berry. 30-year-old pakistani american faisal shahzad has admitted to rigging a home made bomb at time square. and eric holder says the suspect has been providing valuable information to investigators as they seek to determine the scope of the plot. nbc's tracie potts joins us live from washington with the latest. tracie, good morning. >> reporter: lynn, good morning. officials say this terror suspect has been talking, that he's been talking much of the 24 hours since his arrest and he's been giving information. apparently he has admitted to training at a terrorist camp in pakistan where he's from. that's his native country. apavemently, he says, he trained there, but they still don't know exactly what his ties to terror groups might be or what they are. now, interestingly faisal shahzad raised few if any red

flags in the community in the two connecticut towns where he lived. local police say they had no contact with him. neighbors say that he appeared to be quiet. they talked about his family, his children. but no red flags that he would be involved in anything like this. now, in terms of him getting on that flight, there's a lot of scrutiny about how he was able to board that flight and literally be on that plane about to take off when he had been placed on a no-fly list earlier in the day. apparently he bought a ticket at the airport, hung around, paid cash and that's going to bring a lot of scrutiny here in washington as they try to figure out how he almost slipped through the tracks. lynn? >> all right. tracie potts, thank you so much. elsewhere in the gulf of mexico, officials say the weather has improved enough that more containment equipment can be brought in to try to contain the massive oil spill in the

gulf coast. krit endahlgren is live with the latest. >> reporter: good morning, lynn. you can see the shrimp boats behind me. the fishermen say that's all they can do is try to help with the containment efforts. some of the oily sheen has started to make it to shore here in louisiana and it's suggested that over the next 24 hours or so the thicker oil may begin to make it here. that said noaa also reports a product has been made. one was able to capture one of three leaks, but certainly not the biggest one and they say some 200,000 gallons of oil poured into the gulf. we talked about the effort to build the boxes and try to cap the well and the leaks. the first of the boxes has now been deployed, making its way out to the rig, but they say it could be at least a week before that's in place and no guarantee that that will work either.

so work continues on a relief well, and here, just efforts to get those containment booms out as quickly as possible, lynn. >> krit teabout three hikers in georgia were pulled to safety after becoming stranded in a river knew the top of a waterfall with a 30-foot drop. rescue teams who pulled the group safely to shore say they've had to make rescues in the same site at the past. in texas, police cruiser dash cam video shows two youngsters traveling at 90 miles per hour in their mom's car before being pulled over and taken into police custody. pennsylvania firefighters responding to a house fire discovered a dog named rocky trapped inside. they quickly pulled him to safety and treated him where he was found to be in good condition.

and in iowa, the blank park zoo is recommending its newest member, a baby camel. it weighed 90 pounds at birth and measured 4 feet tall. he doesn't have a name yet. the zoo is holding a name contest and is taking suggestions on the website. and now here's a look at some other stories making news and now for a look at your national and regional weather, here's nbc meteorologist bill karins with the weather channel forecast. >> he only has one hump. don't they have two humps? we'll think of something. let's talk about what's going on weatherwise. good morning, everyone. yesterday we had only one tornado but it did do some damage there in wisconsin, and that was about it. in other storms we had a lot of those windy storms, thunderstorms that rolled through areas of new england. there was some wind damage out in albany, connecticut, massachusetts, and just outside of boston. but overall pretty quiet severe weather day. today's going to be more of the

same. we have a weather pattern without any huge storms. that's good. here come as cold shot of air. it's only 41 in denver, 33 in billings. so if you're in the northern plains, the weather's changed. it definitely feels like early spring, not summer. we have a little bit of rain, not a lot but showers continuing along this front. it will be warm today. south texas could see it in the mid to upper 90s. if you're in des moines, ames, miriam, dubuque, washington, kenosha down to davenport, you'll see showers. otherwise it looks like a beautiful day through the mid-atlantic and down through the deep south. just son afternoon storms in orlando. that's a look at the national forecast. now here's a look at the weather outside your window. temperatures are going to be on the warm side today. philadelphia, 82 degrees. what a great spring.

south. the damage assessment there is just beginning. up to six feet of water flooded the famed muse stage, the grand ole onry, forcing shows to with moved to other opera halls. more fiery remarks from iran's president. threatened that a new round of u.n. sanctions against tehran would put an end to recent earths to restore diplomatic ties between iran and the u.s. the "miami new times" reports that a baptist evangelical minister and founder of the anti-gay research council has been caught. george met the escort through rentboy.com. he claims he was unaware his escort was a male prostitute and he hired him because surgery left him unable to list his luggage. and in new york a picasso painting has been sold for a

whopping $106.5 million, making it the most expensive art sold at an auction. it blew past estimates going to an unidentified bid der. and now here's an early look at how wall street will kick off the day. the dow opens at 10, 926 after tumbling 225 points. the s&p dropped 28 points. in tokyo the nikkei was closed for a holiday while in hong kong the hang seng fell 435 points. skittish investors worrying about what might undermine a global economic rekonkry took a toll on markets yesterday. a european announcement calmed the markets for a few days, but tuesday it sparked global fears that the european union might not have anything left to bail out struggling spain or portugal if they should falter down the

road. that sent the euro tumbling to its lowest point zbefrts the dollar in a year and fueling stock losses across the board. alcoa and caterpillar slid. bank of america lost nearly 3%. meanwhile investors ignored positive data, a rise in march factory orderers and a five-month high in home sails. the commodity prices hit hard. it slipped to settle under $83 a barrel. on the upside better than expected earnings from drugmakers pfizer and merck. nissan is recalling more than 130,000 infinity g 35 to prevent the air bag from deploying. they're recalling coupes and 05-06 sedans. bud light will soon be the

good morning. if you're just waking up, this is "early today." in sports it's rare to see a blowout in the nba playoffs. well, last night the orlando magic not only enjoyed a blowout they notched one of their

biggest playoff victories of all time. here's nbc's fred roggin with an early look at all your sports headlines. >> good morning. with all eyes on the lakers and cavs in these playoffs it's easy to overlook what the magic are doing. last night they flat out embarrassed the atlanta hawks. second quarter off the turnover. jaysle williams lobbed it to mickael pietrus. up 20 at the half. if you like that alley-oop, you're going to love this. orlando led by as many as 46. went on to win it 114-71. it was a much closer game between lakers and jazz. milsap got him. once again kobe bryant saves hid best for last. with the clock winding down he drilled along two, jack loving it. they lead the sooerks two games to one. some sad news out of detroit. ernny harwell lost his battle to can sefrmt he called tiger games
