the end to a police chase that began in gainsville, virginia. good evening, everyone. >> at this point, we know a woman was carjacked at gunpoint in virginia. police are looking for the gunman near the beltway and st. barnabus road. >> reporter: we are far away from prince valley. take a look behind me. you'll see the scene that was started. this is where the kidnapping, carjacking, high speed chase ended. a woman, the victim of the carjacking was on a cell phone with her brother. at some point, the phone goes dead. he calls back, he's unable to reach her. he gos to see her, spots her vehicle with her in it and

another guy. he calls it police. virginia state police pick up on the chase at telegraph road. around the beltway, they get off here at st. barnabus road. the car made a u-turn. >> come down in the middle. headlights. >> right now, they still in the process of looking for him. >> reporter: we understand it was a very high speed chase. violent crash. police are still looking for the suspect. he's a black male with khaki pants. they have canine units ithe apartment complex as well as a helicopter overhead. still a very active crime scene at this point.

we are live inside the beway. back to you in the studio. >> thank you. now, to the rescue of a man trapped in a van dangling off the ravine. how did rescuers get there in time? jackie spoke with him. >> reporter: hello. picture this. you are driving along and your car starts skidding on a curve. what happened next is astonishing. >> then, and then, and then, and then. >> reporter: this is how his minivan ended up after he lost control in largo this afternoon. he was trapped inside. >> half-way to the water. >> reporter: no one witnessed the accident. the van plunged 40 feet into the ravine. it could not be seen from the road. he was wear iing a hands free cl phone ear piece talking to a friend in new jersey.

>> i told my friend to call 911 for me. >> i called 911. i described where it was, where he was. then, she said she will call him and try to figure out where he was. >> prince george's fire department responded. they had a challenge. any movement could have sent the van plunging into a depth of water. >> we send a system to go down and secure the vehicle. made access to the patient. he was in good spirits. >> reporter: he's grateful to his rescuers. >> i'm going to have my stbelt on. without my seatbelt, i don't know what would have happened. >> reporter: she said she prayed all the way from howard county. her prayers were answered hen

she saw her husband only had minor injuries to his leg. >> thank you. in the district this avenue, a police officer jumped in the potom potomac. he and his partner came across a woman in trouble near the kennedy center. she fell into the river and was clinging to a root near the bank. >> just her head was out. she was oholding on to a vine. i jumped in the water. fire andres cue got here with a ladder. >> the woman is expected to be okay. the coast guard said she is lucky. there's a 30 foot drop in the river just feet from where the rescue took place.

the suspect is behind bars but police aren't taking about a motive in the death of the yale graduate student annie le. raymond clark was arrested and charnled with her murder. he was in court this afternoon and held on $3 million bond. he killed her and stuffed her body in a wall in a research building where they both worked. police aren't saying anything

about motive. yale's president says there was nothing in clark's work history to raise red flags. >> it says more about the dark side of the human soul than anything else. >> we are learning that police began following clark on saturday, a day before they found le's body. clark was always the prime suspect. police say a college student in baltimore did not intend to kill an intruder with a sword. earlier this week, they say the intruder lunged at the student inside the garage of his house tuesday. the student picked up the swort when he heard the intruder. he was killed at the scene. that student had not bn charged. a group of guys claiming to be fbi agents burst into a home today. the masked men kicked in the

are tricky. you have to be able to see through the tricks. >> reporter: everyone knows whole grains are good for you, but -- >> many serial boxes say made with whole grains or whole grain guarantee. it means there's some whole grains in there, but not 100%. you have to read the ingredient list very carefully. >> reporter: the serial similarities. >> sometimes there's a healthy serial like raisin bran. there's spin offs that aren't as good. >> reporter: the list of ingredients has the details. the result is raisin bran has seven grams of fiber.

raisin bran crunch only four grams. >> beta care teen, sounds wonderful. there's no evidence it will reduce your risk of heart disease. it's not 100% whole grain. >> reporter: sometimes they make claims about healthy sounding ingredients. fruit and yogurt looks like a good idea. >> all you are getting is a very flavored oat cluster with a little bit of strawberry flavor, apple. nonfat yogurt powder treated with heat. if there were active cultures in there, they are killed. >> if youant to crunch the serial claims, check the ingredient list. the first two grains should be whole. look for three grams of fiber
