details. >> reporter: police tell a lexus suvrom a high-rise building. investigators believe it i the vehicle involved in a deadly hit and run accident in northwest washington. policere questioning the woman they think was behind the wheel. it happened at around 1:30 this morning just south of dupont circle. police say the victim was getting out of this parked rcedes on connecticut avenue when she was struck by a black suv. the driver did not stop. the area is home to several bars andestaurants and police say there were a number of eyewitnesses. one of them had a bicycle and began to chase the suv as it fled the scene. police say the witness on the bike was able to get a tag number. that critical piece of information ultimately led them to the suv in chevy chase. megan mcgrath, news4. poli charged with dui. lice have not charged her with a hit and run. the victim's father talked to

news4's pat collins today. his story is coming upt news4 at 5:00. >> some tense moments at ballou high school as police tried to arrest a student for a probation violation. arnd 9:30, a d.c. police officer in two school security officers confronted the student inside the school's front entrance. a scuffle broke out and police stay student bit one officer on the arm. at one point the entire group was pepper sprayed. no one was seriously hurt. the student now faces addional charges, including assault on a police officer. police are investigating an armored car robbery here in bethesda. it happened just after noon. twmen approached the armored car outside of the wachovia bank along wisconsin avenue. the suspects reportedly robbed the grd, stole hisweapon, then took off. no one was hurt. police stay men are believed to be armed and dangerous. >> police are trying to determine the motive in a deadly stabbing inside a northern

virginia restaurant. is happened last night inside the 5 t bar and grill on spring garden drive in springfield while people were eating their dinner. police say the two got into an argument. one pulled out a knife and stabbed the other before injuring himself. investigators stay two knew each other. is still in t hospital this afternoon but he has been charged with murder. drivers using the beltway in northern virginia need to prepare fo a new traffic pattern starting next week. all four northbound lanes on i-495 will shift left ov route 123 at tyson's corner. once across route 123, the lanes will shift back over. this is the hot lanes project. there are also ramp closures and traffic pattern changes in the area. it could be in effect for up to two years.

the u.s. first invaded afghanistan. small targeted group of special forces quickly drove taliban from power. now we are entering the 20th ar of the war. today the taliban issued a statement observing the anniversary of the invasion and claiming that 75% of afghanistan is within its control. obviously, ten years, not 20 here. the group made the claim as u.s. and nato forces pushed further into taliban territory. nato says dozens of insurgents were killed overnight in air strikes and ground operations. one of the casualties is a senior taliban leader who spearhead attacks against security forces. >> there have been no more attacks or more attacks against nato tcks headed to afghanistan. overnight they were attacked by militants. meanwhile there seems to be no let-off by pakistan's government overheir decision to seal their border to the nato convoys.

ian williams reports from the scene of this latest attack. >> reporter: some of them stopped here because they thought it was relatively safe. this is outside the tribal area. it is also on the main road. st a short distance from a major army base. yet the soldiers never intervened as the gunmen methodically destroyed these tankers, shooting at them, setting fire to the wheels. now it was closed a week ago, there have been more than seven attacks on convoys. hundreds of tankers are sitting stra like sitting ducks if you like,hile the government considers whether it will reopen before that. >> they are evaluating the particular situion. and a decision with regard to reopening the supply route will be taken in due course. >> reporter: the americans, nato, has apologized for the

the dow dropped almost 20 points to close at 10,948. th nasdaq gained 3 to close at 2383. the s&p 500 lost a single point to close the day at 1158. there is fresh evidence that the job market islowly healing. the number of new applications for unemployment befits fell by 11,000 claim last week. that's the fourth decrease in five weeks according to the labor department. and a separate report shows the number of job openings climbed in august by nearly 2% to 2.85 million. the highest in 21 months. in addition, layoffs fell sharply in august to 1.6 million. that's the low nest more th four years. the unemployment rate nationwide still hovers around 9.6

and preheat the oven to 450 degrees. i hollowed out the mushroom and then diced up the inses. we'll take our ingredients and mix them together. you can do all kinds of different variations of this stuffed mushroom but this is a very good appetizer for parties. it wl be evenly divided. so you don't want to overstuff them. now that we've stuffed our mushroom here, we're going to put the cheese on. you want to start off with the cheddar cheese. this will brown faster because it has less moisturehan the cheddar. so that is what will be the pretty brownness. now we'll put this into our preheated 450-degree oven and we'll leave it in there for about 12 to 15 minus. and there you have it.

graphic. the scandal involves a young woman who compiled a list of her cam conquests. she named names and a whole lot more. now the list has gone viral. it is another cautionary tale about the vast reach of the internet. jeff has the story. >> reporter: thas her. karen owen. these days duke's most infamous author and she is naming name. the men who were good and bad in d. she even ranked their performance on a bar graph. we're hiding their identities, though karen didn't. she wrote it like a thesis. the title, excelling in the realm of horizontal academics. she writes about her sexual exploits from her sophomore year all the way througher senior year at duke. she just graduated. karen calls each man a subject and sex with them, data collection. she brags about having sex in the duke library during finals week and in suvs. but she also came off vicious saying if subject number one, it was over too quickly.

this heavy white and black smoke is the second fire in five weeks at liberty tire recycling in south florida. this blaze began late yesterday and was brought under control this afternoon. the department of environmental protection is still investigating a fire back in august, and now this fire. investigors stay company was cited after the august blaze for leaving tires exposed to the sun, which causes the petrolm in tires to burn. liberty was billed more than $69,000 for the august fire.

us about the threats he's been receiving. >> i'm complety clueless. i had to find out where they even came from. >> reporter: september 12. the adams morgan day festival. there are conflicting reports about what that but the stories all end the same. a d.c. police officer subdues a sharpei mix that eventually gets away. police said the dog then came at the officer aggressively, forcing him to pull his gun and shoot the dog. that officer's name is also scott. >> i'm not a police officer. i work for a deck and fence company. >> reporter: since september 15th, he said people have inundated his mailbox calling him a dog killer and saying he should be shot. he said it doesn't help that he's a hunter and holing a deer in his facebook profile picture. >> that right there offended some people. and so i was an immediate target for being this guy. >> reporter: he said that he loves animal. he's never been to adams morgan and he wants the malicious mail to stop. >> they weren't there.
