watch today. we could get some more rain tonight. veronica johnson is tracking the storms from the storm center. hey, veronica. >> the bulk of that between 1:00 and 3:30 this afternoon. the worst of it east of the area. we are getting a break here but already west there will be warm air building around areas west of winchester and front royal and that's the line that could be on top of us by 7:00, 7:30. let me show you earlier today. it was just pouring some spots across the area. we have heavier rain. came through our area. all parts between -- one continuous line stretching from areas around howard county through montgomery and fairfax and areas south. reduced visibility. there's some spots around here like rockville, maryland. and that picked up close to two inches of rainfall y.toda ndea rn we didn't have the widespread severe thunderstorm warnings across the area is because the tops were too low with these.

here's the thing. we were under severe thunderstorm watch until 9:00 p.m. you can see how the areas shade way back on the last frame. al variety, st. mary's and parts of the northern neck now. that really is it. plenty of lightning in those spots. curve enly hanging on. >> dale city, mt. vernon, showers moving through. let me take you to the echo path. this is what the future will be bringing us. 5:30, i-81, move coming through. late 7:00, more showers and possibly isolated thunderstorms moving back through. so the boxes today not just here but tall way up into new york city, vermont, new hampshire, and down south into virginia. severe thunderstorm watch area. of course, the other big mousse is, of course, hurricane bill. and in its tracks expected to move to the west of bermuda. the storm, 289 miles south and southwest of hamilton, bermuda. hurricane bill still a powerful category 3. packing winds of 110 miles per

hour. and its track off to the north. it may be just grazing now. moving east of the areas around new england. around cape cod and hyannis area before pulling away. for our area, there will be some rough surf. and some high waves along the beaches this weekend. and 86 degrees by 7:00 p.m. more showers, isolated storms moving through. probably up until midnight. we could see wet weather and fog for tomorrow morning. so we cooled off with these storms. our threat diminishing. we have more raining moving in for tomorrow, too, with the front that will stall out. we will talk about the beach and just how high the waves could be in a few minutes. back to you. >> thanks, veronica. stocks soared this friday on wall street as we get more signs of an economic recovery. housing market appears to be bouncing back. we just saw the largest monthly increase of existing home sales in ten years. experts credit street government incentive program designed inform afirst-time home buyers.

meanwhile, another government incentive program, cash for clunkers, is coming to an end. michelle franzen has our report. >> reporter: it is the biggest gain for existing home sales in a decade. resales, single family, town homes, condos soared 7.2%ast month. realty economists call it an encouraging sign the housing mark set bouncing back. >> four straight months of rise. the increase is not isolated. we have seen essentially all four major regions of the country. >> reporter: foreclosed, kiss stressed property that counts for nearly a third of july's resale. many first-time buyers are taking advantage of bargain prices. low intest rates and a 10% home buyer tax credit. but experts say that experienced buyers and investors are also jumping back in. >> sentiment is shifting and people are recognizing housing market reached bottom and now they are entering the market with little fear of further price decline. >> reporter: the troubled housing market is one area, the

sigel court in dumfries. >> it was around 8:00 last night. something is not right. >> reporter: she called police after not seeing her neighbors for two days. the husband and wife were planning to move to denver, colorado. >> i went over to help them on tuesday of this week to help her pack. i packed her pantry. >> reporter: after tuesday evening, the moving in and out of the house came to an abrupt stop. >> wedneay came, knocked on the door all day nothing. all we saw was the dog barking. okay, thursday, yesterday, nothing all day. knocking on the door, barking. >> reporter: prince william county police say the home is a scene of a murder have been suicide. the husband and wife both in their 50s appeared to have died of gunshot wounds. >> it is really sad because -- everything happened -- brought them down when the bank took the house from them. >> reporter: abigail said earlier this summer the husband ask wife told her they refinanced the home and had been buying for 17 years.

but then were surprisingly notified the house had been sold and had to get out. today sheriff's deputies were expected to evict the couple if they weren't out already. >> they had the house packed up. i guess it was just, you know, too much on her that brought her down. it is really sad. >> reporter: public records show that this home was bought in early summer. we don't have any official confirmation explaining how this couple lost their home. in dumfries, tracee wilkins, news4. u.s. and british officials are condemning the hero's welcome given last night to a libyan man, man convicted in the lockerbie bombing, abdel basset ali al megrahi. step off the plane wearing a dark suit. he was greeted and embraced by the son of libyan leader gadhafi. megrahi is said to be suffering from terminal prostate cancer. hundreds of people were waiting for hours at the airport for the

jasmine. pictures of her marriage back in march have now surfaced. but in june, he was charged with assaulting his newlywed bride. then on saturday, her body was found stuffed in a small suitcase. dumped in a trash bin outside of los angeles. >> jenkins is an animal. what he has done to jasmine is -- unspeakable. >> reporter: investigators say jasmine was last seen with jenkins at a poker tournament in san diego. the night before her naked body was discovered. she was strangled to death but it was the grizzly crime scene. family members could barely contain their emotions as investigators described what had been done to her body. >> the fingers and teeth were removed. >> reporter: after first reporting jasmine as missing last weekend detectives say jenkins, native of canada, disappeared. police found jenkins' car a thousand miles away in northwestern washington state.

>> it is a cornmeal pancake. originated after a farmer's hard day at work. basically he would take white cornmeal and add salt, sugar and baking powder and then heat the bottom side and make a pancake out of it, a cornmeal cake. we turn it into almost like a pizza and put different toppings on it and doing -- actually a new one for us at the bay. it is a grilled version of one of the things we do. >> sure, all right. involves lamb. let's get started right to left here. we start there with the -- making the batter. right? >> right here we have our mix of white cornmeal and all the ingredients we listed. add melted butter to this. you know, butter makes it better. we are also going to add a little bit of water, as well. mix it up and pancake consistency basically. so making it wet and we are -- mix this together. probably a little more liquid as we are going in through here. little bit more butter to that. then what we are going to do is drizzle a bit of this. right on the griddle here.

bit with a line of storms that moved through. and, again, those storms did draw quite a bit of rain through the area. almost an inch and a half, gaithersburg, maryland. 79 degrees, currently after a high temperature of 91. and from 90 to 76 great falls, almost an inch and a half. over an inch, inch and a quarter, falls church. 92, 79 degrees. what's left right now, caroline county at around talbot county, a few severe thunderstorm warnings left. in the middle we don't have much of anything going on. stephens city, front royal, another line that is advancing. this is what i think will be over our area by the time we get to about 7:30, 8:00 or so. so i have showers and more thunderstorms, isolated thunderstorms, in the forecast until 9:00. watch to the north. airport delays for new york. there is the weather front west of the area. that's what will stall and as bill, hurricane bill, make its way west ofber mud and stays well off the mid atlantic coast.

the count. if neither candidate gets more than 50% of the vote, there will be a runoff. well, with the kids heading back to school soon, many of us are beginning to think more about the spread of swine flu. today we got an update from health officials about how the vaccine trials are going and just how bad the outbreak could be. tracie pottses that latest. . >> reporter: with swine flu on the way everyone is taking precautions from employers allowing the sick to work from home. >> we could surviven a quarter of our work staff. >> reporter: to day cares asking parents to drop their kids at the door. >> what we find is a balance. between being proactive and not overreacting. >> reporter: today a world health organization official said expect an explosion of swine flu this fall. >> i wouldn't use that word explosion. but it is entirely conceivable that as the kids come back to school and congregate closely together, you are going to see an upsurge. >> reporter: because the vooi virus used to make the vaccine

is growing slowly, we will only get a third of the doses that had been expected by mid october. >> it is a re between the virus and the vaccine ande will see what happens. >> reporter: 4500 children and adults are in clinical trials. so far there have been no safety problems. results on how well the vaccine works will start coming out mid september. anti-viral medicines like tamiflu can fight swine flu. the world health organization is asking doctors to save those medicines for the young and the elderly and pregnant women. doctors warn that swine flu isn't the only health concern this fall. >> after h1m1 maybe we will get a double barrel. we all have to be flexible this year. >> reporter: good news from down under. australia while winter is almost over and swine flu started out strong is starting to slow down. and that's without vaccine. from capitol hill, i'm tracie potts, news4. a friend of michael jackson's is explaining why he

he then allegedly began yelling, hit the woman and a couple of other passengers. eventually took all of his clothes off. he was arrested when the plane returned to oakland. both the suspect and woman were treated at the hospital for minor injuries. there's word that some of the passengers onboard were too shaken off to continue the flight. >> plane couldn't land fast enough. ups driver delivered in more ways than one. he was on his route in connecticut and when he saved this little guy's life. spotted a sick chihuahua tied to a gutter. the driver untied the dog and immediately brought him to a nearby shelter. he was terribly underweight and dehydrated. shelter workers nursed him back to health and plan to put the animal up for adoption when it recovers. with the government getting out of cash for clunkers some private groups are stepping in now. a new york synagogue will give congregates free high holiday tickets if member donate their old cars. it won't cost donors a dime to attend rosh hashanah or yom
