through a side door. >> working with the crime prevenon unit. making sure clients are locking their doors. >> reporter: neighbors say the burglar likely gained access to the community on foo these crimes have them concerned. to have a burglar in this area is quite unusual. and our understanng is, one of the families was home, and a purse was taken and some things, and then the other one, golf clubs and things were taken out of a car. >> reporter: police say there are similarities between these four cases and burglaries in fairfax county. where police believe one person is responsible for 84 incidents. the burglar strikes while residents are in bed, sneaking in through unlocked doors and windows, grabbing cash and purses. in one break-in he stole two guns. >> at this point our investigators are contacting their investigators, they're in communication with each other,

learning about the incidents they had. >> reporter: this burglar is very ilusive, no one has even captured a glimpse of this burglar who's gone into so many people's homes. also we should note here in prce william county, police are saying in some ofhese cases there were home security systems, home alarm systems, unfortunately, they were turned off. reporting live from manassas, darcy spencer, news 4. back to you, wendy. >> thank you. the balstan mall in arlington was evacuated for a time. after several shoppers were overcome by pepper spray. five people were treated at the scene and taken to the hospital for reactions to the spraying. arlington police are investigating whether a shoplifter sprayed the contaminant on the third floor of t building. the fire department checked the mall and reopened it once the air was cleared. one in 20 adults in d.c. are hiv positive. city officials took an unprecedented step today to stop the spread of this virus.

they started testing at dmv's in exchan for a break on the fees. >> reporter: this is the first of its kind in the country, a pilot program offering hi testing only at one branch this one in southeast washington. if successful it could be available at all the dmv's throughout the city and other states as well. thepenn branch dmv in southeast washington is providing the office space. the d.c. department of health supplies the hiv test kits and a private partner is giving a quarter of a million dollars for the year-long program that could screen 3,000 people who might not otherwise be tested. >> we really base the need on the current statistics in the district that show an increase of hiv in the wards in the district. i think it's the place where we

need to try innovative programming like hiv testing in community sites like the dmv. >> money orders for up to $15 are used as an incentive to get people to consent to the hiv sting. >> i'm going to test it, i want to know my status, so i can identify where i am. how to better myself. >> why at the dmv? >> is convenient. >> i had to come register my car, and they actually pay you, basically, or giveyou mney toward whatever service you're getting in order to get tested. if you get tested you get 10, 15 $toward your service. >> reporter: a lollipop siz swab is used for the oral test. >> in 20 minutes you will learn of your hiv status. >> reporter: if a test comes back positive,ed mmunity education group located right across the street from the dmv offers immediate help. >> the first thing that we do is go over and we literally escort the person over here to begin the counselling process.

this school year, that's a gain of several hundred children over last year. the school's chancellor and mayor fenty made the announcement this morning. they said it's good news because annual enrollment had been eadily decreasing. this year schools in every ward saw a boost. >> i hope that this momentum wi continue and that will public will continue to see that we do provide great programming for kids in our buildings. and we're ready to have your students in the d.c. public schools. >> 14 of the systems 123 sools had waiting lists for the first time this yer. a search is underway in yellowstone national park for a missing maryland man. 48-year-old stewart isaac is from burtonsville. his abandoned lexus was found during a routine patrol sunday night. parkrangers have been searching from the ground and air for him. so far they haven't found any clues of his whereabouts.

starting today, getting tested for hiv is just as easy as a trip to the dmv. the city partnered with a nonprofit group to off testing. it's a cheek swab test and results come back in20 minutes. anyone who gets tested will receive up to $15 off their dmv costs. prince william county police are investigating the series of burglaries at the piedmont estates. a gated community in haymarket. four homes were robbed there overnight sunday into monday. they're also trying to see if there's y connection to a recent rash of robbery in fairfax county. the man who tried to set of a car bomb in times square, gets six consecutive life terms in prison. he has no regrets and no remorse for trying to set off a series of blasts during a crowd saturdayight back in may. he pleaded guilty to terrorism and weapons of mass destruction
