a popular show comes to washington. concerns about police involvement. and who is going to pay. good evening. i'm wendy rieger sitting in for doreen gensler. >> i'm jim vance. it has taken over a block in northeast washington. plans call for the show to rebuild a community center. but working alongside the builders will be d.c. police offser on the clock. and we have learned the city will not get reimbursed by the show. jackie benson in northeast d.c. with more. >> reporter: you can see the officers at work here at the construction site the home of an after school program for some of the city's neediest children. should d.c. police officers be providing security here? news 4 has obtained documents showing police chief kathy laneer authorized the use of dozens of on-duty officers 24 hours a day to protect a bidding under construction onned me street northeast the scene of an

[ inaudible ] >> first, the cost of health care. >> i'm here because i don't want a nationalized health care system. i'm 26 years old. young, healthy. i don't think that the united states and the taxpayers of the united states should have to pay for a nationalized health care system. there is a free market solution we can enact. >> congressman moran interrupted dean to ask the protestors to settle down so everyone could hear the speech.

the crowd was more low key at a townhall meeting in prince george's county tonight. donna edwards held a gathering at a community center in germantown. 300 people listened as, she before asking their questions. the crowd seemed to be splilt, but heckling and chanting were kept to a men mum. people in parts of maryland heard fighter jets and attack helicopter overhead this afternoon. it's because a small plane violated restricted airspace over theashington area. it was escorted back to the gaithersburg airport. darcy spencer is at the montgomery county airport with more. darcy. >> residents are saying they haven't seen this activity in the sky since 9/11. f-16 jets as well as blackhawk helicopters and apparently this was all over a pilot who got lost. >> i had it up too high. >> michael needham working on his patio this aftersunshine when he heard the sounds of fighter jets over his home. >> i looked up and saw this little airplane right over my

house. and this helicopter, big black helicopter, following this little plane. i said well you know what? i think this guy is in trouble. >> this was a small cessna he saw. this was the pilot considered a student. he had apparently wandered into restricted airspace, a dozen miles from the capital, failed to communicate with authorities and was intercepted by military aircraft. the pilot, flying solo was escorted to the montgomery county air park in gaithersburg. >> looked like to me another pilot didn't know the area. got offcourse. or didn't realize the no fly rules around here. >> sources tell news 4 the pilot was from pennsylvania. he was headed to delaware, got lost and disoriented. interviewed by secret service agents and the faa before being released. sources say, this is the second time this same aircraft caused a scare in washington. in 2005, the plane with a different pilot ventured into restricted airspace causing the white house and capitol to be evacuated. >> scary if it happens to you, i

a little girl in ash burn, virginia is fighting cancer and becoming some what of an internet star in the process. all because of her new best friend. a 12-year-old who is trying to use music as a weapon in the fight. michael flynn has our report. a friendship between two children who share a love for music. the 12-year-old and 4-year-old are almost like sisters.

brought together by a deadly disease. >> i love her. she is cute. fun and smart. >> taylor may look healthy. when she was 18 months old she was diagnosed with stage four, high risk neuro blastomo. >> our daughter was told she has tumors growing in her eyes. and grape size fruit sized tumor in her belly. over the next few days we learned it was throughout her bone marrow and different spots in her body. >> early last year, abby found out about taylor who lives near her. abby loves to sing. and wanted to let her musical talents to help in the little girl's fight. abby stars in a music video in a public service announcement now on youtube aimed at raising awareness and donations. they show candid moments of taylor undergoing treatments.

>> the reason why was just to look get people aware of it and to get people interested in helping. >> thanks to expensive medical care and support from people like abby, right now doctors don't see any cancer in taylor. still there is the high relapse rate for her disease. she has more painful treatments ahead. and taylor has this message for abby and everyone else who has helped her so far. >> thank you. >> thank you. michael flynn, news 4. a monster mega millions jackpot has people doing some late night shopping in maryland and virginia tonight. the jackpot is at $252 million with $159 million cash payout. one of the biggest in the history of the game. march '07, mega million grew to $390 million. the largest jackpot in history. people raced to convenience stores today with hopes of finding the winning ticket.

you never know what you get with animals on television. canadian anchor couldn't keep a dog off her during an adopt a pet segment. went on for three minutes. ginger. he was, quite taken by the anchor there. needless to say ginger's antics have become an online hit. and the shelter has received hundreds of calls to adopt. sweet, sweet ginger. >> none from her
