sprinkle or two over the next little bit. but by and large most of the al steady heavy rain will come in late this afternn and this evening. temperatures 62 downtown now. 59 in martinurg. 61 in quantico, 64 in southern maryland. we stay in the 60s today with rain becoming more and more likely as the day goes long. no more than a passing sprinkle this morning. heavy rain later tonight. >> all right. thank you, chuck. deadly discove in maryland. four family members, including two children, found dead in a home and police believe this may be a murder/suicide. officers first checked the house in mt. airy last evening after receiving a call from kaerned friend. jackie bensen spoke to neighbors and has the latest from frederick county. >> reporter: the house sits at the end of contour road in quiet mt. airy, maryland. a for sale sign planted in the front yard. a tattered basketball hoop stands nearby. something sad and terrible happened here. the discovery was made about 5:40 p.m. >> 911 call was received from a

friend of the family. he had come by the house and to check on the welfare of the family. looked in the back window and seen a body. our troopers responded. along withhe ems personnel. >> reporter: maryland state police troopers found a body of man, woman, and two children a boy and a girl. investigators were called to the neighborhood. a mobile crime van was brought to the scene. detectives applied for an emergency search warrant to enter the home and gather evidence. >> the troopers that itially responded knew that it was an obvious -- appeared to be abobvious murder scene and it is procedure to secure the scene. make sure there is no further threat. and then get a search warrant go back in and properly possible tess scene. >> reporter: within hours, a crowd of neighbors gathered and shocked and bewildered by the scene. >> i have been here 42 years. this is the -- saddest thing i have seen. very close neighbors around

here. it is nothing violent, you know, around here. it has been happy family and it is really sa >> reporter: this investigation is just beginning. investigators will go through the family's financial history and medical history, and they t history of their relationships, trying to figure out what contributed to this. in mt. airy, maryland, jackie bensen. the man accused of plotting the biggs terror threat against the u.s. since 9/11 is in new york awaiting a court appearance early next week. najibullah zazi flew from denver to new york yesterday. then went to a jail in brooklyn. prosecutors say that zazi plan order blowing up new york commuter trains using hydrogen peroxide bombs. video shows him buying gallons of beauty supplies. his attorney says prosecutors lacked direct evidence that zazi was involved in bomb making. he says investigators found none of the materials in zazi's car. his colorado apartment or

apartment zazi visited in new york. the first responders in virginia and the district are putting themselves to the test. don't be concerned if you see a lot of emergency vehicles in a number of locations in northern virginia. including the crystal city area. it is part after large terror drill going on right now. megan mcgrath joins us live from crystal city with the latest. >> reporter: good morning. that's right. it is important to remember here that these are just drills. they are practice drills that simulate terrorist attacks in the area. one that's happening here in crystal city as you can see behind me is happening off after very remote section of sixth street. they did that to try to disrupt the area as -- as little as they had to. now, we can take a live picture from the city cam and should be able to see the area where the drill is about to get under way here. remote section near a stretch of train tracks and that's part of this simulated drill here that will be an incident b the track. now, these are full-scale exercises that are happening in our area. they are happening here in crystal city, fairfax county,

loudoun, prince william, the district of columbia today. and they are designed to be as realistic as possible and they real do in some cases look very real. so people don't panic here and if you seeome strange activity going on, let's take a look at video we shot a little while ago. it actually shows the simulation here, preparation for it in the crystal city area. we had all kinds of people participating who were wearing full makeup and in some case has ripped and charred clothing. they are acting as the victims in this simulation. we even have folks carrying around limbs as if they had lost limbs in the incident. in this particular scenario, they are simulating a bombing near the train tracks in this area. shrapnel apparently then hit a train that's passing by and carrying chemicals. it becomes a hazmat situation. and they also have a number of casualties, folks in the area that are injured and killed in this our area.

this is one of five drills taking place. designed to give first responders, ems and police personnel to practice their skills. >> we want to make it as realistic as possible so that when -- the real thing does happen, we are prepared for every eventuality. >> the role players that have had their wounds put on with makeup so it is realistic for the emergency personnel that are responding. because these are the types of things that they would see in a real situation. >> reporter: let's take a look at some of the areas where these drills are going to be taking place today. first of all, there is a drill here that's getting under way any time now at crystal city. rail tracks north of crystal city. there's also something happening at route 50, fairfax county parkway. they are going to actually use a box truck which is -- simulating the fact that it is loaded with bombs and chemicals. they are going to overturn that box truck and that one. there's also something a at dulles green way, park and ride.

at 19th street, washington, d.c., northwest, they are going to be closing a section of 19th down between k and i while they conduct a drill there. now, obviously, we all remember what happened on 9/11 where there was an emergency drill held on the potomac river. folks didn't know about it. there was a bit of a scare with response -- with regard to that. they are handing out flyers to all the areas, residents and businesses, telling them of what is going on in this area and really around the -- all of the simulations today. hopefully to avoid that kind of confusion here today. eun, back to you. >> busy morning. megan mcgrath. megan, thank you. a woman whose brother died met with libyan leader moammar gadhafi in new york city. she and other victim's relative arranged the meeting. they spent ten minutes with gadhafi who was attending the u.n. general assembly. she said the libyan leader said

through an interpreter she was sorry for her loss. her brother was stationed in the army and coming home for christmas when the plane blew up, killing 270 people. now to the surprise showdown that took place at this week's g-20 summit. world leaders taking a stand after the discovery of a secret nuclear site in iran. the country's president responded to the accusations and president obama is stressing diplomacy. steve handelsman reports from the g-20 summit in pittsburgh. >> reporter: revelation of iran's nuclear secret rocked the g-20 economic summit in pittsburgh and prompted tough talk from the host. president obama. >> iran is on notice that when we meet with them on october 1st, they are going to have to come clean or will they continue down a path that is going to lead to confrontation? >> reporter: u.s. officials say the once secret iranian plant is underground and almostid to start purifiure i don't know yum at the rate of two atom bombs a year. western intelligence learned

and then we will know. steve handelsman, news4, pittsburgh. we have new information this morning on the investigation into the city's taxi industry. the probe extends beyond one man who has been arrested. a man taken into custody on bribery chges. he is accused of accepting cash and other gifts promoting interest of the taxi industry. graham who isn't accused of any wrongdoing has canceled a public hearing here next week on a bill that will impact taxis and he maintains the action has no influence on the bill. now we are being told investigators are looking at a possible pattern of possible payoffs dating back more than a year. we will have more on this story and bring you more information as it comes in. in other news now, you may not have to way much longer to receive the swine flu vaccine. the first batches should be arriving in some dock's office as week from monday. the initial batch will protect 6 million 207 million people with

today is national public land day. nation's largest hands-on volunteer effort to improve and enhance public land. a number of projects in the d.c. area will be held at the historic water gatd steps next to the potomac river and near the lincoln memorial. projects willccur from 9:30 a.m. to noon. volunteers needed for national mall and memorial park. president's park, rock creek park, and volunteers on the site will prune trees, clear invasive plant feces, remove trash and create mulch use order the

trying to laugh off what could have been a serious accident. conan o'brien hit his head during a stunt while taping last night's show. nbc is not commenting on his condition. the injury doesn't appear to have hurt o'brien's sense of humor. he released a statement in which he jokes, the last thing i remember i was enjoying the play with mrs. lincoln and the next thing i knew, i was in bed being

has been a while. august 22nd. it has been about six weeks since we had a really heavy rain day around here. and today and tonight i suspect we may get well over an inch of rain. between the time now and this time tomorrow morning. 61 in frederick, maryland. 62 in hagerstown. little cooler in martinsburg. we had a few sprinkles in the panhandle of west virginia this morning. wincheer had a raindrop or two. most of the metro area at this point in time remains dry. here is a check of doppler and sigh the few lonely sprinkles now rolling through northern parts of loudoun county and folks towards poolesville and southern frederick county. maybe a sprinkle in the next little while. by and large most of the rain is still a long ways away. there's industrial strength rain now across parts of kentucky and tennessee. that massive range is headed directly for us. it will be arriving here late this afternoon and early this evening. and the hardest of the rains will come down mainly during the overnight hours tonight. be ready for a pretty heavy rain event late tonight into early morning hours tomorrow. temperatures right now, 50s and 60s around the mid atlantic.

73 in atlanta where their dew point ist 72. 66, dew point in cincinnati right now. that's indicative of how much moisture there is in the atmosphere and all of that moisture has to come right through here before it leaves the east coast and leaves us with a dry finish to our sunday afternoon. there is the satellite view and you can see the heavy rain now moving through portions of kentucky and headed into western west virginia. for now, high pressure is in charge. as it continues to move further away it will allow the moisture to come back in and by 8:00 tonight, nearly everybody should have had their first raindrop by 8:00 tonight. steady rains overnight tonight. easily could get three-quarters of an inch to an everyone of rain during the overnight hours tonight. then tomorrow as that lower pressure moves away we will quickly return back to decent weather for a finish on sunday. another little chance of a shower by monday afternoon. all right. all-important seven-day forecast. yes, indeed. 60s today. upper 07s tomorrow. most of the rain tomorrow should be done by 10:00 in the morning, leaving us with a pleasant sunday afternoon.

maryland home. police found the bodies of four family members in a mt. airy home last night. two of the dead were children. investigators have not released their ages. officers are investigating the crime as a murder/suicide. police came to the house after hearing from a concerned friend who hadn't heard from the family in a few days. neighbors are stunned. >> i have been here 42 years. and this is the -- saddest thing i have seen. very close neighbors around here. it is nothing violent around here. it has been a happy family. it is really sad. >> police plan on looking at the family's finances, medical history, and relationships with each other as they try to determine how and why this tragedy happened. pressure is continuinto build on iran a after the revelation this the country may have a secret nuclear facility. president obama joined other leaders of other g-20 nations yesterday in calling for iranian president ahmadinejad to come

clean about his country's nuclear capabilities. last night u.n. secretary general moon made some of his strongest statements yet during a meeting with ahmadinejad. president obama said new sanctions are likely but how tough the sanctions are depend how willing iran is during talks next week. he says diplomacy should be the first course of action. accused swindler alan stanford is in the hospital after getting into a fight with a federal inmate. sanford's injuries aren't life threatening and is expected to be taken back to jail. he will be kept apart from the other inmates. he has been in custody in june. he was indicted on 21 counts in an alleged $7 billion pzi scheme. frustrated parents upset over a plan to shut down a school that serves special needs children from the district. the timing of the decision has many puzzled. darcy spencer has our report. >> the more people you have, the stronger your voice. >> dozens of parents angry the

district plans to yank their special needs children from a special needs school in washington met to figure out a plan to fight back. >> i refuse to let them close accotink. accotink is the best for our kids. that's where my child is going to stay. >> reporter: the district plans to pull 170 students from the accotink academy in springfield and place them in other schools. officials say that they are concerned about the quality of education the students are receiving. the district pays about $10 million a year to accotink for education services. >> the teachers are awesome. they help us with every little thing. and it is just -- they should stay open. >> reporter: expressed support for the school. they say they want proof accotink isn't meeting their children's needs. >> accotink is a good school. if it wasn't, my son never would have been there for the ten years he had been there. >> reporter: some parents were puzzled over the timing of the plan, just weeks after the start school. >> i think this is crazy that you waited until after school started and i think this is crazy that you did not inform the school, have the school

one or two showers very light showers now moving into western montgomery county. southern frederick and out of northern loudoun county. poolesville. along 270 there. maybe a few light showers here first thing this morning. and another batch of rain towards charlottesville and harrisonburg the lion's share of the heavy rain waiting for for tonight is now across parts of eastern kentucky and moving into western west virginia. that whole blob of rain is coming our way for the overnight hours tonight. be ready for a very rainy saturday night. fairly wet start to your sunday as well. high pressure giving way and moving off the eastern seaboard allowing the big plume of moisture now to come up out the gulf of mexico. heavy rains now across kentucky and tennessee. and that's all part of that area of low pressure that's moving our way. dry start but a wet finish today. and heaviest of the rain will come overnight tonight and into the early morning hours of tomorrow. everybody should be wet by 8:00 this evening. the heaviest rains ending around 8:00 tomorrow morning. and then a little bit of improvement by mid to late

morning tomorrow and then believe it or not, by sunday afternoon, a west wind makes for the return of sunshine. probably between 1 and 1 1/2 inches of rain today. college football forecast the hurricanes coming to blacksburg, 3:30 today. rain and 60 degrees. hopefully that will favor the home team hokies for a victory. rutgers is in college park, maryland. temperatures only near 67 degrees. western kentucky is in annapolis to play maef. 67 degrees and mainly cloudy skies and iowa hawkeyes come to state college pennsylvania to take on the nittany lions, 8:00 game tonight and will be chilly and rainy. 7-day forecast for the next couple of days. rain, heaviest overnight tonight into early tomorrow. and another chance of some showers on monday afternoon and evening time frame. tuesday and wednesday, everything is looking like it is going to dry out quite nicely and feel a little bit more like october with temperatures highs only in the 60s for tuesday and wednesday and a little sunshine to finish out the week. one of the best things going on around town is the national book festival. eun yang has more details on

>> reporter: we brought you here because i know you are a big hockey guy. i want to ask you about a food. a food you love, canadian. tell me about it. what is it? >> a lot of times you will see it from, i guess, what i call fried -- like a -- a van that drives around with food in it, french fries, burgers. back home a lot of times you will see french fries, cheese kurd on top and beef gravy on top of that. >> tell me about your love for hockey. i know you are a big capitals fan. >> growing up, hockey a big deal. big part of my life. >> did you play growing up? tell me about that. when did you play and what was -- >> i started at the age of 3. >> really? >> first year where i learned to skate. i figure skated. i didn't have -- i didn't have

women's figure skates. i didn't have a toe pick. >> i was going say. >> i didn't. but -- from there, started playing hockey and -- really that kind of -- i played up until the time i went to school in bowling green. >> the life of a kicker, though is very uncertain, isn't it? >> sure is. this year, i guess going through camp, competing at camp, realizing how fragile it can be and how importa this -- being the particular redskins to me is. i'm appreciative and happy to be back here and hope that i have another five years. >> you seem so -- focused on that, the competition was going on. there had to have been times where the pressure becomes really tough. >> you know you are competing with other guys around the league. when youave to share the locker room and things like that, just -- it is an uncomfortable situation for me.

i actually -- i actually hated it. i understand it is part of the job. i mean, a lot of people that -- want my job. it is understandable. >> what's that like when you are going up, walking up to make a field goal attempt? what's going through your mind, that moment? >> it is actually -- it is something that is hard for me to describe. but -- but i do know that if i prepare properly, i feel confident and comfortable in that situation. when you get in that situation, where -- i think that -- happening now and independent on the situation, it could be, you know, a -- what could be the pressure situation. but really, it is all about preparation and trusting in the guys that you are working with. danny smith is great with it. we go through every possible situation. there's no situation on the football field that i'm ever going to be in that i -- hasn't been in before. practiced. or succeeded at. >> my thinking is that wow, what's he feel like right now? as he's walking off the field.

what's that? >> it is a weird feeling because -- you wish you could just line back up and you know to make the next kick, you wish you could do that. you wish you had four downs. but you don't. that's why -- you know, it is so critical, especially when we are not scoring a lot of points that make those kicks. i know how important they are. it is hard to -- it is hard to work it but i think a strength of mine is being able to let that bad kick or miss go. for me to kick really any field goal. it is simple. and i should make every kick. but that doesn't mean you do. >> that's lindsay czarniak reporting. family now with a great story and a big car repair bill. a mississippi woman driving to work went right into a sinkhole when she didn't show up at the office, co-workers called her out. her daughter went look for her and wound up in the same sinkhole. you see those two cars on top of each other? well, at least she was able to call 911.
