storms have already passed through this afternoon and parts of our area now under a flood watch at this hour. hello. welcome to news4. i'm jim handly. >> i'm kimberly sirts in for pat lawson muse. parts of maryland are under a flash flood warning at this hour. >> veronica johnson has been tracking the rai all day for us and joins us now live from the storm center with the latest. veronica? >> that's ght. parts of the area be under a flash flood watch that goes into the night. silver spring, maryland, picking up over two ihes of rain. it had been a busy afternoon with a lot of neighborhoods already getting a good soaking here. and over an inch, mclean, virginia, where it was coming down in buckets there earlier. 75. cool side today. but the air really loaded up with a lot of moisture. here's a look at where that flood watch is. again, it is until late tonight and covers frederick county, maryland. loudoun county as well as fairfax county, d.c., prince george's county, and anne arundel county, howard, baltimore, up into northeastern maryland. right now there are flash flood

warnings on maryland's eastern shore. so here is a look at the satellite and radar loop and where that weather front is because there will be a front stalled out moving back to the north tonight and then another front coming up for the latter part of the weekend. all this as we watch danny graze the coast and track northward. still a tropical storm. it is hanging on. it will be a little closer to the coast than bill but, again, there's a lot of tropical moisture that's in the air and because of that, we could see some heavy rain coming our way during the overnight period. some spots could pick up two and three inches of rain. 75 degrees by 11 cloak. mid 70s dropping holding there with cool temperatures during the overnight period. heavy rain, i think, it is possible that we could see more flood warnings coming our way. and we will talk about any dry pockets during our upcoming weekend. back to you. >> like the sound of that. we have breaking news right now in the michael jackson homicide investigation. just a short time ago, the coroner releasedis report on

exactly what led to jackson's death. jay gray has the story now from los angeles. . >> reporter: following his final reverse hal michael jackson inhaled a cocktail of sedatives. more than two months after the pop star's death, the coroner ruled it was a homicide. established the cause as, quote, acute propofol intoxication. the document also indicates that at least five depress ans, anti ainge zitant drugs were found in jackson's system and contributed to his death. >> those drugs, you can build a tolerance to. apparently at some point he was taking more and more of those drugs. and i think that in order to keep pushing to get the effects they wanted, that is -- good night's sleep, they just went too far. >> reporter: also today, the investigation continues, los angeles police confirmed they will ultimately turn their

findings over to the district attorney to consider charges in the case. according to law enforcement sources, the most likely charge is manslaughter. and the primary suspect continues to be jackson's personal physician, dr. conrad murray. jay gray, nbc news, los angeles. for a second day mourners are turning out in huge numbers to say good-bye to senator edward kennedy. here's a live look outside the john f. kennedy memorial library where at least 25,000 people have filed by to pay their last respects to the lionf the senate. senator kennedy pass wade tuesday night of brain cancer. kennedy family members are also there with a special message for all those that have given their support during this difficult time. steve handelsman has more from boston. >> reporter: emotions ran high as thousands more mourners filed

old furniture warehouse in north carolina this morning. this burned out shell is all that's left after the old drexel heritage plant went up in flames. witnesses say that flames shot 50 feet in the air. heavy timber inside the building fueled the flames and it took more than 50 firefighters to get interest under control. the building has been vacant for years. investigators are still looking into what started the fire. authorities in blacksburg, virginia, say they believe the cold-blooded killing of two virginia tech students was random act. the victims were found early yesterday morning about 15 miles from campus in the caldwell fields area of the jefferson national forest. they had been identified as 19-year-old davi metsler of lynchburg and his girlfriend, 18-year-old heidi childs of forest, virginia. metsler was found in his car and childs was on the ground outside of the car. they had both been shot. the records that could shed light on last year's big water

inch of rain. close to two. andrews air force base. temperature now at 77 degrees. so here's the area that i'm focused right now. it has been sliding from fredericksburg through salomons, over towards oxford. that's where the heaviest vein. then we have another batch that's up around areas of hagerstown and moving northeastward, too. as we zoom in on the city, here's the area that had the heavy rain last night. so all the blue shaded counties, that's where there is a flash flood watch up for much of the early part of the night. up until about midnight. then down to the south again, watching this area sliding northeast towards deale. temperatures across the area, 76. cool, 77. quantico. little higher tomorrow. and the air may be a little less moisture but 69 to 71 degrees. any time you get it that loaded up it is that real easy to wring it out and get a lot of rain in a short period of time. two and three-inches of rain across the area.

d.c., new york, earlier today down around atlanta and west around detroit. here's the weather front we are dealing with. south of the area right now. it is going to start making its way northward and during the overnight period, all this as we watch danny graze the coast. like bill, it is going to take a similar track and cut right through bermuda and the east coast. we will do okay here with some moderate impact around our beaches with rough surf and high waves. new england not so great. that's where the worst of ill bi e. w eullwite. but we will see some of that moisture pulling our way. and, again, we could see some heavy rainfall during the overnight period. that again means w could see some flash flood warnings, too. here it is. weigh start with 8:00 p.m. some showers, some thundershowers across the area. by 8:00 a.m. tomorrow morning, overcast skies. most of the rain will be out of here by tomorrow morning. then we could get more in here with the next front that moves in during the afternoon. not a washout for tomorrow. certainly not for the weekend.

wildfires are burning large areas and threatening homes. the worst of the fires are in the northeastern suburbs of los angeles and montaerey counties. los angeles county coroner ruled michael jackson's death a homicide caused by two drugs. a short time ago he released a statement. naming the cause of death as acute intoxication from an anesthetic. the report says that other sedatives also contributed to the death. there are new developments in another complicated and tragic story out of california. a girl held captive for 18 years has been reunited with her family. >> she is 29 years old now. and the mother of two children fathered by the suspect. while she and her real family deal with the emotion of it all, her alleged abductor and his wife sit behind bars facing charges. brian mooar has the latest. >> reporter: for 18 years, this maze of tents and sheds was

jaycee dugard's prison. it was home for her two young daughters, ages 15 and 11, both fathered by the man now accused of kidpping jaycee when she was just 11. convicted sex offender bill garrido and his wife today are answering up to dozens of criminal charges in a california court. in a phone interview from jail, garrido tried to defend himself. >> as the criminal case begins, jaycee and her family have been reunited. the stepfather who witnessed her kidnapping calls her safe return a miracle. >> she's fairly healthy. my wife said she looks almost like she was when she was kidnapped. you know, she has been outside in the rough for like camping 18 years in this compound. unbelievable. >> reporter: the compound included little more than a makeshift shower and out house and an extension cord for power.

the gruesome killings as seven armed men broke into their home. the sheriff says that the gunman shot byrd while melanie billings and nine special needs children huddled on the floor. the police diagrams show the couple was then dragged into the bedroom and shot multiple times. six men and a teenager had all pleaded not guilty to first-degree murder. it was no day athe t beach for one connecticut teenager who found himself trapped unto his neck in sand. james boyden was digging a hole on a beach in rhode island when this five-foot hole collapsed around m. his family tried to dig him out until rescuers arrived. they provided that oxygen mask and used supports and ladders to stabilize the area around it. an hour later, james was freed. he and his family shared the experience on the "today" show this morning. >> well, at the beginning it was like -- it hurt a little bit. because of all the sand, it got in my mouth and got in my lungs.

welcome back, veronica john son in storm center 4. we take a look at radar. the heavy rain south of the area, these are the areas that we are watching around fredericksburg, west umber land and north umber land county. those other counties just north had the heavy rain last night and these are the ones that are right now filled in and where there's a flash flood watch until 2:00 a.m. for portions of maryland and d.c. and northern virginia. so possibility of more flooding taking place here as we get, again, another rou of heavy rain and at least moderate and heavy rain come our way probably after midnight.

you are in bethesda. just opened an old town. >> exciting. we are happy to be there. >> we are talking about turkey burgers and doing a whole meal on the grill. quickly let's talk about the turkey burger we did in the last second. takes longer to dook burger. >> poultry, chicken. takes longer. added fat into it like the cheese. cook it longer and you have to cook it all the way through. no medium or medium rare with turkey. >> i didn't mean to put my nose on it. >> that's yours, that's yours. now. >> you make a blue cheese lover out of me. let's head to the grill. you have a french dish. why on the grill? >> french guys would kill me if they saw this. the idea was make one meal on the grill at night. you don't need to fire multiple ovens. in the 60s around here. eggplant, yellow squash, zucchini, salt and pepper. you can do this on the stove. on the grill it smells great. people walking by going into the newsroom saying it never smelled better out here. spectacular, easy. kids think it is tomato sauce.

my kids love it. make it at home. don't be scared of it. >> for dessert, how do you do dessert on a grill, mark? >> we had to think of this. one of the producers said come up with a meal. we came up with a meal and took peaches which are now towards the tail end of the season but the biggest they have been all summer. show us how you put one on. 30 seconds. do you do anything to the peach? cut it. put cinnamon and sugar it. that's it. put it the grill. that's it. let it cook. and you waited until it is soft to the touch on the back. it will get soft here and tell you when it is done. >> like peach cobbler. >> it is like peach cobbler without the cobbler so it is healthier. >> what's this lovely bit of cream there? >> it is so hot out here. this is our vanilla ice cream. but that's it. that's the dessert. and you put that out for everybody. >> okay. >> knife and fork. >> i meet eat dessert first. >> go, go, go. that's good. >> hot off the grill. all right. thanks, mark. send it back to you, zblim kimberly, would you be a peach and bring us one of those peaches? >> no. i'm going to keep them all. >> no. >> it is melting.
