two families are shocked and grieving tonight. a bizarre crash leaves a teenager and a father dead. the teenager was headed to college in the fall. the father leaves behind a 10-year-old daughter. good saturday, everyone.

caused the man to veer so far off the road two, families -- two families tonight are coping with unimaginable loss. darcy spencer talked to them tonight. darcy? >> reporter: craig, police still don't know what caused the driver of that suv to lose control. it claimed the life of a man just a day before his 32nd birthday and a teen just a week away from high school graduation. >> reporter: 17-year-old abdul shadily just one week away from graduating from fairfax high school was struck and killed while riding his bike friday afternoon. >> it was a big hit really. so dealing with it, we have strong faith. with happen, it happened. that everybody must go through. >> reporter: was a member of the school wrestling team, and had plans to attend george mason university in the fall. >> he was a good kid. his wrestling, he's very famous, very popular. >> reporter: he was struck by an out-of-control suv in a bike

path about 4:00 friday. behind the wheel of that dodged durango gary thorne the father of a 10-year-old girl, he would have turned 32 today. for reasons still unknown, police say thorne crossed the center median and six lanes of traffic before striking shadly into a bike path and smacking into a tree. both were pronounced dead on the scene. >> he was a hard worker and did everything for anyone. he was always a great friend to everyone and he always had a smile on his face. >> reporter: at the scene where they lost their lives, classmates of the popular student placed flowers, notes and balloons. >> my boyfriend wrestled with him and you used to have a class with him actually and he was such a goof ball and he was the happiest guy that i have ever met in my life. >> reporter: friends pointed this youtube video where he pretends to be a news reporter as showing his outgoing personality and his facebook page reflects a life touched by many. >> about two days ago, we were

all just in the gym after-school and it's just so amazing that he's no longer -- >> reporter: i spoke to the sister of that suv driver tonight, she says relatives have no idea why thorne may have crashed. police are hoping an autopsy will shed some light to see if it could had been caused by some sort of medical emergency or something else. back tour, craig. >> darcy spencer in the studio tonight, thank you. to developing story tonight in mexico, police say they cannot find a tv producer who's wanted for questioning in the death of his wife. bruce beresford-redman was a producer for "survivor." monica beresford-redman's body was found in cancun two days after reported missing. at this point police are not sure if bruce has fled the country. more than 150 people were killed when a plane crashed in western india. tonight, their families are looking for answers.

the boeing 737 express overshot the runway, plunged down a cliff and exploded into flames. eight people survived that crash. some of them jumped out just before the plane caught fire. one the survivors, says it felt like the plane hit something. >> translator: the plane was filled with smoke. there was total chaos. part of the plane broke off. i jumped out. there was another passenger in front of me, so i pushed him out. >> that other passenger believes the plane may had blown a tire. the runway there is known to be tricky for landing but aviation experts say that airplane had flown to that airport many times. why pilots failed to give a mayday call before the plane went down? the mothers of three young americans jailed in iran are back home tonight without their children. the iranian government allowed the women to visit for three days but did not allow their children to go free.

their captivity began last summer when three friends went hiking in northern iraq other and were arrested for crossing the border into iran. the hikers insist it was a mistake, but iran accusess them are being spies. now they're housed in one of tehran's most notorious prisons. >> i'm alone and that's the most difficult for me. >> the pain that we felt of having to leave tehran without our children is almost more than we can bear. >> the emotional strain on them and the loneliness is very difficult and they told us, they just cannot understand why they're still in jail? >> mottthe mother said they wert even given a chance for a face-to-face appeal for their children. expecting major delays on the belt way this weekend. repairs to an overpass on the belt way went much faster than expected. all lanes are back open along 495, telegraph road and

d.c. aimed are expanding a bike-sharing program. all going to create 15 bike-sharing stations. while updated ten existing stations and adabout 19 more. when completed by this fall nearly 1,100 bikes will be available for riders to drop off on either side of the potomac. officials say the money spent on the bike stations will be recouped. their membership sales, advertising and sponsorships. it was a special ceremony for a local vet today, for a brave act nearly two decades ago. specialist dan keyes was awarded the air medal in manassas today. the army is now honoring his

part a combat mission in iraq that happened back in 1991. keyes was a door gunner in a helicopter during "operation desert storm" last year one of his best friends started to work to get him recognition. specialist keyes as you can see there was brought to tears during today's ceremony. >> this -- this -- this is an incredible unit that i served in with guys that i've been friends with for 20 years, and to have an honor like this is just too much fory. >> keyes says he appreciates the honor, but added that he did not get into the army for awards. still to come tonight, one woman's excuse for why she just had to drive over a hundred miles an hour, and pass a cop in the process. we're going to talk about her, and also talk about the sunshine that went away.

a 17-year-old south carolina woman spent 12 hours in jail this week for speeding, but sandra powell was not just going ten miles over the speed limit, no, no, no, chuck bell dam cam video showing the police officer's -- when stopped her excuse for going so fast, caught the officer a little off guard. >> i'm on my way to get my haircut and i -- and i went in the wrong direction and now i'm running late. >> ma'am do you know that you just caused an accident. >> i just about killed myself. >> do you know how fast you was going. >> yes, i do. >> how fast? >> 100. >> how fast. >> 100 miles an hour.

a before memorial. needed the umbrella for a time, but on the whole, a pretty quiet evening here in the immediate washington area. temperatures this afternoon, made it up to a very pleasant 78 degrees after a 64-degree start earlier this morning. right now down to 69 degrees. a little light rain falling here in the washington area, and also a light wind out of southeast at 9 miles per hour. temperatures, generally in the mid to high 60s around the area right now. live doppler shows no rain in downtown that the point but lots of rain to the west of suburban maryland, down to the virginia piedmont as well. zoom in here for you the lightning counter here in the lower right-hand corn of your screen that's a ten-minute count. all across the radar's view out here, we'll zoom in the only flash flood warning in madison county goes until 2:45 in the morning and those echoes of showers and thunderstorms training in the same direction, so you folks northern fauquier county, northern prince william's county up towards leesburg and western fairfax lifting in your general

direction. couple rumbles should be expected over the next one to two hours in time frame and after three to four hours up into portions of the frederick, maryland. no widespread rain buy back behind of that line but nonetheless storms developing over locations. radar estimates between two to three inches of rain over madison county over the last 90 miles to two hours. so on the bigger view area of low pressure has a pocket of cold air associated with it andta will help to fire up more showers and thunderstorms during the day tomorrow, again no severe weather expected, but a couple of rumbles of thunder that are likely that little wave of low pressure in the atmosphere, a little trough out there, will hang around for at least the next 24 to 48 hours and that keeps our weather fairly cloudy and somewhat unsettled so we'll have a very good chance for rain tomorrow and rain chances will at least ling into monday. maybe a little longer than that. so for tonight, cloudy, scattered showers, one or two thunderstorms out there for sure. tomorrow, same story as today, only a little bit cooler because

coach julie myers said the best therapy for her team was to keep playing. today tires in virginia in north carolina hoping to continue their run in the ncaa tournament. cavs taking on the tar heels in the quarterfinals playing in honor of their late teammate yeardley love, who was murdered earlier this month. virginia down 2-0 early until charlie finnegan scores but it was all tar heels after that. north carolina scored 11 goals in the first half. north carolina goes onto win it 17-7. ending virginia's win in the ncaa tournament. plenty of emotions. cavs' head coach julie myers so proud of her team after all they've been through. >> and i think to the end of this season been all that we've been through, you guys have been with us so much, makes it especially hard. i am completely impressed and proud of my team. i'm so proud of their families. i'm so grateful for who -- for va to play for us. one of our fifth-year seniors
