world. >> after those words yesterday, we go to aaron gilchrist with more on this case. >> reporter: it was a very short hearing but it provided a lot of detail about what happened, lot of new information for us at the hearing today. about what led up to the deaths of five people that is inclusive of the four people in the drive-by shooting march 30th and jordan howe killed on march 22nd. let's begin with what happen by the first two suspects. 21-year-old robert. according to the prosecutor and charging documents he is charged particularly with the murder of tavon nelson. according to the documents, nelson was the first to die on march 30th and did not happen during that drive-by shooting. rather he was shot by two suspects prior to the drive-by and those two suspects, got into a silver minivan with the other suspects, proceeded to that

scene on south capitol street and are accused of being a part of the shooting that happened there as well. but, again, charged originally with the murder of nelson and then with that drive-by shooting that happened just a few minutes later on south capitol street. the second suspect charged today, 21-year-old lamar williams, he was not in that minivan that was seen at that drive-by shooting and chased from the drive-by shooting on south capitol street. instead we are told that he provided the shotgun, according to the charging documents, provided the shotgun, in the jordan howe murder march 22 and provided the ak-47 in the drive-by shooting that happened on march 30th on south capitol street. he has been charge with several counts of murder as well. he has representation in the courtroom today. his girlfriend was in the courtroom and would not identify herself but we did catch her as she was leaving the courthouse today. here is what she had to say. >> anything you wouldn't say for

him? or to him? >> i love him and he is a good man. he is not guilty of anything. >> reporter: he does stand accused of murder. several counts of murder now. we should also note the numbers are getting a little hard to sort of keep organized here. we look at this case. there are four suspects now in custody charged in this drive-by shooting on march 30th, south capitol street. some of them also charged in the murder of jordan howe, march 22nd. fifth suspect that d.c. police chief lanier talked about yesterday afternoon. the charging documents identified that fifth suspect as jeff are you best. and according to these documents, again, he -- was also one of the two people who shot nelson and participated in the drive-by shooting that happened on south capitol street later. that's the latest from here outside the d.c. courthouse. as we con to sort of comb through the documents and see if there is any more information come the light we will stay on

top of the story throughout the day and more coming up tonight on "news4 at 11:00." >> there are a lot of names and lot of details it is a case continues to evolve. aaron gilchrist, thanks very much. arlington today, the police are looking for a cull of armed car robbers. armored car. happened earlier this afternoon on south bell street. just outside of crystal city metro station. police say a robber sprayed something in a security guard's face and grabbed a bag of money and jump flood a getyou a way vehicle. pat collins has our report. >> reporter: it is what you may call an out-of-the-way armored car robbery at a busy place. this is the crystal city underground. down there, a metro station. and then there are blocks and blocks of stores and restaurants and a few atms. but up there, above ground when this happened, it is quiet.

on the of out of the way. almost lonesome. >> in the middle of all the security, all of the military, and this is happening in daylight. >> reporter: this is where it happened. bell street crystal city. not exactly a main thoroughfare. brinks truck parked right here. guard gets out with a big bag of money. he is going downstairs to service one of those atms. a roche comes along spray something in the guard's face and gets distra. the robber picks up the bag of money and car comes down the street. the robber gets in the car and -- off they go. >> dangerous world we live in these days. crazy people. >> reporter: police surrounded the place. looking for clues, looking for witnesses. trying to figure out how this man with the mace pulled it off. >> i would say it happened within a matter of minutes.

and he was in the car and left. >> reporter: how much money did they get? >> that we do not know. >> reporter: in the underground, people not so happy about what happened top side in crystal city. >> that's scary. we have to be more proactive. >> that's unusual. we don't usually see violence in crystal city. >> reporter: people are desperate these days and doing the wrong things. hopefully they will find them and prosecute them. >> reporter: police are working the case but so far, no suspects. no money bag. no money. i'm pat collins. news4, arlington. >> the police are still looking for the getaway car. they say it is a dark colored jeep. a police stand-off in northwest washington ended peacefully this afternoon. four people were taken into custody and questioned. ordeal started at 9:00 a.m. at the corner of 8th and decatur

streets that lasted three hours. neighbors told police they saw a man grab a woman by the hair and drag her into a home. there were reports of shots fired in the area p. dozens of police and s.w.a.t. teams is your oumded the house and eventually got inside. two men and two women in the home were taken into custody and are being questioned now. so far, nobody has been charged yet. there are new fears tonight that oil rig workers who disappeared after that explosion in the gulf of mexico this week will not be found alive. this comes as officials try to prevent major environmental disaster. 11 workers are missing and feared dead from tuesday's explosion. the coast guard says the oil sheen from the rig is expanding but no more oil is leaking from the rig which sank yesterday. jay gray joins us now live with more. >> reporter: when that -- within the last few minutes we have gotten word that so many had feared. the coast guard ended the rescue effort here. it is now moving to involve are

you. those 11 missing crew members are, in fact, presumed dead. on the environmental side as you talk about briefly there, a storm moved through the area today. delivering heavy a run, higher seas. that's actually some good news. lit help to dissipate the spill. unfortunately, it is the only positive coming at the accident site now. this afternoon crews continue their work to contain an oil slick a mile long and five miles wide floating in the gulf. >> to this point we have avoided a major catastrophe and we hope that we can avert it. >> reporter: there's still some concern about what may be going on below the surface. after the deep horizon rig collapsed and sank yesterday afternoon. >> it is going to have a significant impact on the ecosystem. ecosystem which helps us produce the -- cuisine new orleans is famous for. the oysters and shrimp rely on a healthy ecosystem. >> reporter: recovery teams have already started the long and difficult process of removing the debris and they are still watching for any signs.

wall street closed out the week at the highest point in a year and a half. dow and the nasdaq both have had eight positive weeks in a row. that's the longest streak since january of 2004. today the dow jones average closed up nearly 70 points. ended the week at 11,204. the nasdaq closed up 11 points. it closed at 2530. the s&p 500 closed up 8 points and finished at 1217. some of those who are opposed to the meetings of the international monetary fund here in d.c. this weekends protested in a rather unusual way today. they held a tug of war over a giant broken penny. protesters say it represents bankers taking money from low income people. a bank tax is up for consideration. many of the banks oppose the tax. the tax will go towards health care and job creation around the world. some people today were on

stilts to rep what they say is bankers towering over people affected by the financial crisis. those imf meetings could make it tougher to get around the city this weekend. there are several street closures around the imf and the world bank buildings. those closures include 18th through 20th streets near g. the closures begin at 7:30 tonight ask run through 5:00 p.m. on sunday. in addition, there will be no parking on many streets in that area and until 6:00 monday morning. senior staff at the securities and exchange commission are accused of surfing the web for pornography while on the job. even worse, it happened during the peak of the financial crisis. according to the associated press the sec inspector general is investigating 31 cases over the past 2 1/2 years. in some of cases staffers visited ex-employees it websites up to eight hours a day at work. the sec says everyone implicated has been disciplined or in the process of being punished.

this afternoon, arizona governor jan brewer sign flood law the nation's toughest legislation against illegal immigration. measure president obama called misguided. it requires police to question people about their immigration status. if there is reason to suspect they are in the country illegally. leanne gregg has more on the arizona controversy that people here in washington are watching very closely. >> reporter: arizona governor jan brewer announcing her decision to sign into law a bill requiring law officers to stop arrest anyone suspected of being in the country illegally and says it is necessary because of the federal governor's failure to secure the mexican border. >> the bill i'm about to sign into law, senate bill 1070, represents another to use as we work to solve a crisis that we did not create and the federal governor has refused to fix. >> reporter: president obama at a naturalization ceremony the white house calling the measure misguided. >> in our failure to act

starting to get dry here over the last 30 days. temperatures are in the 70s a across the area. here you can see high pressure just to the north of us. this is what has been nosing south. but this warp front through west virginia, this is what has been making its way to the north and east. the warm front going to win out. it has already been winning out with high clouds back over the area. same front that's going to produce showers through the area tomorrow. and lit stall out right near the area. so it is scattered showers for us tomorrow and we are going to be on the cool side of this system. highs tomorrow in the low 60s. and then we will be on the other side of the front under here by time we get to sunday. warmth and have some of this stuff that has been going on down south the big storms we talked about, arkansas and through mississippi and through areas of eastern louisiana right now. and again, all part of a larger system that will get better organized over the next couple of days. before we take a look at our quiet radar, let me take you to clarendon, texas. this is north texas. got some video of tornadoes here

to show you where a series of tornadoes touched down yesterday afternoon. there were several -- captured on video. there are the texas and oklahoma border. now there were at least three of them confirmed, three confirmed reports, but there were no injuries which really is amazing. even when you look at the fact there are three reports out at eastern colorado, western kansas, down through areas of northern texas, that's just a testament to how well the warning system works, whether it is for severe thunderstorm warnings or tornado warnings. here is a look at the warmth through the nation's midsection and 70s and 80s. and what we seen is the juice for the storms so far this spring. that's the moisture. the dew point temperatures. they are high now. 63, st. louis. look at new orleans at 70 degrees. it is humid through this area. and again, just one reason why it is quite stormy, too with the dry air to the north and strong weather system that's making its way eastward. slight risk of severe thunderstorms and that includes

a child pornography investigation of prince william county led police to a very young suspect. back now with our top story for this half hour. >> investigators in prince william county believe a 16-year-old boy has been downloading and sending child porn on his computer. julie carey has our report. >> reporter: these are the search warrant documents that detail the investigation. conducted by a manassas police officer working with the internet crimes against children's task force. the probe began in february with a tip from the national center for missing and exploited children. for local task force investigator tracked a suspect

who was using the e-mail address boypantshalfoff at yahoo.com. police discovered numerous porn sent from that address and discovered the suspect was a 16-year-old boy. manassas police entered the home early this month and seize ad computer and drive. because the investigation continues, police can't yet talk about the case or say whether charges have been filed. at the center for missing and exploited children in alexandria, they can't discuss specific cases but say calls to the cyber tip line are on the rise. >> problem with child pornography on the internet exploded. it is found on websites and peer-to-peer environments. law enforcement, we have many, many well-trained investigators out there across the country. there's no shortage of cases. >> reporter: michelle collins says the numbers are headed up again this year. and she says investigators are seeing more cases involving

adolescents. >> when we see here at the child pornography investigation occurring across the country ask around the world there is no stereotypical offender. there is no stereotypical person who is being arrested. >> reporter: collins says parents need to be vigilant in finding out what their teens are accessing on line to make sure they don't become a source of the call to the center's cyber tip line. >> julie reports a young man that answered the door at the home in triangle today said he had nothing to say about the police investigation. a man died in his home in prince william county. investigators are trying to figure out what sparked the deadly fire that happened. it took place this afternoon in the 3300 block of nadia loop in dale city. 46-year-old azami. officials say a neighbor of the victim tried to save him but was unsuccessful. that neighbor was taken to a hospital to be treated for inhaling too much smoke.

crossing guards help make sure students make it safely to and from school but frederick county, maryland, is considering eliminating those crossing guard jobs and nearly a dozen schools. opponents claim that the budget cut could considers a dangerous line. john schriffen has our report. >> reporter: how important are these crossing guards to you? >> very important. entrust our children's safety to them. >> reporter: every day when school gets out hundreds of kids cross across the business intersection. they are protected by the crossing guards. in 2011, the budget kits looming, right now the crossing guards are on the chopping block. >> i think it is a terrible idea. find money in the budget for other things much less important than the children's safety. especially elementary school. there are kids everywhere. coming around the corner here, if you don't know it, you don't know there is a cross here. somebody needs to be here to help control the situation. >> reporter: in 2005, the frederick county sheriff's department started the crossing guard program currently has 19

crossing guards at 11 schools covering 15 locations. county sheriff, chuck jenkins, proposed to cut the program from the sheriff's budget next year and shift the $1222,000 price tag to the schools. school board member mike shaden says the sheriff's department should continue to handle this. >> this shift would mean we would have to reach out into the neighborhood and perform a funk that's previously been done by share police agencies. and we are just not very comfortable with that. >> reporter: sheriff's department depends the decision saying it is a transportation issue and not law enforce many. parents frustrated because this year the board of education decided to cut buses for families living less than a mile away from school. now with more kids and families out here walking the streets, parents say they don't know what they will do if the crossing guards aren't out here to protect them. >> it will take somebody getting hurt before it changes and there's no way we can -- we will have to drive our kids to school. >> reporter: more budget talks

vehicles, you are asked to contact your ford dealer >> airline that wants to charge you a fee for carry-on luggage in the bin above your head now has another way to get money. spirit airlines has bought two new planes with seats that do not recline. what that means is the seats are there closer together. there are more available seats to sell on each flight. the distance between the seats will be 28 inches. that's the tightest squeeze in the country. here's good news about our economy. sales of new homes surged last month. commerce department says the new sales home rose 28% from february's all-time low and biggest monthly increase in 47 years and bigger jump in the analysts expecting. now the question is if the reports signals a rebound for construction jobs or just a rush to take advantage of tax credits that expires at the end of the month. brian mooar has the report.

round draft pick for the washington redskins. first offensive lineman, the redskins drafted to on 2000. that man was the third overall pick for samuels and he's two trent williams is hoping he can replace. secretary and third rounds of the nfl draft are tonight. we are early on in the second round, another local kid just drafted. started dunbarton high school and played at the university of illinois. he is 39th overall pick. by tampa bay buccaneers. last night, a night to remember for another local guy. ft. washington native joe hayden, seventh overall pick by the browns. he was the top cornerback in the draft and went as high as, i think, expected. maybe even a little higher. hayden, star quarterback at friendly high school before heading to the university of florida where he started as a true freshman. very rare. three years later, top ten pick in the draft. he knows he saes 'going from one ravished fan base to another.

furry come pan wron to go get help and die fido runs off to the wilderness and brings back somebody to save the day. truth is better than fiction. because it happened. earlier this month in alaska, a guy named ben heinrich was there. he has a dog, german shepherd named buddy. they were in a workshop when the her ignited chemicals. heinrich was burn order his face. the place caught fire. heinrich looked at buddy and said buddy, we need to get some help. buddy took off and ran some distance to the main road and then watch this. from a state trooper's -- cam, buddy waited by the side of the road while a trooper's car approached and hauled off, twisting forking roads looking back every now and again to make sure that the cop was still there and led him right to the fire. is that not incredible? >> wow. >> can your dog do that? here is the best part. heinrich says, in his words, i never trained him or nothing. he took
