to a cloudy start after a beautiful day. clouds are going to be a big part of your weekend forecast. not a washout from start to finish but don't expect to do much in the way of sunbathing this weekend. there are light rain showers in the mountains of west virginia, and maybe one or two random rain drops. clouds are in place and rain will become more and more likely as we go through the remainder of the day today. keep that in mind. one of the things can you get out and enjoy today, the blues festival. again, plenty of dry hours between the rain drops for today. tomorrow the dry hours between the drops will be shorter. we will call them minutes, but still not a complete loss of a weekend. >> thank you, chuck. >> okay. we are following a

developing story from india. an airliner bursts into flames when it over shot the runway. the plane was coming from dubai with 166 people onboard. the airline said at least eight people survived. the initial touchdown appeared smooth, but then crashed seconds later. officials also say premonsoon rain caused low visibility in that area. this morning, a teenager is dead after being hit by a car in a ksaw included bike path.

jackie bensen reports. >> reporter: it happened at lee highway and forum drive. witnesses told police the dodge durango was heading north when for an unknown reason it hopped the median and began heading diagonally toward the bike path. >> unfortunately and tragically the teenage bicycle is deceased at the scene as well as the driver of the suv. the female bicyclists was traveling in front and the suv struck her and struck the male bicyclists. >> reporter: two men who own a business across the street heard the crash. >> i am a business here, and i

never see such an action like this today. >> reporter: fairfax police corded off the area for hours to find out what caused the crash. they will investigate to see if the 31 driver manassas man had any kind of medical condition that contributed to the accident. jackie bensen, news4 today. a reminder not to drink and drive. extra troopers and officers will be on the roads this weekend. the coordinated effort will target drivers who could be under the influence or drugs. authorities arrested a man suspected in a sear aefz armed robberies at atms in the

district. secret service agents say they caught john fenlend in the act. these pictures were taken by a camera on an atm in the 600 block of massachusetts avenue. he had a warrant out for his arrest. police are investigating to see if he may be connected to at least ten similar robberies. now to the latest on the oil spill in the gulf of mexico. pb pushed book its next attempt to stop the oil from gushing out into the ocean, meanwhile the oil has reached one public beach. jay gray reports from louisiana. >> reporter: the oil has moved in, so tourists kept out. pb engineers statement they are

capturing 2200 barrels a day through an ensuretion tube. >> this team will put together a very important report. >> reporter: the effort to stop the flow has been delayed again. >> the forecast for when this operation will take place will be sometime in the coming week. our best estimate at this moment is probably tuesday. but i would stress the operations are quite complex. we won't start the job until all the equipment is staged and everything is in place. >> with oil creeping into the marshlands. there will be a barrier dredged across the area with or without approval.

the american dream got brighter for more than two dozen children. they are now waking up as american citizens. the u.s. citizenship and immigration services held a celebration yesterday. the 7 to 13-year-olds come from 14 countries. this is the second year officials organized a children's ceremony. it has been a subject of intensity baite debate. opponents say the changes would move the state away from real history. the school state board reported

on this curriculum. >> there has been rallies and heated discussion about history, geology and social studies should be taught. >> i feel i have let down the students in our state. >> reporter: every ten years the powerful board of education votes on a new curriculum, and it's pushing to correct what it sees as a liberal bias. >> we have not swung it to the right, but swung it to the middle. >> reporter: the people say the board is whitewashing history. >> reporter: here are some of the proposed changes. text books but include the national rival association and the moral majority and include the idea that our founding fathers may not have intended a separation of church and state, and even some vocabulary would

today is the grand finale celebration for cyclists all over the nation. the event is to honor emergency medical workers who have become sick, injured or died in the line of duty. cyclists began their journey from maine, vermont or kentucky and ended together last night in alexandria. a heads up for metro riders out this weekend. you can expect big delays because of track work yet again. you can add 30 minutes to your trip on the red, orange and green lines. this comes to what could be likely to be a busy weekend on the metro. the dc 101 chille cookoff. >> you will be able to get most

of the activities in between the rain showers coming our way later today and tonight and then i think tomorrow will be far and away the busier day to get outside -- to stay inside, rather, and avoid the rain showers. outside right now a cloudy sky over head and a few light showers out in the mountains of west virginia. it's a mild start on your saturday. 65 degrees our current temperature at national airport, and dew point is at 56, so the humidity fairly high. 73%. a live look over washington there, and the winds averaging 10 miles per hour. you will need to watch out for the chance for showers coming up later on. temperatures to get your saturday morning started in the low to mid-60s for the most part. here is a look at doppler now. these rain showers making it all the way to the ground across central west virginia. most of these around washington, and most evaporating before it gets to the ground. so most of it looks scary on

radar. several more dry hours to come before the line has a chance to make its way along our direction. slightly cooler, and back out to the west there is a pocket of low pressure working its way into the great lakes. out ahead of it there will be several pushes of rain chances coming our way. this front will slide in here late tonight and into the day tomorrow. cloudy and cooler. today, mid to upper 70s. tomorrow, with the ever increasing number of clouds and the rain chances, tomorrow we will be holding in the upper 60s to low 70s. here is the future cast model. by 6:30 this evening, most of the rain chances back out to the west of d.c. if you are headed out to the nationals game today, probably going to be dry. have your poncho just in case. and then a chance for showers moving e ing iing in primarily .

her hair apartment. that's what she told police when they pulled her over going more than 100 miles per hour. >> there could be a medical reason behind the woman's bizarre behavior. >> it was like a horrible, horrible nightmare. terrifying. >> reporter: the dash cam video shows powell living the nightmare, the car blasted by an officer and turned her over. she was going over 100 miles per hour on highway 176 where the speed limit is 45. >> when he stopped me is when i felt sane, because then this horror, this nightmare was over. >> i went to get my hair cut and i went the wrong direction. >> do you know how fast you was

beltway backups. how and why. >> good morning and welcome to "news4 today." >> i am kimberly suiters. >> and i am aaron gilchrest. first we look at the weather. chuck bell is in with us this morning, and we have clouds hanging over head. >> yes, the beautiful bright blue sky we enjoyed for most of the day yesterday gone. gone. we replaced it with a chance for rain showers coming up, but there are a couple rain drops out there first thing this morning. as you look live over downtown washington, there is the kennedy

center out there. temperatures in the mid-60s, and so a morning walk or jog or just to get the paper out at the end of the driveway, no real problem. 65 in martinsburg, and winchester, and culpepper, 61. and random rain drops in parts of the frederick and carol counties. you can see on the radar here certainly not a lot of steady rain to get your saturday started. most of your saturday is looking good. rain chances will be on the up and up as you get to mid to late afternoon and this evening as well. keep that in mind, this could be the driest stretch of weather for the weekend if you are headed out to the chesapeake blue's festival. there will be many dry hours to get your festivities in. >> thank you, chuck. >> okay. we are following a developing story out of india right now. nearly 160 people are feared

dead in a fiery plane crash. the plane over shot the runway when trying to land in india. the plane was coming from dubai. the airline says at least eight people survived. investigators have not figured out what caused the crash. aviation experts say the airport has a dangerous table top run way that ends in the valley, and there is no visibility with premonsoon rains in the area. united nations airlines flight 27 was flying from new york to los angeles yesterday when a cockpit fire forced the pilot to land in landon county. the fire was concentrated in a piece of window heating equipment that was the subject of a safety warning three years ago. the national transportation safety board says two extinguishers were required to

put the flames out. nobody was injured. a warning for drivers that use the inner loop near the wilson bridge. this weekend that part of the beltway just west of telegraph road in alexandria will be reduced to one lane for road repairs. news4's julie carry reports. >> reporter: there are so many sections in the loop it looks like a concrete quit. there is a replacement bridge under construction in part of the new telegraph road interchange but they cannot keep patching until its ready next fall. the makeover starts at 9:00 tonight and the inner loop is narrowed from three to just one lane. the old concrete will be ripped away down to the rebar and then special quick-drying concrete

will be poured into a new slab. the rain restrictions could last until 5:00 monday morning. so here is the advice to motorists. >> stay away this weekend. we will shrink the beltway down to a single lane. when you do that, it equals backup. >> reporter: electronic signs warn drivers coming south from baltimore to take the beltway west over the american legion bridge, but even if 47% of traffic is diverted backups could stretch 10 to 15 miles. >> i can tell you what it's going to look like at midnight or 1:00 in the morning, it will look like rush hour. >> reporter: many who live near the beltway already avoid it. >> i work in falls church and i do not get on the beltway. i go service roads all the way.

>> it's also going to be a tough weekend for anybody that uses the chain bridge. the entire span will be shut down all weekend long. the closures started at 8:00 last night. crews have been working to restore the bridge for the past year now and this weekend they will finally remove the concrete barriers and repave the bridge's deck and restripe the lanes, and once the bridge opens on monday morning, all three lanes will finally be back open again. the southeast washington man is charged with the murder of his mother. police say he shared an apartment with his mother. shortly before the officers went in the home, his mentally challenged brother jumped from a window, and police say he also may have been attacked. and somebody stole a computer drive from a school in prince william county.

you that live out near the blue ridge. as a result this line of showers and thunderstorms will gradually work its way in our direction so the weather will slowly but steadily deteriorate as we go through the weekend. mid-60s outside right now. low pressure moving its way into the great lakes. it will drag the weather front in through here. showers becoming more likely through the second half of the day today. and then a good chance for rain throughout the course of the day. tomorrow there will be dry spots from time to time tomorrow. but rain will be a big part of our sunday forecast. rainfall amounts will not be all that impressive. just an isolated rumble of thunder across the area today. only real risk for organizing severe weather in west virginia. and then you folks out west of the blue ridge may get into the rain shower chances earlier.

found a way to beat the nationals. didn't help things when the o's starting pitcher took a no-hitter into the fifth. nats and o's means fans coming out and having a good home run insurance needed. orioles up 2-0. bottom two now. o's pitcher, david hernandez kept the nats in check. here he gets pudge rodriguez on the curveball, and struck out three and took a no-hitter into the fifth. and it's 4-0, baltimore. pudge rodriguez throws over to third and zimmerman, running him down, and pudge back to desmond, and that's played perfectly.

new life for the nationals. bottom of the seventh. 4-1, baltimore. one on for harris, and he hammers this one out of the park. they get a two-run shot from harris, and it's a one-run ball game. and then the rookie has not given up a run this season until right now, right up the middle, and tatum comes in to score, and the orioles beat the nationals 5-3 in the final. >> we played a great ball game tonight and we just got beat. we played good baseball. you know, harris, he played well. those were quality at-bats. when you are in a position -- i am in a better mood tonight than last night, i'll tell you that.

and then wizards facebook mishap last night. they posted wall will be the pick, and then said if he wanted tickets to e-mail him. the post was later taken down. here is wall on the right and even turner on the left. they are considered the top two prospects in the nba draft. they did not take part in any scrimmaging at the combine in chicago. saunders watching these guys along with pat riley. wall, in turn, did play one-on-one if you can call it that. both players should be stars in the nba. the wizards will have their pick. >> it could go either way, what they are trying to do with arenas and stuff like that.

he retired in 1996 at 29 years of age, and in his own words things just spiralled out of control afterwards. he got divorced and spent a year and a half in prison and then filed bankruptcy after leaving boxing with between 50 and $20 million. and bowe is now on the comeback trail, and is having fun and students love him and teach something new for riddick. he said he would like to fight again and if the price and opponent were right it could happen. he would like to keep his ft. washington estate that is currently in foreclosure. it includes his own workout facility and a 26-car garage complete with a car wash that used to be packed, but now sits nearly empty. like so many other boxers, bowe has lost almost everything. >> what happened to former boxing champions?
