television networks this year. highly unusual, even for a president that uses media to get his message across. authorities are still looking for a man that car jacked a woman in a target parking lot and then led police on a high-speed chase through two states. it started in gainesville, virginia. a man forced himself into her car and then started to drive towards maryland. and virginia officers caught up and chased him into prince georges county. there where there was a crash involving several cars and a police cruiser. >> all i heard was, bang, bang, and boom, boom, and then shortly after the police car did the same thing. he hit my car and kept on going. >> the suspect got out of the vehicle and ran away. the woman inside the car was not hurt. the search continues this morning for a group of men that broke into a fairfax county house posing at fbi agents.

the men broke into the house in the 3400 block of charleston street yesterday afternoon. police say the masked men beat up the man after tying up the adult victims. the woman and baby were not hurt. police say a college student for a samurai sword does not intentionally try to kill an intruder earlier this week. investigators say the student heard an intruder and picked up the sword. according to the police, the intruder lunged at him. he died at the scene. the student has not been charged. we are learning about açó m arrested in the case of a murdered college student. clark was a technician in the lab where le also worked. police say he killed her and stuffed her body inside a wall.

authorities are still not saying why, but eluded to an issue of workplace violence. co-workers reportedly described clark as a control freak that clashed with researchers over the mice cages in the lap. and they say there was nothing in clark's work history that raised regular flags. >> it says more about the dark side of the human soul than it does about anything else. >> we are also learning that police first began following clark on saturday, a day before they found le's body. the police chief told a newspaper that clark was always the prime suspect. nonetheless, t arrest came as a shock to the people who knew him. his friends appeared on the "today" show this morning. >> you don't want to think it's true. and you wake up every morning and there is new evidence that comes about. you almost want to think, is that really the person that you have known your whole life? please let it be a stunt double. >> his friends described clerk

developing news out of pakistan this morning. that's where 25 people were dead after a suicide bomber rammed a car packed with explosives into a hotel. it happened in the northern part of the country. it's the second bombing there in two days. the town which sits near the afghan border has a history of violence between the shiite and sunni muslim sects. and a plan called for a system to have been built in poland and the czech republicic. and yesterday president obama said the pentagon has a better and cheaper way to guard against

missile attacks against iran. and robert gates says he supports the about face, but republicans say the move makes america look weak. and former vice president cheney i recovering from back condition. he had lumbar spinal stenosis. it's a narrowing of the spinal canal. his office says the operation was successful. mr. cheney has had a number of medical problems over the year, including four heart attacks. the massachusetts legislature is one step closer to carrying out one of the late senator ted kennedy's wishes. it passed a law that would allow the governor to name an interim apartment to fill kennedy's empty seat. kennedy said the governor should be given the power to appoint a successor so the state could be

fully represented in the debate on health care. mcdonnell faced tough questions. he debated creigh deeds in fairfax county yesterday. deeds criticized mcdonnell for his master's thesis in 1989 %pundermined the family. deeds promised new money for roads in his first year in office, and monnell wants to sell off state-owned liquor stores to generate cash. he criticized deeds for not saying how he would fund his plan. >> i handed out my plan, and here is my opponent's plan. nothinging there. >> i have a long record of getting things done whether i'm the minority or majority. i can get transportation fixed next year. >>nd candidates will debate twice before november's election two more times.

we begin with weather. thomas, what can we expect for the weekend. >> i am surprised you are not frowning and complaining. >> we have solar deprivation. we only had three days over the weekend and in the first part of the week where we got above average with sunshine. here we are, another day, another morning with a lot of clouds around. we did not have any rain, though, this morning. predawn we did have a few areas of drizzle west and north. but right now the clouds still linger over washington. that's the live view from the sky watcher camera. there is a brightening to the overcast, teasing us and taunting us. and eventually it appears that we ought to get good sunshine breaking out here in washington. as we look at the other view over the potomac river. can you see a deck of gray clouds there. the potomac reflecting the gray overcast, and just to the right

is mreagan national airport whee the temperature is 70 degrees. and september, despite the seemingly damp weather we are below average precipitatn wise. well, let's take a look at radar. we don't have any precipitation this morning. we have the clouds that are lingering at this hour. as we take a look at the view from space we have had some breaks in the cloud coverage to the south and east. temperatures right now are in the upper 60s to near 70 in prince georges county. monta montgomery county is near 70 degrees. and a little cooler where there is thicker clouds from the blue ridge across much of northern virginia. but sunshine breaking out in southern maryland. as well as the blue ridge west, where it's cooler.

and then up towards martinsburg and hagerstown. they have sunshine breaking out. in chantilly, the cool was 61. a little sun trying to break out there. look at their monthly rain. only over 1/3 of an inch. they do need rain. out of the mountains, they are getting sunshine now. temperatures are in the low 70s. and eastern shore, the temperatures are near 70 degrees. the wide view showing other cool temperatures around the great lakes into new england. just to the south, it's near 70. really pleasant autumn weather temperature wise throughout much of the eastern half of the country. as we go forward over the next 48 hours, we have high pressure building over the great lakes now. it will push the clouds out of here. by dawn tomorrow we ought to see

quite a bit of sunshine on saturday as the high pressure sinks over the top of us. we will have increasing sunshine in to saturday afternoon. and far to the west, as we get into sunday morning, here comes another front with rain. it looks like that may be drifting through here by the first part of next week. but the timing is perfect for a nice dry weekend coming up. so for your outdoor recreation and work plans, we should have some wonderful weather. and sunny, mild, light breezes coming out the southwest. should warm us into the mid-70s after the sunshine breaks out. and then good football weather, partly cloudy in the 60s for the evening. by dawn tomorrow we should be in the upper 50s. for saturday, it should be great high school football games tomorrow too. afternoon highs climb into the mid-70s with lots of sunshine and low humidity. sunday morning, under a clear sky, ought to be cool.

truck fire. west of 270 near aircraft drive. the westbound side tied up. eastbound seems to be getting biokay. and then work on 270 itself. the right lane is blocked. could not find much in the way of construction at this hour on 95 or 66. that's very good news. you might find heavy approaching the wilson bridge over on the loop. imagine being trapped inside the van dangling over a ravine. the driver lost control while driving and his van went plunging over the cliff. the van could not be seen from the road and nobody witnessed the accident. fortunate fortunately, he was talking on the hands free phone and asked his friend to call 911 and his wife. >> i just described where he

and a couple is accused of kidnapping and keeping the girl in their backyard for 18 years. and they are getting a first look at the conditions inside. george lewis reports. >> reporter: the photos were shot by the building department last month just before the inspectors said it was condemned, unfit for human habitation. and the inside of the house is incomplete disarray, with pieces of furniture piled on top of one another, and papers strewn on the floor. mounds of dirty pots in the kitchen. and authorities allege these are the kinds of conditions jaycee dugard and her two daughters lived enduring the time that they were kept by phillip and nancy garrido, who have plead

not guilty to all the crges against them. now authorities are mounting a new search at the house to see if the garridos can be tied to a pair of unsolved kidnapping cases in california. today investigators will begin to dig in that area also using ground penetrating rad in their search. george lewis, nbc news, los angeles >> police said they found a bone fragment on the garrido's property that they believe may be a human bone. investigators are figuring out if the pair may be linked to other abduction cases. and a boy is dead after being hit by a train. it happened yesterday afternoon in north west wshs. the teen was found underneath the train. resc rescue workers had to cut power to get to him. he died of the injuries. investigators say the teen was a sophomore at bell multicultural

school. and then ryan served more than three years in jail after a 2004 accident in charles county that killed yvonne hutchin sunson. they are shocked to learn that he was arrested two other times this april and now faces charges with driving without a license. >> it's just very frustrating. once he gets out he reoffends again. there no rehabilitation at all. he just completely disregards the law, apparently, if he is going back to reoffending and driving without a license. he just doesn't care. >> his attorney called his client's actions remorseful. many teenagers may no longer be allowed to use tanning beds in one county. the ban wou prohibit teens after the age of 18 from using

being blamed. at noon tonight the cdc will host a news conference to provide a conference on the update of the swine flu and vaccine destination. and now some parents are choosing to store teeth in a medical bank. baby teeth holds stem cells that can be used to treat a number of diseases. sit worth the hassle and the expense? here is dr. nancy snyderman with more? >> 12-year-old abby is missing a few baby teeth. >> right here. right here. and right here. >> her parents are keeping track for each one, not for the tooth fairy, but for one more important. abby has type 1 diabetes, and they hope one day, some day, stem cells from baby teeth might unlock a cure. the idea is not new.

for a few years, many moms and dads have been banking the blood found in umbilical cords right after their baby's birth. but it's costly, and not all of them take the leap. for this mom, health concerns were a far-off worry until their daughter was diagnosed with diabetes. >> we had no idea. >> and her parents are hopeful about stem cells gathered from the baby teeth. some companies see this as an opportunity, running ads like these, which seem promising. >> stem cells hold the potential to replace diseased cells with healthy cells. >> there is disagreement as to whether it will lead in any cure. >> parents do ask me about baby teeth and stem cells. right now there is not
