyer, you think that -- only need to pay the price if the government can prove that you did it. he chose not to put him through that. >> reporter: his four decade ig nhtf o ac the night of ent july 25 when he struck another car on the ramp to i-66. baker's blood alcohol level was .19. more than twice the legal limit. though some supporters urged him to stay on as chief, three days later, city leaders announced baker had resigned, taking early retirement. now his guilty plea puts the criminal case behind him and while he didn't speak to reporters baker issued a statement apologizing tfo alexandria residents and the driver of the other car. writes baker -- >> he's somebody who feels he made a mistake and peels there is a price that the legislature set forth and he's going to pay

being cited for driving without a license and failure to establish residency in maryland. the swimming star back to his home state after his record-setting performance in the 2008 olympics. d.c. police are looking for the driver involved in a deadly hit-and-run this morning. the man was killed as he crossed along suitland parkway of the intersection of stanton road at 2:30 this morning in southeast. police say the man was thrown 120 feet. they have not released his identity just yet. witnesses describe the car as a small, possibly black or dark blue and may have front-end damage or cracked windshield. if you know anything about the crash, call police. a charles county judge has admitted to his boss that he let the air out of t heis happened monday when t is happened monday when t m mawon parked i the judge's spot at the charles county courthouse. today tracee wilkins spoke with the judge's boss about the incident. >> regardless of what he did -- >> reporter: the judge said that's a fact judge robert nalley forgot that he decided to

flatten the cleaning woman's tires for parking in his space at the charles county courthouse. he admitted he did it to the judge the next day. >> he thought if he called and had the car towed that would be more than convenient than just letting the air out of the tires. that was his rationale. i was disappointed. >> reporter: thursday judge nalley resigned as chief administrator of the charles county surrogate court meaning he is no longer in charge of the courthouse but still is a judge. while today he was sanctioned by his supervisor. nalley will no longer sit on criminal cases. only civil until the investigation into the matter is complete. >> as a civilian, one thing to let the air out after tire. it is a minor thing. you wouldn't be talking to me. he is a judge. and he has to understand that. >> reporter: part of the investigation will most likely involve cell phone video taken a schaeffer's deputy of the judge flattening the tire. have you seen the video? >> i have not. >> reporter: do you want to see the video?

'shellll -- he's really very, very -- r sorry that that happened. he -- it was a mistake of judgment. but mistakes have consequences. >> reporter: the police department is done investigating this case. it has been moved on. most likely to the state prosecutor's office. although they cannot confirm nor deny that they are handling the case. if so, they will be the ones to decide whether or not judge nalley will face criminal charges. that could mean jail time or a

eagles practice facility. in front after packed house today. vick was remorseful and when talking about his involvement in dogfighting. after spending 18 months in prison, vick feels like he is in a good place with the eagles and will back up donovan mcnabb, quarterback, at least for now and no qb controversy in philadelphia. mcnabb endorsed the move and vick is anxious to get things going. >> you know, i think -- you know, everybody deserves a second chance. you know, we all have issues. we all deal with certain things. and, you know, we all have our own set of -- in our life. and, you know, i think as long as we -- you are willing to come back ask do it the right way, and do the right things and you are committed, then i think you deserve it. but you only get one shot and at a second chance. i'm conscious of that. >> i'm just really happy that things turned out this way. i'm proud of the philadelphia eagles. i know they didn't do this as charity measure.

they feel like mike is going to help their football team. and be a weapon for them. but they also stepped out to give a man a second chance. and i think that's important. >> former colts head coach tony dungy has been vick's mentor throughout this process. vick gets a two-year nonguaranteed contract from the eagles. it will pay him $1.6 million in thfirst year. eagles have an option for a second year at just over $5 million. he will be eligible to play in the regular season. no later than week six. the eagles' week seven opponent the redskins. on monday night football at fedexfield. redskins players found out last night during the game michael vick was not only coming back, he had signed with the eagles. now, all of them, very glad to see him back with the team. maybe not necessarily in the nfc east but glad to see him back. >> when you think about it, you think about him and mcnabb, two

similar style quarterbacks, that i think what they will do, relies on the offense for his wildcat maybe, line him up as a receiver positions and try on get the ball in his hands. for them, i'm sure they will use him in different situations and i don't know the situation as backup quarterback, i think kyle was hurt. so, you know, gives him an opportunity to be their backup. >> he will be very difficult. i think that it will be interesting to see how he works into the eagles, you know. unfortunately he is in our division. he has been out a couple of years. i think a guy like that is going to be so fired up and i'm excited that he's -- he's able to start progressing back in. i would say this. that he is with an excellent football coach. he will get to learn from some tremendous veteran leaders. and i think donovan mcnabb is hanging out with donovan and will be able to help him work through some of these. i don't know what he will have to work through but i know it will be difficult.

>> i do want to say this. as much as we have been talking about this today, i didn't mention this. he has committed to working with animal abuse organizations and he said he is dedicated to doing as much for animals to help them he did to hurt them. >> that's good, yes. >> hopefully everything works out for michael vick. maybe not the eagles at least when they play the redskins. last four times tiger woods has let a major after the first round, folk, it has been game over. he never trailed and went on to win each time. round two of the pga championship started with tiger alone atop the leaderboard. might not be the case at the end of round two. we are in minnesota. just outside of the twin cities. tiger looking for his first major of the year. this is a birdie putt on number six. and it gs to get him back to five under. tiger still at five under through 13 holes. ross fisher, englishman on 13. he gets to five under par. but he bogeyed recently through 17 holes.

michael phelps is not maryland's only olympic winner. a local golfer just back from the senior olympics and he's wearing a silver medal around his neck. he also just so happens to be 91 years old. joins us live with o >> reporter: this is a story about a good man in annapolis, his wards and how the game of golf gives meaning to his life. one of these four golfers is an olympic medal winner. it is not me.

it is i t s it gno it is not th guyth in the blue. 91-year-old john ford. winner of the silver in the national senior olympics. john ford, golfing for 75 years. he's played more than 3,040 rounds. >> my job is to exercise, better than any pills they ever made. i think i got to stick with that. >> reporter: job ford, back from california where over several days of competition he came in second and secured the silver. it is fluke. john ford has been a member of the annapolis golf club for 47 years. he has been the club champion seven times. has 14 maryland state golf

>> 75 years he has been playing golf. >> takes that long to get good at it. >> i hope not. >> thanks, pat. appreciate that. four-star hotel near venice, italy, mistakenly offered the ultimate low-cost vacation. get this. the crown plaza advertised for a romantic weekend getaway for one euro cent on the website. the hotel received some 5,000 bookings that run through october 2010. the hotel first thought of hacker posted the offer but turns out to be human error. the hotel salesmanager says the reservations are valid and that the company will have to decide how to deal with those customers. it is a mistake that could cost the company more than $100,000. did you book your room? >> where was i that day? why were we cruising the internet that day? >> geez. >> that was -- that's it. that's all we 'got for now. that's our broadcast.
