the men's lacrosse player who is charged with her murder. good evening. i'm doreen gentzler. >> and i'm jim advance. new details in this case. they found the victim, yeardley love. investigators are looking into reports that there were previous threats of violence. students on the college campus are reflecting on a tragic situation. >> reporter: on the university of virginia's picturesque lawn, candles glowed between the columns, a silent tribute to 22-year-old yeardley love. the university of virginia lacrosse player was found dead early monday morning. her former boyfriend, george huguely, faces a first-degree murder charge. student leaders who set up the candles refused comment. but this junior who is known huguely since their days at bethesda's landon school says he is stunned with court document that's say huguely viciously

attacked love causing her death. >> i've known george eight years. it just doesn't seem like anything that he's capable of. this whole thing seems to unreal almost. i didn't believe it at first. but now, you know, you saw the details came out. it's just, you know, i'm sort of in shock. >> reporter: the search warrant documents say huguely kicked in love's bedroom door, shook her, beating her head against the wall. love was found on her bed. her head in a pool of blood. her face bruised. despite that, huguely's attorney told reporters he'll show the death was an accident not murder. >> we're confident that miss love's death was not intended but an accident with a tragic outcome. >> reporter: charlottesville police chief says the continuing investigation is focused on the prior relationship between love and huguely. friends say there had been previous physical abuse. >> there had been no complaints

to the police. whether there had been complaints or discussions to others outside the law enforcement circle is certainly relevant to our discussion with friends and teammates. >> reporter: both the victim and the suspect were scheduled to graduate on this lawn in about three weeks. the george huguely's attorney says his client has withdrawn from the university of virginia but he'll be staying in town for the time being in a jail cell. news 4, charlottesville. and there is word tonight that both the men's and women's lacrosse teams at uva will finish their seasons. a high school paid tribute to her on the lacrosse field today. the notre dame prep growth lacrosse team put black tape on sticks. they wore orange ribbons in their hair and they wrote love's former number on their legs. now to a developing story in riverdale, maryland. a funeral home there has been ordered to close down after inspectors found piles of bodies in a garage. some of them were without name

tags. we have details. john? >> reporter: dor reen, families trust funeral homes to take care of their family members after they pass. but this funeral home did anything but. that reports say an inspector from the maryland state board of more tigss and funeral directors came to the funeral home for a surprise inspection and they made a shocking discovery. the state inspector found what looked like 40 bodies inside of body bags just simply piled on top of each other inside of the garage. now that pile was said to be about 12 by 12 feet high. reports say the bodies were supposed to be cremated but there is a crematorium here at the facility. we knocked on the door and got no response. we did reach out to the owner, bill chambers by phone who said he has no comment at this time about the investigation. now the owner did confirm that his license has been suspended and that his business will be allowed to complete any other funeral arrangements by friday.

and then his business will be shut down. now tonight we also reached -- we also reached out to riverdale park police who say they're not aware of any criminal investigations. meanwhile, the owner bill chambers, says he is cooperating with investigators and hopes to soon have the suspension lifted. that's the very latest from riv riverdale. back to you. we learn today that man accused the in attempted bombing in times square in new york attended college here in the district. he was more than ten yrs ago that he did so. since that time, faisal shahzad had moved to connecticut. that's why authorities thought they would arrest him last night. that arrest did not go off as expected. reporter jonathan dietze is in new york with more on this story. jonathan? >> reporter: the fbi and nypd were planning to raid the suspect's home in bridgeport, connecticut. but it turns out at that very moment he was en route to kennedy airport to try to board a flight back to his native

pakistan. it is there, officials say, where he previously had received bomb training. accused bomber faceal shahzad was driven away from the fbi's offices. the 30-year-old allegedly admits he is the one who built the car bomb and drove night times square. at his bridgeport home, officials say a day-long search uncovered evidence like fertilizer and fireworks, evidence similar to the components used in the bomb that did not explode. >> but all of that together, that lethal assembly, really made a very big hurt lock. >> in lengthy questioning, he calmly claims he acted alone. prosecutors say shahzad did travel to pakistan for bomb training. and investigators want to know more about the extremist he met with there as well as phone calls he made to pakistan in the weeks before the alleged plot. >> we're, of course, working with our law enforcement intelligence partners to uncover all possible ties this

particular individual has or may have had to radical creamism or terrorist organizations both at home and overseas. >> reporter: as of now, officials say one theory is that even though shahzad got help from others for bomb training, he returned here to carry out his own attack. >> we want to know as much as we can about his background, where he's gone, what he's done. >> reporter: some officials say his capture was a close call. but while the fbi and police were set to raid his bridgeport house, shahzad, meanwhile, was busy fleeing the jfk to hop a plane to dubai and then on to his native pakistan. but his name was on a no-fly list and custom agents were able to grab him from the plane before it took off. shahzad remains in custody. a court hearing expected to take place today did not. he could appear in that same federal courtroom tomorrow. in new york, jonathan dietze, jim, back to you.

there are serious questions being raised about the ability of an agency charged with rehabilitating troubled youth in the district. three teenagers in the murder of a popular school principal. jackie benson is in montgomery county at the courthouse where the teens appeared in court today. jackie? >> reporter: jim, drug charges, gun charges. the three suspects in custody for the murder of brian bets share a disturbing history. officials confirm that the three teens, all 18 years old, all walked away from the supervision of the district's department of youth rehabilitation services known as dyrs when they were younger. johnny walker is president of the union that represents the caseworkers charged with the supervising d.c.'s juvenile offenders. >> i've been working with young people since i was 19. so for over 30 years and for the first time in -- ever i pause

when the sun sets thinking about whether i want to travel any street in d.c. >> reporter: walker estimate there's are 800 young offenders in the drys system, some on home detention, some in halfway ho e hous houses, 60 in custody at the new beginnings facility. there are currently 27 social workers hand willing all of those cases. >> they're outruled by management because there's a push to get these kids out of security. there is nowhere to put them. you just built a $46 million facility with only 60 beds. >> reporter: court papers outline a plan in which they used a phone sex chat line set up the 42-year-old bets for a robbery that tusrned into a murder. the suspect admitted to police he was in bets' silver spring home at the time of the homicide. items found during the search warrant will be examined to determine if they came from other crimes.

fnchts you watch "parenthood," lauren graham rose to fame in movies and the tv show "gilmore girls." before she became a popular tv mom, she got her start in northern virginia where her family still lives. aaron gilchrist sat down with her proud father at his office in georgetown.

>> if you don't change that attitude, it may come to that. >> reporter: meet daughter and single mother and very large, very colorful, very imperfect family on the hit drama "parenthood." she is brought to life every week by actress lauren gram. >> we're really trying to capture what a real family sounds like. they have three cameras. we improvise. we talk all over each other. as the shows evolve, it has a nice reality to it. it sounds like, you know, family. >> reporter: doesn't quite sound like the real family. but her dad larry does see his daughter in the character she brings to life. >> i've seen her in different places. i think you were the best one. and i mean it. but i'm her dad. >> a dad who's been there, every step of the way. lauren moved to northern virginia with her father as a child and at a young age learned the power of theater in the play houses of washington, d.c. >> we would go to theater just because it was something i liked to do and she liked to do. puppet shows at the smithsonian and all that.

>> reporter: she lit up the stage at langley high school as a teenager. >> her senior year, she was dolly in "hello dolly." but even then, i didn't have any idea this was going to be a career for her. >> reporter: but that it has become. and by 43 years old, she has braced the grat white way in "guys and doll," signed a seven figure development deal with nbc, starred in the immensely popular "gilmore girls" that ran for seven seasons and plays a single mom in "parenthood" and lauren is still gracious when fans approach her on the street and she hasn't forgotten her roots. >> my dad, stepmom, brother and sister are all in the d.c. area. most of my dear friends from high school are in d.c. and virginia and maryland. it's a great place to grow up. >> reporter: tv star, movie star, broadway star, it's all dimmed by the twinge will in dad's eye. he's a proud father of lauren. just lauren. >> she was a first grade teacher

produced severe weather in the flooding across areas of tennessee, kentucky and northern mississippi. that same front finally making its way off the coast. but around pembrook pines, two inches of rain. so a front finally moving on. another powerful system, and there will be a couple systems making their way across areas of pennsylvania and new york. all we're going to get from it are a few clouds. the air just too dry to produce anything around us. the next chances of seeing a front zipping through here will be on thursday. so we'll go from mostly sunny to partly sunny skies. really two dry days coming our way. there could be isolated severe weather coming our way. 8:00, 9:00 p.m., that's the time period to watch. so we'll keep our eye on that next strong system headed our way. for the morning, it's going to be a cooler start for us. your high temperature tomorrow, back to 80. but, again, it's a comfortable

president obama signed a disaster declaration for tennessee this evening. that will help that flood ravaged state get federal aid. storms killed 28 people across tennessee, mississippi, and kentucky. rescuers are afraid they may find more victims outside of downtown nashville. damage is becoming more visible as the waters begin to recede. some landmarks are still flooding. it will be at least three months before the opryland hotel complex can reopen. the fda said today that bacteria ridden products were used to make several popular children's medicines that are now being recalled. the fda says the finished products have not shown signs of contamination. but parents should still throw out the products in question

including children's tylenol, motrin, ben drill and zertach. they all come from one pennsylvania manufacturing plant. officials recommend parents buy generic substitutes for those recalled drugs. drum cadence and bagpipes set the tone for some observance in washington to kick off national police week. hundreds of officers lined the streets around st. patrick's church in northwest. washington archbishop led a blue mass service in which prayers were offered for the safety of law enforcement and public safety officers. the names of nine officers who died in the area last year were read allowed at the end of that
