berry. 30-year-old pakistani american faisal shahzad has admitted to rigging a home made bomb at time square. and eric holder says the suspect has been providing valuable information to investigators as they seek to determine the scope of the plot. nbc's tracie potts joins us live from washington with the latest. tracie, good morning. >> reporter: lynn, good morning. officials say this terror suspect has been talking, that he's been talking much of the 24 hours since his arrest and he's been giving information. apparently he has admitted to training at a terrorist camp in pakistan where he's from. that's his native country. apavemently, he says, he trained there, but they still don't know exactly what his ties to terror groups might be or what they are. now, interestingly faisal shahzad raised few if any red

flags in the community in the two connecticut towns where he lived. local police say they had no contact with him. neighbors say that he appeared to be quiet. they talked about his family, his children. but no red flags that he would be involved in anything like this. now, in terms of him getting on that flight, there's a lot of scrutiny about how he was able to board that flight and literally be on that plane about to take off when he had been placed on a no-fly list earlier in the day. apparently he bought a ticket at the airport, hung around, paid cash and that's going to bring a lot of scrutiny here in washington as they try to figure out how he almost slipped through the tracks. lynn? >> all right. tracie potts, thank you so much. elsewhere in the gulf of mexico, officials say the weather has improved enough that more containment equipment can be brought in to try to contain the massive oil spill in the

gulf coast. krit endahlgren is live with the latest. >> reporter: good morning, lynn. you can see the shrimp boats behind me. the fishermen say that's all they can do is try to help with the containment efforts. some of the oily sheen has started to make it to shore here in louisiana and it's suggested that over the next 24 hours or so the thicker oil may begin to make it here. that said noaa also reports a product has been made. one was able to capture one of three leaks, but certainly not the biggest one and they say some 200,000 gallons of oil poured into the gulf. we talked about the effort to build the boxes and try to cap the well and the leaks. the first of the boxes has now been deployed, making its way out to the rig, but they say it could be at least a week before that's in place and no guarantee that that will work either.

so work continues on a relief well, and here, just efforts to get those containment booms out as quickly as possible, lynn. >> krit teabout three hikers in georgia were pulled to safety after becoming stranded in a river knew the top of a waterfall with a 30-foot drop. rescue teams who pulled the group safely to shore say they've had to make rescues in the same site at the past. in texas, police cruiser dash cam video shows two youngsters traveling at 90 miles per hour in their mom's car before being pulled over and taken into police custody. pennsylvania firefighters responding to a house fire discovered a dog named rocky trapped inside. they quickly pulled him to safety and treated him where he was found to be in good condition.

same. we have a weather pattern without any huge storms. that's good. here come as cold shot of air. it's only 41 in denver, 33 in billings. so if you're in the northern plains, the weather's changed. it definitely feels like early spring, not summer. we have a little bit of rain, not a lot but showers continuing along this front. it will be warm today. south texas could see it in the mid to upper 90s. if you're in des moines, ames, miriam, dubuque, washington, kenosha down to davenport, you'll see showers. otherwise it looks like a beautiful day through the mid-atlantic and down through the deep south. just son afternoon storms in orlando. that's a look at the national forecast. now here's a look at the weather outside your window. temperatures are going to be on the warm side today. philadelphia, 82 degrees. what a great spring.
