the death toll continues to climb in chile. pacific island nations brace for a possible tsunami. i'm craig melvin. we'll get to that story in a moment. first, a brutal abduction of a woman. police have arrested a man in connection to a different crime but believe he could be connected to this crime. darcy, i just understand they just identified a suspect? >> reporter: yes. george torres is crged with robbery and abduction, an incident that happened in arlington a couple of weeks ago,

but a strong suspect in this morning's abduction and sexual assault. we are told he is an active duty marine a woman who was abducted, beaten and sexually asauled was dumped here in prince william county. she somehow was able to seek help and get to a hospital. >> it's obviously very disturbing and raises a lot of concerns. i have a niece that goes to the bus stop right up the street. >> being this close to home is scary. you have to pay attention to who is out there. >> reporter: it started in this 600 block of wakefield. a man with a gun forced two women into a house and tied them up. he made one of the women get into his car and drove her to prince william county. at some point she was sexually assaulted. >> she was seriously injured and

left in prince william county by the suspect. she regained consciousness and made it to a roadway where she contacted pris for help. >> reporter: this is a composite sketch of a suspect that could connected. the man robbed a woman at gun point in arlington on february 10th. police say it could be the same gunman who abducted the women this morning. >> a strong possibility it could be the same suspect. >> reporter: this ce has frightened many. >> horrifying to think that could happen on my street to two girlts that are just walking home. >> reporter: a u.s. marine has been arrested in connection with an abduction and robbery that happened a couple of weeks ago in arlington. he is a suspect in the abduction of the women and sexual assault that ended in prince william county. he is being processed by arlington county police. darcy spencer, news 4.

>> darcy, thank you. a small plane went down in an arundel county killing a man inside around 4:30 this afternoon in edge water. the single engine plane crashed into a neighborhood half a mile from lee airport. crews arrived to find the plane in the yard of a house on warehouse creek lane. the fire did not spread to the home. witnesses ran to the crash to try to help. >> what i did, i was sitting in the family room. it sounded like a crash, a big boat falling from 20 feet hitting the water and i looked out into the water and saw a big wave lik something hit the water. i thought that is really strange. then i went over and looked through the window and i saw the -- there was something in the tree on fire and the whole tree was on fire. >> investigators are still trying to figure out what caused that plane to go down.

now to the latest on the devastating earthquake that rocked chile. the 8.8 earthquake collapsed billions, homes, landmarks, and bridges. hundreds are still missing tonight. george lewis has that story. >> reporter: surveillance cameras caught the moment the earthquake hit at 3:34 this morning, the ground shaking and shaking and shaking for a minute and a half, that seemed like an eternity to the 3 million people in chile. when it was over there was this, in the capital santiago, buildings toppled. according to the housing minister half a million homes destroyed or severely damaged across the country. highways buckled and torn up. bridges destroyed, only a few pilings left standing, cars tossed around like toys. i don't know how i got out, this man said. but the building just fell.

there was a gas leak and efg. the gas leaks and shorted electric lines set off fires. >> it got bigger and more intense. >> reporter: a freelance journalist spoke to us over a skype video. >> the sky was changing colors. i didn't know what was happening. i thought it was armageddon. royal chile is a seismically active country, so they have practiced for this. chilean president michelle bachelet says there is no water, no electricity and very little gasoline. she called it a state of catastphe. >> the united states plems to assist in rescue and recovery and we have resources to deploy

seaworld reopened to the public today but noticeable changes to its killer whale show. a trainer drown when a whale pulled her under. hundreds packed the amphi theater for the first show since the attack. trainers are no longer allowed in the tank with whales. two planes collided on the tarmac at reagan national around 9:30 this morning. the two us airways clipped wings while taxiing. one flight was headed to ft. lauderdale. the other plane just arrived from laguardia. it had to be taken out of service completely. fortunately no one was hurt. officials are trying to figure out who or what may be responsible for the collision. the ongoing mystery surrounding the whereabouts of

d.c.'s snow melter may be over. it has been spotted in action. news 4 cameras caught this video clearing streets at 10th street today. they bought that snow melter for $120,000 in 2003. it was not used in the record snowstorms. city officials said it was broken, tough to operate, not worth using. the city has not called us back tonight. after the break, we head to vancouver where bode miller skis in his final quest for gold. we are not out of the woods yet, folks. we could see more snow this week.

what's this you say, chuck bell, about more snow coming this way? >> we have a chance for more snow. snow flakes flying in western maryland, not part of the next system. the next is arriving tuesday night/wednesday time frame. on your saturday night, partly cloudy skies, nearly full moon overhead. temperatures topped off in the mid to high 40s, back in the upper 30s. 39 at national airport with a west wind at five miles an hour. we had a little snow. it ended up exactly a trace, most of it fell between 3:30 to 4:00 this morning on my drive into work.

the mid 30s in fairfax, loudoun county, 36 in manassas, 36 in baltimore. earlier i showed you the picture of the crocuses coming up. this is western maryland, garrett county. so far for the winter now, 256 inches of snow and it is still coming down. oakland, maryland, has had 36 inches of snow. oakland is in far western maryland. the snow flakes dropping southbound out of pennsylvania. one or two may make it to the washington area, but it won't be an accumulating snow. conversational snow flakes for late tonight and into the day tomorrow the main area of low pressure spinning its wheels in new york, pennsylvania. moisture coming off the great lakes and wrapped around from the atlantic ocean on to the

let's look at what happened today. firmly the team was called usa one. steve holcombe and his crew called the sled the night train. they rode the mountain like it was riding on rockets. they claimed a bobsled medal for the first time since an american team won in st. mar ritz in 1948. tomorrow the last event, marquee matchup, u.s.nd canada face each other in the men's hockey final. whatever the outcome, the united states is assured of leaving vancouver on top of the medal count. for team canada the nation's hockey pride is, of course, on the line. elsewhere today, speedskater chad hedrick and his u.s. teammate took a silver in the team pursuit. for chad hedrick it was a big moment. he leaves vancouver with two olympic medals. he now has, craig, five medals in five different events.
