good evening, i'm in for doreen gensler. >> i'm jim vance. since may 16th. 16 motorcycles most sports bikes have been stolen from homes in and around charles county area. police say the scheme involved stolen vans and thieves who struck in the early morning hours. tonight there may be a break in the case. jackie benson is in waldorf with more. jackie? >> jim, a police chase that began here in the parking lot this afternoon resulted in an arrest that may have broken up a brazen motorcycle theft ring. the thieves have been targeting charles county motorcycle owners for months. they steal a minivan, remove the seats and use it to steal motorcycles from parking lots and homes. 16 bikes have been stolen that way since may. riders have been on alert. >> i kind of wherever i am at. >> investigators may have gotten

a big break in the case this afternoon at a park and ride commuter lot on beantown road in waldorf. a motorist thought there was something suspicious about a man loading a motorcycle into a minivan. diane richardson with the charles county sheriff's office confirmed a suspect has been apprehended. >> suspects get away with it because they steal minivans which don't normally draw the attention of people. they remove the bench seats. then go to parking lots or just scope out areas looking for motorcycles. >> park and ride lot users were pleased to hear one of their own helped catch a thief. >> that did happen around my neighborhood. i didn't have any problems like that really. >> the sheriff's office says the investigation is continuing. jiback few you. >> jackie benson. thank you. >> heat exhaustion cut football aloc lenoz local erath peiccty. w the practice wasn i stephensville, maryland, kent island high school. and over the football field earlier this morning.

before 6:00 when students started feeling sick and overheated. many of them needed to cool off with some water. 12 players were taken to the hospital. they're all expected to be okay. >> today, president obama talked up his health care reform before those who helped him win the election. a rally was held at the democratic national committee headquarters today. it was held to reenergize activists and volunteers. the president wants his supporters to take the dri they had during the election and turn that to health care reform. >> we all know this has been an emotional debate. we have seen tempers flare. accusations have been hurled. and sometimes it seems like one loud voice can drown out all the civil sensible voices out there. >> president also pitched his plan to conservativeconservativ. as a guest of a philadelphia-based radio talk show host. meantime, people in our area continue to learn more about the plan.

>> congresswoman donna edward said it is too early to know if there will be open enrollment. she told the last gentleman a new system would most benefit people like him who currently have no health care. edward also touted the benefits of the public option. one that would essentially create a government-run health care program to compete with private insurers. >> i think it is really important few have what i describe as a robust public plan option. that is a choice. that nobody is going to be forced into. >> when she finished taking questions, edward wrapped up her townhall by chiding the president for not demanding that a public option be a part of reform. >> the president has to be more declarative. and the president for a lot of reasons -- >> congresswoman edwards will be holding a townhall meeting tuesday in germantown. tonight she said she does not expect that crowd to be as friendly. back few you. >> craig melvin. thank you. the only person convicted in

mayor in connecticut facing charges after he allegedly led police on a high-speed chase with a stolen boat. dash-cam video showed the guy trying to escape from the cops pulling a 32-foot boston whaler. after swerving dangerously side to side he lost control of the car. lost his load as well. the boat flipped off the trailer slid down the highway. the driver was then arrested. there is a new push to expand metro to woodbridge and centreville. congressman jerry conley wants to see the blue line extend to wood bridge. it would stretch the orange line vienna to centreville. conley is asking for tens of millions in federal dollars to
