a disturbing discovery this morning. authorities have shut down a prominent prince georges county continue funeral home because of what they found in a nearby garage. tracy wilkins has details. >> reporter: the owner says that this business was started by his grandfather. he says that he's been in it since he was a 16-year-old kid. he also is he that last month he made a terrible mistake. since 1914, the chambers funeral home has been in operation. in 1983, the family added a crematory to the business. but now their operation has been stopped by the state after a shocking discovery. >> we are very sorry for this situation that has occurred. and we'll keep praying very hard that we can get ourselves out of this. >> during a surprise inspection of the facility, a state inspector was shocked to find # 4 bodies in a pile in a refrigerated section of the garage where the crematory is held. the owner says the bodies were cadavers and part of a

contractual agreement with georgetown medical school. >> we have completed the agreement that we entered with the medical school and we made a slight error of judgment and we're trying to rectify this through our attorneys and try to get back into business and continue on like we have been since 1914. >> chambers says in the future, the funeral home h pick up cadavers two at a time and dispose of them daily instead of picking them all up at once. he says he understands why the inspector was taken a back and he hopes all can be for given. >> the own serz that all the cadavers have been identified and are in the process of being cremated and returned to the university so that they can then be it is about yourselfed disbursed to family members. this business will be going for a hear to go try and get its license back at the end of the month. in riverdale, tracy wilkins, news 4.

the dean of george town university school of medicine released this statement. the school of medicine's contract with the chambers funeral home specifically outlines the school's requirements that the remains be treated in a respectful and organized manner. it appears that this was not the case in this instance. we continue to investigate this matter further and we will communicate directly with all of our donor families. robin bailey, the executive director of the stateboard of morticians says she cannot comments, but she says she's received numerous calls from the public asking if they should be worried after having their loved ones cremated at chambers. bailey believes at this time there is reasno reason to be concerned. and there are changeses to the do not fly list. it turns out the suspect, faisal shahzad was on that list and was able to board an international flight anyway.

he was arrested monday night after boarding plane to dubai. it's raising questions about why he was able to buy a ticket hours after being put on the list. the government will now require airlines to check that list within two hours of the time that it's changed. some of the other passengers on his flid said that they didn't realize what was happening when the plane returned to the gate. >> i didn't think it was anything to be concerned about. obviously he was just trying to get out of the country, so i didn't feel like there was any threat, there was no skir might be, there was no incident of that nature. >> shahzad is apparently cooperating with authorities. he told investigators that he traveled to pakistan several times between july of 2009 and february of 2010. while there, he visited militant group training camps. security forces in pakistan have also arrested nearly a dozen other people in connection with this case. shahzad also apparently has ties to the washington area. according to the "wall street journal," he attended

southeastern university in d.c. more than ten years ago. seu closed last year, an institution called the graduate school now controls the school student records. it says it has not released any information shahzad. today is medical examiner is expect tood release the cause of death for yeardley love, a popular that cross player at the university of virginia who was murdered on monday. police now say they are investigating allegations of a violent history between love and george huguely who is charged with first-degree murder. news four's kimberly sut ters is live with the investigation. >> reporter: huguely admitted to fighting with love and she died from blunt force trauma to her head. the report will confirm whether that's exactly how she died. but no matter that outcome, friends are calling the entire ordeal a double tragedy. >> there's no way that george huguely would do something like that. >> reporter: those the very

first thoughts in michael preston's head the moment he heard his childhood friend, george huguely, was accused of murder. >> just devastating. i can't imagine what his family's going through and even worse what miss love's family's going through. >> reporter: details of the crime in court records devastating to both families. huguely admitted he was involved in an altercation with love, that he shook her and her head repeatedly hit a wall, that he kicked his foot through a bedroom door. police found love beaten and bruised. some of yeardley's friend says huguely threatened violence in text messages. >> i never saw any signs of violence. george was too good of a guy. he was so poo ligfor h polite. >> the last time the two were home together, preston saw huguely in georgetown and life seemed perfect. >> he seemed happy. he was playing lacrosse, coming

well. a senior, about to graduate. it was yeardley love's dream to play lacrosse at uva. he wore number one as she did at her high school. her college academic adviser said love was the quint send shal cavalier. >> thomas jefferson would be proud to have such a young woman at his university studying. she just was lovely in every single way. >> also love will graduate from the university of virginia. >> she will graduate according to the university. i have no idea what her plans, her dreams were, biwe know they were to go on beyond this university and live the mission of the university which is to enrich our nation and the world. >> reporter: everyone who moou her says she would have done, which is what those who knew george huguely thought he would

breeze coming in out of the south as highs reach the low 80s and will hold steady there beginning in the next hour or so and through mid to late afternoon. a look at the rest of the week and the weekend in just a few minutes. let's say good morning to jerry now who has been watching traffic for us. how is it looking now? >> good morning, everyone. it's looking much better now than just a couple of hours ago. this was a tough commute for a lot of folks. but it's no pick nick midday either. 95 northbound, road work up toward lordton. right lane taken away. traffic moving along very slowly. south bound, also a couple of work zones, but not too bad because the hovs. let's head over and see how things are progressing. a tough morning trying to get across the wilson bridge by way of the inner loop .t. the issue is construction. one lane crowed around telegraph road. but the express lanes through the wilson bridge area moving

along much better. back to you. if you're running late this evening, it may not be the best time to press your luck and take the hov lane if you're the only one in that car. police in matter land and virginia are cracking down on hov violators all part of the first ever capital area hov awareness day. megan mcgrath is live outside the police barracks in college park and has more. >> reporter: if you use those hov lanes, depending upon where you are, you et have to have two or three people in the car. and if you don't, you could get a ticket. there are lots of folks during rush hour who are tempted to bends the rule, but you might want to think twice. >> westbound 50 west of church through maryland. >> reporter: driving the hov lane, you better have the right number of people with you. law enforcement officers around the region are cracking down as part of hov awareness day.

this driver was lucky. he got a warning. but many others are facing fines and points. many vie rate tors know what they're doing and have racked up ticket after ticket, but others just aren't familiar with the rules. is big part of this effort is to educate them. >> some people jpt rust aware of the law, that you're not allowed to be in the hov lane with under two people. and in that case, we use our discretion there, but you get multiple offenders where they were already issued a warning, and then the officer or trooper will go from there and act accordingly. >> reporter: on this stretch of route 50, hov lanes are in affect 24 hours a day, seven days a week. in virginia, the restrictions depend on the time of day. fines start at $90 in maryland, $125 for the first offense in virginia. repeat offenders in the old

dominion can save fines as high as $1,000 and three points. and so rules the different depending on which road you're using, but ignorance of the law is not an excuse. you're expected to know the rules and so part of all of this is for the police officers to educate people. there certainly are people that they pull over who just aren't aware of what's going on. many of those folks get warning tickets and they get advised of what the rules are out there on those hhov lanes. others are not s computers in t so they can figure out whether you've had a violation in the past or not. >> megan, thank you. three teens could spend the rest of their lives in prison after being charactered with killing a popular middle school principal and critics are asking why they were free in the first place. police say the three robbed and

look for a way to cap the rig. this morning the coast guard says the oil company that was drilling at the deep water oil well has managed to cap one of the three leaks. it's not going to reduce the amount of oil flowing into the gulf of mexico, though, but it could be a step ready to making the repair work easier. now scientists say a powerful ocean current known as a loop current will almost surely move the oil through the florida keys to the atlantic ocean even hitting north carolina. >> the east coast people should not feel they are safe. once the oil spill gets current, it's a matter of time for to show up on the east coast. >> for now a three day forecast does not show the oil and the current crossing paths. the best temporary solution to bottle up the spill arrives today, a barge expected to haul the 100 ton containment box to a spot 50 miles offshore. mean well while the death toll is now 29 after emergency crews found a man in western ten's who was swept away during those weekend storms last

weekend. waters are starting to slowly recede in nashville after historic flooding drowned the city. president obama signed a disaster did tech la race for tennessee. storms have killed people across tennessee, mississippi and kentucky. rescuers fear they may find more victims outside downtown nashville. many people said that they knew heavy rain was in the forecast, but they were caught off guard that so much came so quickly. and actually i asked you about that the other day because it was in the forecast. i remember you talking about all the rain. >> all in a small area and funneled in to the cumberland river. and so many of our major cities are on rivers. and whenever you get heavy rain in a small area like that, it will funnel into those rivers and unfortunately, with all the development right on the river, they get inundated. and that is the situation there in tennessee, but not here. we've got a beautiful blue sky, high pressure is holding fourth here and we have temperature now at 77 at reagan national. dew point down to 47.

that's drew. humidity only 35% and a variable light wind right now. elsewhere we're in the mid-70s in friprince georges and througt much of the region, we have temperatures hitting the 70s. any wind off the water is cooler. out of the mountain, it's near 07 degrees. eastern shore and at the beach, in the 70s except right there on the shore. wind off the water is keeping it it cooler. over the last 12 hour, the high pressure has moved in and has given thup gorgeous sky and we're not alone. it stretches all the wear from new england all the way down to the gulf coast and into florida. and we will see over the last 24 hours that this high pressure h continuing to advance off to the east and if it does move that way, behind that we have a weak front that will be drifting through tomorrow. and if that does come in, right now it's triggering light rain around the great lake, that will be coming our way. going forward over the next 48 hours, we see this area of color, a zone of potential rain.

perhaps in pennsylvania. we'll be on the southern end of that by tomorrow morning and during the early to late afternoon hours. perhaps a passing shower especially to our east, because small chance of that. that will be moving in for friday evening and perhaps for part of the weekend. so here is the forecast. enjoy for the rest of this afternoon lots of sunshine. breezes kicking up 5 to 15 as the high temperatures climb into the low 80s. yoifr night tonight, we'll have a clear sky. we should be in the low 70s. by midnight in the upper 60s. hen by dawn tomorrow, just past 6:00, down into the low 60s under a partly cloudy sky. during the rest of the day, that weak trough comes through and gives us just a few clouds from time to time.

right now, authorities have shut down chambers funeral home and crematorium in riverdale. and inspector paid a surprise visit and found a pile of 40 bodies in bags on the floor of a

garage. the state has given the home until the end of the week cremate those bodies or be closed. the owner told news 4 the bodies were cadavers and part of an agreement with the medical school. autopsy results could be release tad ghet of a lacrosse player murdered on campus. yeardley love was killed in her apartment early monday morning. her former boyfriend and fellow lacrosse player george huguely is now charged with first-degree murder. students at the university of virginia will hold a vigil tonight to remember love. think twice before you try using those hov lanes by yourself this evening. police in maryland and virginia are cracking down on hov violate tore, all part of the first ever capital region hov awareness day. police will be practice tolling 66, 95 and 395, as well as the dulles toll road. in maryland, the crackdown will

cover interstate 270 and 50. the government will now require airlines to check updated no fly lists within two hours of being notified the changes have been made. this comes after the suspect in that attempted bombing was put on the list but managed to board a plane to dubai. tracie potts has the latest from capitol hill. >> reporter: new york bomb suspect faisal shahzad reportedly tells investigators he trained at a terrorism camp in pakistan. he was on a plane headed for dubai when agents arrested him. >> i was never in any fear that we were this danger. reporter: passengers say they weren't told why everyone had to go back through security, but they quickly figured it out. >> when they pulled him off, he could tell that's what everyone just kind of looked at each other because his demeanor was, you know, okay, i'm caught. >> reporter: federal agents are digging into shahzad's background looking for terrorist tie, talking to people in his hometown of bridgeport,

connecticut and shelton, connecticut, where he lost his home last year. local police say shahzad never crossed their radar. >> they're perfect citizens until it's time for them to do whatever it is their deeds were. >> reporter: nor did he seem to raise any red flags with neighbors and people who worked with him. president obama who is being briefed on the case reassured the public. >> we will not be terrorized. we will not cower in fear. >> reporter: he faces attempted use of a web of mass destruction and terrorism tran sending national borders. questions remain about how shahzad was able to get on that plane and nearly get off the ground. he was placed on a no fly list earlier that day. tracie potts, nbc news, washington. more than a dozen airports throughout ireland are closed this morning as volcanic ash from iceland continues to wreak havoc for air travelers. the same problem grounded more than 200 flights in ireland

yesterday. british authorities say the ash might reach northwestern england and wales, but they believe the cloud will miss london. only flights taking off and landing are impacteded. virginia's attorney general is turning up the heat on one former uva professor over his research on climate change. cuccinelli is demanding papers as part of his investigation into whether the former profession off michael mann manipulated data. mann is now a professor at penn state. he insists his work has been valley dated. cuccinelli is a long time critic of the notion of climate change. he's even sued the epa to challenge its authority to regulate greenhouse gas emissions. the prince william county school board will decide today whether or not to extend the school days for the rest of the year. the school district proposed extending each day by ten minutes starting on may 10th. that's because the strict may fall short of the 99 on hours of

legalizing the drug for chronically ill patients. the bill now heads to fenty who is expected to sign it. congress would then have 30 days to review the legislation before it becomes law. if that happens, the district would join 14 other states that allow medical marijuana. the d.c. is weighing arguments in a case about gay marriage. yesterday judges heard arguments in favor of putting the issue on the ballot. this comes about two months after the city legalized same-sex marriage. opponents of the law are say voter shoes have a say. it could be several months before the court announces its decision on this. a father's emotional fight to get his son and daughter back. christopher savoie flew to japan to bring back his own children after they were taken there illegally by his ex-wife. instead he ended up in jail and has not seen or spoken to his children since. nbc's meredith vieira reports on how the father's painful ordeal

unfolded. >> reporter: this letter from behind bars. >> i've been cruelly torn from the fabric of high school life by this crazy unjis tuesday. >> reporter: at the time, he was locked up in a japanese jail. after being arrested for trying to reclaim his children from his ex-wife. now he has no idea where 9-year-oldize being and 7-year-old rebecca are. >> it's worse than a death. at least with a death there's closure. but i'm still left worry building my children's welfare every day. they're alive, they're out there. i just don't know where. >> reporter: what does that do to a dad in. >> it's horrible. >> reporter: last year, christopher divorced his wife of 14 years. the split was bitter. and despite agreeing in court that the children would live in tennessee, christopher says his ex-wife immediately began talking about taking them to japan for good. >> if you don't play by my rules, i'll have to go and at that time kids and you'll never see them again.

>> reporter: so you tried to get a restraining order. >> right. >> reporter: but after she testified under oath that she didn't really plan to move the children to japan, a tennessee judge decided no restraining order was needed. just five months later, they were gone. that was when this 39-year-old father decided to take matters in to his own hands. you make a decision i'm going to go japan, i'm going to get my kids back. >> they couldn't call me a criminal. they're my flesh and blood children. >> reporter: christopher sneaked up on his ex-wife as she was taking the kids to school. snatched the children back. and made a desperate dash to the closest u.s. consulate 47 miles away. he was arrested before he even made it inside. you spent the mix 17 days in jail. your attorney described your treatment, he said it amounted to torture. >> 12 hour as dave interrogation without a lawyer present. and the hygienic conditions were just awful. >> reporter: he was released only after promise to go leave

>> reporter: the dow is down only eight points. earlier we were down as much as 85 if not more. stocks saw their biggest drop in three months yesterday on growing fears that greece's debt crisis will spread throughout europe and that's still a big worry today which is why we're seeing this downward drop. spain's prime minister did publicly deny his country has asked the imf for money. the you're row is getting slammed fall to go one year lows against the dollar zapping the strength out of the market. asia fell overnight and europe is also low, but we did get good economic day it take this morning. the adp says the u.s. economy added 32,000 private sector jobs during april. that's the third consecutive monthly gain and adp also says it's optimistic the job growth will continue. the monthly challenger report shows that planned job cuts by u.s. companies fell to a nearly four year low last month. and a special panel investigating the cause of the crisis is devilling in to the

business professor todd warshower agrees. >> men have a tendency to look out for themselves first, whereas women have a tendency to look out particularly for their children and their parents first 37. >> but we should have a plan for where we're aiming towards three years from now, five years from now. some of those big things that come down the pike faster than we think. >> reporter: which brings up mistake number three. women don't plan for retirement. >> women for retirement purposes need to save a lot more because they live longer. >> reporter: seven years longer than men on average. that means more money needed for food, the doctor and a place to live. but while women may approach money differently than men, that's not to say they need to be the same. >> women have a very strong compassionate and caring side. if you only use economy, you end up being scrooge or the crazy guy from the homer simpson series. so you need compassion and caring, but hen to balance both of those, you need wisdom. >> that was bob hanson report g
