police to a bus driver accused of the assault. tonight the school system is reacting for the first time. jackie benson joins us from prince george's county school headquarters with more on the story. jackie? >> reporter: doreen, school system officials tell us they're trying to determine if the boy was a passenger on the suspect's school bus route. many of the saying 28 alexander smallwood is accused of doing to a 7-year-old boy are too graphic to be described on tv. documents filed in federal court charge him with making a video of child pornography with his cell phone. the video was discovered march 15th when smallwood accidentally left the memory card on the counter at this 7-eleven in clinton, maryland. a customer identified only as d.m. purchased a big gulp and wings and noticed at band ond card. the self-described i.t. person took it home, viewed it, and

called police. they looked at the 7-eleven security video that, led them to smallwood. investigators soon learned he worked as a prince george's county school bus driver. >> we are investigating this matter as we speak. we are conducting interviews and trying to find out what we can about this situation. >> reporter: criminal investigators located the 7-year-old who told them he knew smallwood as his night bus driver who sometimes took him to church. court documents allege that in the videotape the suspect can be heard offering the boy two star bursts candies for next time. he was arrested may 21st at the school bus depots in brandywine. he had been a driver since 2005 and passed a background check. >> the public school system takes this matter very seriously. our intent each day is to protect our young people, all of our students. >> reporter: smallwood remains jailed until his next court

appearance. door ev doreen, back to you. >> thank you, jackie. the u.s. park police are still looking for a driver involved in what appears to be a road rage shooting on the bw parkway. a man was shot twice in the arm just before 11:30 last night in laurel. police say it started when the man rear ended an suv at route 198. he got scared, we're told, and drove away. he was followed on to the parkway and somebody inside the suv pulled a gun and fired as many as nine shots. >> the important thing is, if you're involved in a traffic crash, frequently it's just an accident. and things happen. and it's not worth getting into a violent confrontation with people. >> police recovered several gun casings that victim is in expected to survive. a local restaurant hopes to reassure customer that's their credit card information is safe after accusations of skimming.

three former servers at the cheesecake factory are accused of stealing card numbers from patrons. federal authorities say they racked up $117,000 in fraudulent charges in 2008 and 2009. a company executive says the employees are trained to properly handle credit cards but some customers are wondering why things are not done differently. >> why don't we have the same system they have in europe where they bring a little swipe machine to your table and they swipe your card right at the table? >> the secret service began monitoring the cheesecake factory last year after getting a tip from a bank investigator. dinner was minutes away when a local man made a mistake that nearly cost him his life. now he wants others to know what he did wrong. craig melvin is in kensington at the fire station that got the call. >> reporter: sometimes you do something a lot, you switch to autopilot. that is precisely what a

rockville man says did he yesterday and tonight he is sharing the story that he wants all people who use it -- to use a grill to hear. >> split second. literally i got that poof sound out of my head. it was pretty scary. >> reporter: steve hickey was grilling on the back deck sunday evening. >> i went to change the propane tank. i hooked it up and then went to fire the grill back up. it didn't ignite. >> reporter: so he bent down to see what was wrong. >> win the to open the doors. and that's when i heard a slight hiss. so i was like this and i went and got down a little closer. but that's when the flair came and moved me back about six feet. >> reporter: the fireball slammed him against his house. he threw up his arms, rushed to get his mother off the deck and ran and grabbed the hose. he and a neighbor put out the fire quickly but hickey burned part of both legs and arms. besides the second degree burns, he bruised and scraped his head. he also knew he burned down his

house but he knows it could have been worse. >> dead, blind, you name it. >> reporter: hickey admits he was doing several things wrong. he had a few tanks around the grill. the grill was too close to the house. for all those memorial day weekend barbecues in montgomery county wants outdoor chefs to be mindful. >> make sure the working condition of the grill is up to par in regards to hoses, components, side burners. make sure that children know that this grill here, this is a safety zone. at least a three foot safety zone from around the grill. >> i've been around propane tanks. i grill three, four times a week year round. but, you know, sometimes you just have to stop and think, you know? i mean i really wish i had. >> now montgomery county fire and rescue says you should ask yourself a couple questions before you fire up the grill. has my grill been recalled? a surprising number of them have been. you can check the website to find out. also, are your connections secure?

some sun screens may be doing more harm than good according to a new study. the environmental working

group's latest sunscreen report says that some ingredients can actually cause stin problems when they react with the sun. one of those ingredients is vitamin a which a new government study is linking to an increased risk for skin cancer. >> it may gb when you're eating it, but when you put it on the skin and sunlight hits it this data shows that it may speed up the growth of skin tumors and lesions. >> the data on that study has not been finalized yet. experts say you should look for ingredients that are proven safe in sunscreens including zifrpg, zinc and titanium. tonight, "law & order" and the 20-year run on nbc came to an end. although the show's spinoffs will live on, the original leaves behind something special. we have a look back. ♪ >> reporter: television had given us "cops," lawyers, but it wasn't until "law & order" that

so we got some changes coming our way? gray and gloomy most of the day to day. >> exactly. we're going to get rid of the gray and gloom. certainly a little bit of fog for tomorrow morning will wipe that out of the way. we were talking about sunscreen earlier. this memorial day weekend, a lot of us will make our first sunscreen lotion purchase. we have some sunshine and heat, too, for the next couple of days. let's take a look outside. we bring you our weather shot. yes, it's the full moon. it is 87% full. that's at 3:49. in a couple days on the 27th, it's the full moon. all right. today's high temperatures, 79 degrees. the average high is 78. seasonal temperatures today. running the next few days will be a little bit of summer heat for you. some june hot stuff. 80 degrees is the average high for the first 87 for the 30th of june. so that's a blilt of just a touch of summer coming your way the next few days. 70 degrees is the temperature right now.

did pick up a trace of rainfall. wind currently out of the east. still that easterly wind and low level moisture. 65 in mart inzburg now. 68 in sterling. 70 there in d.c. 67 degrees current fli laplata. here's a look at what is happening. the weekend storm system off the coast right here. and then we have high pressure to the north. both creating this easterly flow which isn't really going to be easing up until tomorrow when high pressure really starts to take over. that's what's going to be winning out. meanwhile, sprinkles down to the south of us in big storms through the high plains. it was a busy weekend. let me take you back to saturday night and show you one tornado that now just is confirmed to be an f-4. this one swept through edmond county, south dakota. yes, an f-4 with wind speeds of 207 to 260 miles per hour. that tornado again through the weekend swept through a farm, dismantled everything on the farm except the resident's home that was nearby. and there were two people inside of that home that was nearby.

that is one crazy tornado, huge. all right. here's what we got coming to us again. high pressure is going to take control tomorrow. we'll start with a little bit of fog. then that fog is going to burn off. more sunshine for tomorrow. once about the same as what it was today, up to 80 degrees. and then as we go through the day on thursday, a little bit more sunshine. the beach and boating forecast, yeah, i know it's early. some folks want to know that water temperature. 68 for the bay. we'll be running between 80 and 82 degrees. and then down ocean city, 62 degrees the water temperature for saturday and sunday. right now, no chance of any rain. so for your morning, a little bit of fog to deal with. might want to get an early start. we'll be between 58 and 64 degrees. the high for tomorrow, about 78 to 80 degrees. it will be warmer and more sunshine across the area. and right now wednesday is looking like a pretty day. but it's going to be hot, close to 90 degrees. thursday and friday right now, we could have a few showers and

a run would score to tie it at two. the first earned run in triple-a for strasburg. well, tutly hit a grand slam off straussburg in the arizona fall league. and straussburg wouldn't let that affect him n the fifth, he gets diaz to chase the high one. straussburg goes five innings, strikes out five, doesn't figure into the decision. syracuse still gets a win. straussburg says it's a learning experience. >> today was one of the game where, you know, i didn't really have all my stuff working. you have to really go out there and pitch and really do your best and stay in it and just, you know, hope that somewhere down along the game that, you know, it will just come to you. and i was able to do that for the most part. i had some great defensive plays that really backed me up. and, you know, we came out with a win. what more can i say? >> spoken like a professional. pretty darn impressive for straussburg who probably will be up here next week. you know who else is resilient? the philadelphia flyers.

trade center will be in prince george's county tonight. the metal beams are being escorted by firefighters to palm beach gardens in florida. they'll get there for an elaborate memorial day ceremony and for the dedication of a september 11th memorial. the beams and firefighters will spend the night at the volunteer fire station in landover. that's our broadcast for now.
