on the move. police and homeowners worry a serial burglar is now targeting properties in a second area county. good evening, i'mdoreen gentzler. >> and i'm jim vance. that unidentified serial burglar is thought to be responsible for nearly 90 burglaries in fairfax county. and now police are worried that he or she has a new target. jackie bensen has more on this.

jackie? >> reporter: jim, the question tonight, is it t same suspect? the weekend burglaries have con founded residents of this high-end gated community in haymarket, virginia. >> right now i put my alarm system on all the time, even when i go to bed. yes. i think that happened to this lady, one of them, that the alarm came on and she didn't go down, andt went on again. >> reporter: in addition to the enance gate, home security is a big deal here. each one of the 50 or so houses in the development is equipped with a state of the art security system. >> i go around at least once a week and check my windows. because the houses are bigger in here, so there is maintenance people here and landscaping people, so you just kind of are a little more aware. >> but prince william county police note that of the four homes broken into on ridin club drive during the overnight hours saturday and sunday, three were entered through unlocked doors

university held a vigil to remember 18-year-old tyler cleminti. he jumped to his death when his roommate taped him having a sexual encounter with another man. officials say the 15-year-old hanged himself three weeks ago. in tas, asher brown's parents say he was pushed too far about his sexseuality. he shot and killed himself september 3. >> the gaz ays and lesbians are terribly vilified, and the one place they should be safe is in our school, and they're not. >> the fm is about more than one gay teenager's struggle with bullies. it's about his school's inaction. >> i think schools have to be explicit and name gays and lesbians in particular. it can't be neutral in a case like this.

policing. >> tonight it was filled with gray supporters. the next town hall will be thursday in ward 3 where an overwhelming majority voted against him. things are back to normal in a shopping mall in arlington after pepper spray sent several people to the hospital. police think a shoplifter at the ballston mall sprayed the pepper spray. a lot of people had trouble breathing. the mallas evacuated for a period of time. that shoplifter has not been caught. firefighters blamed some unattend candles for sparking a fire that killed a moer and her two children in lorton, virginia. another three children were rescued from that townhouse two weeks ag the family was using candles to light their home because the power had been turned off. fire officials advise that leaving burning candles around ki or pets is a bad idea. still ahead on news4 at

introduced legislation today that would limit school to 30 minutes and 7 hours. they have the shortest school day in the region. t shorter days would mean more costs,nd that is something the city has not yet set aside. the district is taking an unusual approach to try to stop the spread of hiv. they're offering free tests at a dmv office. with one in 20 adults in the city hiv positive, health leaders wanted to get toward 7 and 8 where the infection rate is rising. so the dmv in southwest d.c. will offer $15 to dmv customers who get screened. if a test coms back positive, immediate help and counseling are available at the community group ght across the street. the year-long program hopes to screen 3,000 peoplent. > the white house is offering tours of its garden grounds on october 16 and 17.
