good morning and welcome to news 4 midday. i'm barbara harrison. it's date. we're following two breaking news stories this morning. we begin with an accidents involving pedestrians in aspen hill. it happened on aspen hill road and georgia avenue. it involved a mother and her child. police and rescue personnel are on th scene right now. we have live pictures from chopper 4. the intersection remains blocked. the injuries to the victims are said tbe critical.

we'll have me as details become available. first we'll talk to the captain who is with usn the telephone from montgomery county fire and rescue. what can you tell us about what happened? >> fire and rescue were notified about a pedestrian be struck, a mother and a child at the intersection of georgia avenue and aen hill road. there was a cpr in progress by a bystand bystander. that child has sious life threatening injuries right now being transported to e trauma center. mother also injured, however the status of her injuries unknown at ts point, believed to be nonlife threatening. appears there was an suv traveling in the northbound lanes of georgia avenue right at the intersectio vehicle did stay on the scene. cuently on the scene. and montgomery county police will begin an investigation of the circumstances surrounding this particular accident. >> we're looking at a live picture and it looks like it is

a controlled intersection. any word from any one on the scene as to whether they were walking against the light there? >> at this point i do not have any specific information as to where their location was. i can tell you i did speak with one of the by standers that initiated cpr. don't know where the initial contact happened but the child does have some serious life threatening injuries. we continued with care to the local trauma center. >> thank you so much for the information you've been able to give us. we'll continue to follow this story and be in touch with you later. we're going to go steve hirschhorn to find out how this is affecting traffic. >> reporter: on georgia avenue at aspen hill road. traffic is being diverted only from the northbound side of georgia avenue. here we are wi a live look. traffic to the left is heading

northbound. traffic is being turned down back down to aspen hill. on the right is the southbound side of georgia avenu and that is only having the left lane blocked. you can get by southbound right now. no completely blocked. as you can see at theop of your screen not a huge delay right now to get by there. you may want to choose the alternate th works best for you. southbound, despite the slow traffic l your lanes are open. >> thank you very much, steve. again, this accident happened in aspen hill, maryland, this morning and we're continuing to follow that story. meanwhile we're following another breaking news story out of nashville, tennessee. e half brother of albert haynesworth has died. lance mccoy was driving a motoycle when he crashed on into another car. he was rushed to the hospital where he later died. witnesses told police the motorcycle was going about 100 miles per hour. be the suspect in yesterday's deadly hit-and-run

accident in dupont circle is now in police custody. jorida davidson turned herself into authorities early this morning. elaine reyes is live outside of the d.c. courthouse downtown where davidson is expected to appear later today. good morning. >> reporter: good morning. davidson i scheduled to make an arraignment hearing sometime after 1:00 this afternoon. so far police have only charged her with one count of volunry vehicular manslaughter but more charges are forthcoming. d.c. investigators say just after 5:00 this morning, 30-year-old jorida davidson walked into the headquarters with a relative and turned herself in. about an hour later they transported her to police central downtown for more procession and court hearing. >> when he a warrant yesterday. we're worng on the warrant yesterday. however, again, she came in and turned herself in. >> reporter: investigators believe davidson was behind the

wheel of an suv that struck and killed kiela marie ryan in dupont circle early yesterday morning. ryanas out celebrating her birthday. she died a few hours later at a local hospital. a witness saw the entire thing and chased the suv long enough to get a tag number. it was that information that led them to davidson's friendship heights high rise. police too away her suv as evidence, the bumper cleaned after the accident. they called the bicyclist's hp key. >> that was a very important piece of the investigation. without him the investigation wouldn't be as tight as it is right now. and we always are looking for more witnesses that was there that day that possibly witnessed the incident. >> reporter: investigators tell us that davion is an albanian citizen who sometimes freelances as a translator. that arraignment hearing supposed to take place sometime

after 1:00 this afternoon. back to you. planning on taking metro this columbus day weekend? you may need to change which station you go to. the farragut west and mcpherson station will be closed through monday because of track improvements. lower level of metro center will be closed. red line service at metro will not be impacted however no orge or blue line trains will be passing through any of those three stations. that means you have to take a shuttle between the station. you should also be prepared for delaysf up to 40 minutes if you ke blue or orange lines. everything should be back to normal for tuesday's morning's commute. the red and yellow lines will be no picnic this weekend either. you'll have to add at least a half hour to your ride if you take the red line between shady grove and twin brook because of platform repairs. on the yellow line expect 30 minute delays between huntington and braddock road because of landscaping work at the

morning as susan g. komen walk for the cure got underway. a three day event. 2,00 participant this year. they will walk 60 miles over the course of three days to raise money for breast cancer research. an emotional morning at national's park. people from all walks of life bonding togethering to fight breast cancer. for some it is very personal. they walk for themselves. >> my mother had breast cancer and then i had it. i've bean survivor for 16 years. and it made me look at life differently. i celebrate life every single day. >> reporter: others walk for loved ones lost. >> my mom -- it's emotional. my mom was diagnosed. she was not a survivor,

unfortunately. >> i'm walking for my aunts, my girlfriend and one of my good friends' mother. >> reporter: a lot of people. >> i lost my neighbor two weeks ago. a four time fighter and finally it overcame h. >> reporter: this is important? >> yes,very important. the names of all the people we're walking for here and on our banner as well. >> reporter: the susan g. komen walk for the cure raises money for research and prevention. over the next two days 2,000 people wil walk 60 miles. track will take them from nation's capital to gaithersburg and back again. a small sacrifice they say to help find a cure. >> we were going to do it. easier to train than to have cancer. yes we can. >> reporter: the walk wraps up on sunday with a ceremony on the

national mall. last year this event raised $5 million. they hope to do the same again this year. in southeast, megan mcgrath, news 4. and we have a traffic alert starting tonight. crews are going toshut down several streets around the imf and world are bank buildings this evening. they coincide with meetingsthis weekend. the street closings begin at 7:00 and reopen sunday afternoon at 5:30. this morning it looks like fairfax coun police may have a murder investigation on their hands in an upscale neighborhood. a 61-year-old man was discovered in the house of 6100 block of ladues end court. people are stopping short of callinat it homicide but say there's evidence of foul play. they also say the man's lexus suv is missing from house to. police are looking for that vehicle. here's a picture of what it looks like. it's got virginia plates that read xyw-8197.

commerce department employees who work down have an unscheduled day out of the office because of a fire. firefighters evacuated the building on 14th street in northwest d.c. a fire started on the third floor with asbestos abatement had been going on. that made itdifficult for firefighters to convenient ti late that part of the building because of asbestos particles. they wore full hazmat suits and got sprayed down with water. today employees have to take administrative leave or work from home. our time right now 12 minutes after 11:00. the nobel peace winner is announced. coming up, we'll have information on the winner who is still in prison.

new today word of the latest nobel peace prize winner isn't going over so wl in china. the honor goes to liu xiaobo. the committee said he's the first person to win while stl in prison. chinese authorities said the panel violated its own principles by honoring a criminal. the country blocked all broadcast of itshonor. the nobel committee cited liu xiaobo for his nonviolent struggle for human rights. president obama won the nobel peace prizelast year. three dozen people are recovering this morning after a

hollywood, rays ofunshine there. 68 right now. 65 degrees up to the north in thurmont, maryland. raleigh at 70 degree high pressure moves in. as it moves to the south and east through the weekend we'll eventually be on the back side of that high with a clockwise flow, southwesterly wind and that means even higher temperatures. we're ing to get close to 80 degrees sunday and probably top out i think over 80 on monday. on columbus day. some cool nights and cool nights like this that give us the beautiful fall color. caribou, 33 degrees. here's a look at some of the fall color. peak color up by the catskills and adirondack's. poconos moderate color.

appalachians moderate color showing up here with some color locally. so it's coming along but really hard to forecast exactly where the peak color is going because it's been such a tough year. the drough with so much of the northeast, drought during the summer and then the rains early part of the fall take away from the vid color. we won't se as big o a wow. some wow up north. this is from huron. arcadia national park in maine. we'rkeeping an eye on the tropics. this guy light rain to the south, southern bands in puerto rico, u.s. virgin islands been producing quite a bitof rain, flooding. they will get another two to four inches. zips on off through the weekend away from the east coast. good news fours. our forecast will be absolutely, again, more of the same, spectacular weather. blue skies showing up until sunset. 76 to 79 degrees. again, nice and mild. the overnight down to 56 degrees

at aspen hill wn the stroller was stck by an suv. the suv stayed on the scene. but the you baby was given cpr on the scen and transported by ambulance to children's hospital. the condition of the young baby is still unknown. joining me sergeant sanger with the montgomery county police. sergeant, tell me what you can about what happened here this morning. >> good morning. we were dispatched at about 10:22 this morning to a pedestrian struck. en route we learned it was a young child. i would put the child's age at approximately 18 months. it's our understanding the child was struck by a single vehicle. th vehicle remained on the scene. the child was traported to children's hospital but her current condition is unknown at this time. >> reporter: was cpr being performed on the child as she was taken to the hospital? >> when i arrived yes. an officer and registered nurse were performing cpr.

>> reporter: what's happing now with the investigation? >> we're waiting to hear from children's hospital to hear the condition of the child to see how we proceed. >> reporter: let's ke another look at the scene. we're at the inrsection of georgia avenue and aspen hill road where this accident occurred about 10:20 this morning. a woman pushing a stroller with 18-month-old maybe girl in it across georgia avenue. the stroller struck by a green suv that you can see in t picture. that suv remained on the scene. now these other cars that you see parked around here are witness rs. people in the cars who saw what happened and the cops are keeping them on the scene until they get a chance to interview them and document at happened. the 18-month-old baby girl was taken to the hospital. cpr in progress. now, for the traffic. the northbound lane of georgia avenue has been shut down here at aspen hill road.

unemployment rate does remain unchanged at 9.6%. we got a muted reaction by the market to that report. it was somewhat mixed. we thought the unemployment rate would go higher but job losses would be fewer. we evened out there. this is the last jobs report before the november elections. that's key to point out. and 1700 jobs are being eliminated from the pharmaceutical business. 25% of the jobs in that business unit. but only 13 of i was total 13,000 u.s. employees. and bank of america is hopinalt foreclosures in all 50 states. and nearly a million workers won't get conmer protection under the new healthcare reform aimed at capping insurance costs because the government has exempted their employers. 30 companies including mcdonald won't reacquired to raise the

romantic dialogue, cary grant, everything is charming. >> up to watch it. did you see. >> it's >> i had seen it. but i hadn't seen it for a few yearbefore i got this call. i purposely didn't revisit it because i didn't want that to be over my shoulder. >>ow about you. >> i didn't wacht. there was another remake with harrison ford. i saw boston those. >> now let's talk a little bit about this play. it's different, obviously. the movie was more about class. we talked about -- it shows a young girl who goes off to paris, the daughter of the chauffeur. there's a difference in this one. tell us why. tell us what it is. >> the differences th time sabrina fairchi and her father have been cast with african-american actors. >> was that the original idea with the play? >> it was not. >> it was always about class not about race? >> but taylor's son came to our

play. he said his father allowed it to be changed. never turn it into a musical but be done with an african-american father and daughter play. >> was any lines changed? >> not one. >> it's interesting to see that lot of prejudice that exists is more class than race. >>it's also something that we don't talk about i think it's great that it's neve explicitly said the play. it's her race that's problem. people in america have very deep thoughts about but never said out loud. >> actually you don'teem to as a character in this play see the race as a difference. >>it's somethingbout sabrina that is special abt her. she sees people as who they are not what they are on the outside. i think it's right that she's not the person who is caught up by the differences. >> that might be more true today than it was bac in 1950, do you think? >> i hope. >> when this play was written?
