many stlits for vacation. this morning we're hearing those grieving for a high school student killed by an suv when he was on his bike and the man who was behind the wheel. family members of the driver say they still have no idea why he lost control and drove right on to a bike path. darcy spencer has more. >> reporter: the driver of that suv was gary thorne of manassas. relatives say they don't know why he crashed but they don't believe he was drinking and driving. he struck and killed a 17-year-old fairfax high school student. >> both families going through something now no parent should go through. the loss of a child and have to bury your own child. our condolences and our prayers go to them. >> reporter: griffin says he doesn't know where his step son was going. it was about 4:00 on friday.

four on may 29th in baltimore. the conspiracy trial surrounding robert wone is entering its second week. prosecutors will be questioning police detectives and crime scene technicians. they want to know what they saw and heard on august 2, 2006 the night wone was stabbed. three men living in that home are all accused of misleading police in the case. servers at a local cheesecake restaurant are accused of stealing credit card numbers. that restaurant is in the 5300 block of wisconsin avenue. the secret service said they were working for a larger fraud ring beginning in june of 2008 through may of 2009. former server nicole ward was arrested last week on bank fraud charges. court papers said she recruited two other servers to use skimming destris capture card numbers from their customers.

a check of this morning's top stories now. more frustration in efforts to stop that oil leak below the gulf of mexico. a mile long tube is sucking up oil at a slower rate and the oil has pushed 12 miles into louisiana's marshes. six million gallons of crude has spilled into the gulf. students at fairfax high school will return to class today for the first time since one of their own was killed in a crash. abdel ouahid chadli was killed on friday when an suv careened across lee highway and struck him while he rode his bicycle. the suv's driver was also killed. abdel ouahid chadli was set to graduate next month. police are still trying to figure out what caused that accident. a moment of silence at the university of virginia spring commencement ceremony to honor yeardley love. the female lacrosse player was supposed to graduate this year but found beaten to death inside

stations to protect a powerful drug lord. the gunmen torched one of the stations. two security officers were hurt. the accused king. . pin faces charges on drugs and arms traffic. south korea has a warning for north korea. it will no longer tolerate it's brutality and demanded an apology. the president south korea went on national tv and said it would take the north to the united nations security council, suspended trade and ban north korean ships from passing through its waters. this comes after the south blames the north for a surprise torpedo attack that killed 56 sailors and sunk a south korean ship. he said his country is prepared to defend itself from other attacks. the white house said president obama fully supports south korea. iran's top spy chief insists three jailed americans are spies but says he's open to a prisoner swap.

the three students were arrested after crossing into iran. the u.s. denies they are spies. the mothers of the three returned to the u.s. after visiting their loved ones in iran. >> investigators are looking into what causeed inda's worse air disaster in ten years. a plane plunged over a cliff. 158 of the 166 people on board were killed including the pilot and co-pilot. investigators and search teams have found the plane's black box, the cockpit voice recorders and flight data recorder. a u.s. forensic team is also in india this morning to assist in the investigation. some good news if you're planning to travel to europe. it appears iceland's volcano is no longer erupting. scientists say the eruption has stopped for the time being. travellers may not have to worry about tash cloud coming from the volcano that's grounded thousand

little bit before 11:30 there was a shooting on the bw bairk. police received a 911 call, report of shots being fired. police responded to the area and that's when they found a vehicle pulled over on the side of the bw parkway inside were two individuals, one was suffering from gunshot wounds. he's described as an adult male, no other i.d., no exact age. those wounds are said to be nonlife threatening. he was hit in the shoulder and in the arm. police brought a k-9 unit to the scene. that bog began to work along about a mile and a half, two mile stretch of the parkway, about two miles away that's where they found shell casings on the side of the roadway. that's where they believe the shooting itself happened. it appears that the car continued on after that shooting, made about it a mile and a half, two miles further south down the bw parkway and that's when the driver pulled to the side of the road. now, it is unknown exactly what

prompted all of this, whether this is a situation where people knew one another, whether there was for some reason the car, the individuals in that car had been a targeted or whether this is a road flaegcy dent, something that's random. they don't know at this point. very early in the investigation. they are trying to piece all of that together. the bw parkway was closed for a number of hours as police investigated. they have since re-opened the roadway so it should not be a problem for rush hour commuters this morning. >> thank you. today's the first day back at school for students at fairfax high school since one of their own was killed. >> abdel ouahid chadli died friday when an suv crashed into him as he rode his bike. the driver of that suv was also killed. abdel ouahid chadli was a senior at fairfax high where he was on the wrestling team. he was set to graduate next month and attend george mason university next year. a tribute to his life stands at the spot where he died.

alert this morning for drivers who use the chain bridge. only one lane in each direction will re-open this morning. crews were hoping to re-open all lanes but rain kept them from finishing the work. work has been under way on the chain bridge for the last year. all three lanes are expected to re-open in the middle of the week. part of the baltimore/washington parkway is back open after an overnight shooting. this happened south of route 198 in laurel. megan mcgrath joins us from laurel. she has details. good morning. >> reporter: good morning. police are still trying to piece this together exactly what happened, what the motive was behind the shooting which happened on the bw parkway. this all began to unfold a little before 11:30 last night. police received call, a report of gun shots on the bw parkway. they responded and a little bit south of 198 on the parkway they found a car pulled over on the side shoulder. there were two people they say inside that vehicle only

described as adult males. one was suffering gunshot wound to the shoulder and arm. that person is expected to survive those wounds. but police as they were trying to piece together exactly what happened realized that the shooting happened at a different location on the parkway. >> we were looking for a crime scene because we didn't find anything at the scene of that car that would indicate where the shooting took place. one of our k-9 handlers walked about two miles with his dog trained to do article searches and did locate evidence on the baltimore/washington parkway about a mile and a half from the scene. the opera's evidence that was found by that k-9 unit were shell casings. the shooting appears to have happened at that location. individuals in the car kept driving, made it about a mile and a half, two miles further down the road just south of 198 and that's where they pulled over to the side, pulled over on the shoulder. what was the motive behind the shooting? it's not known at this point. police don't know whether or not

>> reporter: abdel ouahid chadli was laid to rest on saturday. funeral arrangements are made for the driver. he leaves behind a 10-year-old daughter. in fairfax county, i'm tracee wilkins. back to you. servers at a local cheesecake restaurant are accused of stealing credit card numbers. the restaurant is located in the 5400 block of wisconsin avenue in the chevy chase pavilion in friendship heights. the secret service said the servers were working for a larger fraud ring from june of 2008 to may of 2009. former server nicole ward was arrested last week on bank fraud charges. court papers said she recruited two other servers to use skimming devices to capture the card numbers from their customers. authorities began their investigation last year after a citibank investigator traced several fraud complaints back to that cheesecake factory location. some members of congress are

198 in laurel. megan mcgrath joins us now with more on this story. >> reporter: good morning. police are still trying to figure out exactly what the motive behind this shooting was, whether the shooter a the victim knew each other, already this was a random act receive lens or some sort of road rage incident. they just don't know. they are talking to the people involved, trying to sort it all out. this happened just before 11:30 last night. police got a 911 call, a report of shots being fired on the bw parkway. police officers responded to the scene and that's where they found a car pulled over on the shoulder of the bw parkway, inside two men, one suffering from gunshot wounds. they were hit in the shoulder and in the arm. but are expected to survive. as police began to investigate and to kind of look around in the area where they found that car they realized the shooting didn't happen right at that location but actually a couple of miles away on the bw parkway. >> we were looking for a crime

scene because we didn't find anything at the scene of that car that would indicate where the shooting took place. one of our k-9 handlers walked about two miles with his dog that's trained to do article searches and did indicate some evidence on the baltimore/washington parkway about a mile and a half from the scene. >> reporter: the evidence that they found were shell casings left there on the scene. they believe that's where the shooting happened. again, also a stretch of the baltimore/washington parkway. the victims continued to drive for a mile and a half to two miles and stopped there on the side of the road and that's when the police received that 911 call. in terms of suspect, vehicle description, none of that information has been released. police are only saying that the victim is an adult male and he is expected to survive. back to you. this morning pliolice are trying to figure out how a 6-month-old baby day. anne arundel police say they
