our own lindsay czarniak broke this story. >> she joins us on the phone now with the very latest. thanks for joining us. what can you tell us about when this happened and how it happened? >> as eun said that jim zorn has been let go, it happened early this morning upon the team's return from san diego. the team landed around 2:00 a.m. and i'm told zorn was packing up his things with team officials waiting for him there at redskins park. so, wha we know from being in san diego with the team last night is that they had scheduled an 11:00 a.m. player availability for this morning. they also have scheduled an 11:30 meeting that players assumed would be zorn's address of the team and then zorn himself was scheduled to have his availability, which he always does at 12:25, which i
5:04 am
said is his normal time. it's not expected and likely he'll be back in the building after leaving or if he already left this morning. so, that's the latest. >> lindsay, any idea when we might hear about a new coach for the redskins? >> i think that's the million dollar question. obviously, rumors have been swirling for so long about this. and i wouldn't say that it's out of the realm of possibility that something, you know, could be released as soon as today but then again, depending on, you know, which candidate they would decide to go with, it could be something that also takes a while because of other factors that the team you know, has to think about as far as if there would be other possibilities out there for a candidate and the big name that is being reported out there is mike shanahan, that's the leading candidate, former broncos coach. if it happens it could be any time, this week or later down the road. it's really unclear. >> lindsay, were bruce allen and dan snyder out in san diego for
5:05 am
this game? >> they were in san diego. they were. i spoke to another person who said there had not been a deal done. that was as of yesterday in san diego with another candidate, meaning, you know, with shanahan. if there have been talks with people as has been reported as well up until that point i was told there was not anything officially done. could there have been something between now that would allow them to introduce somebody tomorrow sure that's a possibility. they were there. it was an interesting vibe. jim zorn, one thing you can say, he has handled all the questions and he has handled the scrutiny so well and even in his post-game press conference after the disappointing loss last night, he was asked the question right away about his job security and he said he had not been contacted about it. so he was pressing forward as though he was still going to be the head coach of this team and then after that press conference he did talk to everybody in the local media and, you know, shook
