struck by a train. we weredad tol that person wase undernea the trn.n. and riders should expect major delays. derrick is live on the scene. >> reporter: we have updated information. turns out this person was on the upper level of the gallery play station. that would be the upper level. and train service through here is still operating on the other level, but people are also being told at some point to get off the trains and get a shuttle bus around the station. what we understand this person was not a metro worker. it was a civilian. they were struck by the train and ended up towards the center of the train here. metro officials are still on the scene as are those of the

metropolitan police department. we have no identity on the victim, but we have been told that it is a confirmed fatality. we will have more information as it becomes available. you might want to avoid this area, because they have yet to remove the victim from the tracks. we are live in northwest, so back to you in the studio. >> one person dead after being struck by a metro train at the metro center gallery place metro station. we are working to get metro officials on the phone and will have more information as it becomes a available. and cab drivers are on edge after armed robbies. a 60-year-old cabdriver was shot and critically injured. there has been a recent rise in robberies targeting taxies

over the past few months. a driver sitting in his cab was shot in his stomach and robbed outside his home on i street. >> i think anybody should be shot to protect what is his. >> on friday, a 16-year-old was charged with assault and armed robbery for the i street holdup and two other juveniles were arrested in the crime. the teens may be responsible for some of the other cab ldups, but not all of them. >> be aware of any suspicious activity that they see from their passengers. i would definitely be aware of anybody that changes the droppoff location in the middle of the ride. >> that's exactly what happened to this cabdriver last year in george town when his customer

said he needed to make a quick stop at his office, and then pulled out a knife. and that driver and others say they cannot swell on the risks of the job as they go out to simply earn a living. michael flynn, news4. >> police are offering $10,000 for the arrest and conviction of anybody holding up u the driver. a 17-year-old leslie an hook was killed on woodville road. she was driving home from school when her car crossed the center line and hit a tree. the passengers are expected to be okay. people that live in the area say a dangerous curve in the road contributed to several accidents in the area. she is accused of killing their two adoptive daughters and keeping their bodies in a freezy. she entered the plea in the

everybody is ready for september classics around here for the afternoon forecast. and the nice weather arrived today. it's going to be sticking around for most if not all of the upcoming work and school week. well, at least through tuesday or wednesday. then we have a chanceor showers moving back in. after the cloudy week we endu d endured, welcome sunshine is good news. a beautiful day under way. temperatures are climbing fast. several thousands folks competing in the triathlon. it's a good day to compete. look at all the great flags out there as well. beautiful day today. 70 degrees our current temperature in washington. 60 degrees is the current dew point. nice separation, comfortable air. a year ago today we were 93 degrees. it will be a warm one day, warm compared to yesterday, but nowhere near 90 degrees later in the afrnoon.

comebly in the upper 70s and 80s today. 69 degrees in vienna. and 57 degrees in frederick, maryland. and the beautiful weather in baltimore for the game. and if you are still trying to catch the shuttle back up to new york city for the redskins' game, that forecast is looking well. that coming up in a bit. forecast, 60s and 70s to get the day started under a mostly clear sky. and the sunshine goes back to the ohio valley and up in the great state of michigan as well. and back behind it we will get into the northwesterly wind flee and puts the dry air back in place. and then a nice warming trend on the way for today. and i think the warming trend will continue on into tomorrow and into tuesday as well. there is the future cast model.

from him. not too much, but he does understand a lot. >> she says josh concentrates as he puts effort into everything he tries, like making plato figures, and music time at school, and reached for the drum and knew exactly how to use it. outside, josh's favorite thing to do is fly. he has made terrific progress since starting school two years ago. >> he has been in our program since 2006. he has been in foster care since he was a newborn. he learns quickly and made many gains since being with us. >> when josh gets to know you, he is a very loving child. >> josh is super affectionate. he is a joy to be around. always smiling. josh is ready to be with a family that can give him a lot of supervision and a lot of love

day or night of the week. it's the 113th also known as the capital guardian that is responsible for 24/7 protection over the nation's capitol. >> we respond very often. this is some of the busiest airspace in the nation here, in the nation's capitol region. we are out there checking things out often. >> reporter: they have been part of the d.c. national guard for 70 years, but the role changes after 9/11. since then they are on asa, air soverei sovereignty alert. >> we were not here on alert prior to 9/11, but since the attacks in the nation's capitol region, the natn has seen fit to make sure we have aircraft on alert to protect the skies.

>> reporter: i was given permission to fly to a training mission. my pilot, call sign, bang. he was quick to point out how quick he would he to respond on a real mission. >> we would have to get there when we are told to get there. the consequences of not getting there are obvious. >> reporter: after strapping in it was time to take to the skies. we rose from the run way just over 300 knots, and then went into the gray skies above andrews. and then we went over the chesapeake air range. the colonel took me through basic combat maneuvers. although it was the flight of a lifetime for this journalists, i discovered it's tough grueling

work that requires attention to detail, and those conditions are magnified when they respond to a potential threat. after three hours, we returned to andrews. i had greater respect for the men and women who perform the duty. another set of pilots and crew members headed out for an afternoon mission. just another day for the capitol garduardiane guardians, and it's a unit that does not rest. >> reporter: it was my third time in a fighter jet. it never gets old. >> i went up for a 30-minute right with the blue angels. and he asked, what do you think? i asked him if this plane was capable of a level flight. it was corkscrews the whole
