crash near dupont circle appeared before a judge today. news4's jackie bensen is live outside the courthouse with new details out what happened inside the courtroom. >> reporter: the suspect has been hold pending trial. she has to give up her passport and agree not to drive. she is charged with involuntary manslaughter. the early morning incident near dupont circle in which kiela ryan was struck and killed as she was getting out of her parked car. a witness pursued the striking vehicle. a lexus suv. and got the license plate. gave it to the officers who responded. that vehicle, according to court documents, was traced to an apartment building in chevy chase, maryla. dor he'da davidson was found in the driver's seat of the car. court documents indicate the victimkiela ryan who was out

celebrating her birthday, was thrown some distance by the impact with the lex. the vehicle was found to have front end damage. prosecutors unsuccessfully argued that davidson who describes herself as an albanian translator on the website, the pros,.com, should be held without bond. documents indicate she was found incapacitated and apparently der the influence of an alcoholic beverage. the keys for the vehicle were in her hand. the engine was not running. the documents also say the bicyclist was brought to the scene and positively identified davidson as the driver of the sprek struck miss ryan. the witness told officers, quote, that is definitely her. now, davidson is still here at the courthouse. she must remain in a holding cell until her huand is able to go to their chevy chase home, get her albanian passport, bring it back here and surrender it to the court. at which time, davidson will be free to go until her next court

appearance. back to you. >> jackie bensen. thank you. the younger brother of dskins defensive albert haynesworth has died after a motorcycle crash in nashville, tennessee. police say 23-year-old lance mccoy crashed into a car that pulled into his lane. witnesses say mccoy was speeding, going up to 100 miles per hour. the driver says he didn' see the motorcycle before the impact whh was so fierce, it spun his vehicle around 180 degrees. mccoy was the youngest of three sons of lin haynesworth. haynesworth has left town now for tennessee. it is not clear if he will return for this weekend's dskins game. a serial burglar crime spree in northern virginia may have expand. this latest crime is the home burglary in the waterford area of loudo county. investigators are looking into whether it is linked to 87 crimes in fairfax and 14 in prince william coun. authorities say there are

significant similarities. aaron gilchrist is just back from northern virginia. he has the latest. >> reporter: the burglary in loudoun is like many of the others. early in the morning while people are home, the burglar is gone in a flash. the sheriff said it happened deep into western loudoun county where widepen spaces are the norm and crime isn't front of mind. massive home spread far apart along waterford lane. right now deputiesbelieve one home was entered around 3:30 in the morning. >> the dogs alerted that something may have beegoing on. at that time they discovered some electronics and a purse had been taken from the house. >> reporter: the sheriff said this time, the burglar entered through an unlocked door and grabbed e items while the residents were home. he was gone in a flash. >> unfortunately these days you have to do that. you leave your doors, your garages unlocked. you're subject to this kind of activity. >> reporter: it is too early to tell if there is a connection but simpson says the characteristics match. there have been 87 incidents in fairfax county. more than 50 of which are home

firefighters evacuated the herbert hoover building. the blaze was on the third floor in an area. firefighters wore full hazmat suits and got sprayed down the water due the particles in the area. no one was hrt in the incident. >> the international monetary fund and world bank leaders meet here in washington this weekend on the streets outside their meeting, there were call for change. >> we are here and we're on a mission -- >> members of jubilee usa network and others protested in northwest. they demanded that economists break the chain of policies which according to demonstrators are harming the world's poorest citizens. e protesters used thousands of colorful paper chains to help make their point. the group also plans to march outside the white house. president obama focused on the positive in today's jobs

report. it is the last report before the mid-term elections. the report shows the unemployment rate holding steady at 9.6%. the president commented on the number during a visit to earnest mayor block. a small brick and masonry business. he noticed that employers in the private sector added 64,000 new jobs in september. july and august, the private sector job number were revived upwards. we've now seen nine straight months of private sector job growth. in all, more than 850,000 private sector jobs gained this year. the president also noted that overall, 95,000 jobs were lost last month. mostly due to government layoffs. he said the layoffs would have been worse thewithout the federal help that states received. and he said republicans in congress consistently opposed that help. coming up at 5:30, meet the prs moderator david gregory

a toddler is recoving this ening after she and her mother were hit crossing the street. it happened around 10:30 this morning at the intersection of aspen hill road and georgia avenue. the child was taken to the hospital. she is expected to survive. no charges have been filed against the driver. a d.c. judge has granted bond for the suspect invved in thursday's deadly hit and run crash in dupont circle. police say the woman who hit and

i'll fast forward through headlines. police in loudoun countyre investigating whether a home burglary in the waterford area is related to dozens of other crime in fairfax and prince william counes. there are 87 cases in reston, fair oak, mclean and the mason areas of fairfax county. and 14 in prince william county. police believe may all be connected to one man.

ingested marijuana whi in the room with her mother and another man. 22-year-old nicole core bet and 25-year-old fernando booker were charged in the case. the child is now in cps custody. she is set to be okay. >> you may have noticed extra security around amtrak stations. it part of a security test called operation rail safe. amtrak is holding this high security exercise along with their counter parts in europe and britain. there is no threat and the test is not related to terror threats in europe. amtrak officials say there is no reason for alarm. they do this several times aier. the unemployment rate hasn't gotten worse but it not getting any better. thiss a development that could end up hurting democts in the mid-term election. >> but president obama is stepping it up to make sure his party stays in power. david gregory joins us.

how doe it match one what democrats were expecng or hoping? >> what they've got is some private sector job creation. but not nearly enough to affect the overall unemployment rate and that's the real difficulty here. all of the effort on the part of the government, the administration, is to get the private sector. businesses aren't hiring. what is that drag? we have some uncertainty because of the tax code. the bush era taxuts which will expire unless congress does something about it which they'll probably do later in the year. these are all factors. if you're a democrat running in this circumstance, its not good. because so many americans are frustrated. they're out of work. look at the dow. it closed up above11,000. yet so many people are out of work and long term umployed being a real problem. >> the president hithe campaign trail yesterday to try to help democratic candidates. he was at bowie state university in prince george's county to help martin o'malley.

does the president have coat tails now t help other candidates? >> it depends how popular you're talking about in the state. in maryland he can ha a big rally. he was in chicago campaigning for the candidate for his old senate seat. as we see the president there. at this int, his job is to get democrats to get out and vote, to understand what's at stake here. the balance of power in washington. some of the republican ideas. that's what he can do now. in states where he's popular, he can get people out to vote. >> they place him out there strategically. >> right. that in some districts, he can't do any good and he wants to be careful. there are also democrats who have run away from him and this f they did it eay enough, they might survive. the senate debates series with the candidates hoping the

fill president obama's former linois senate seat in an extremely tight race. that's coming up sunday morning right re on nbc 4. d.c. residents living overseas will that be able to cast their ballots. a computer science professor and his phd students were hire by the board of elections. only 36 hours, they were able to hack intthe server, find out how everye voted, and change all the votes. this was only a test and no real votes were impacted. the test made a lasting impression. >> the danger of the internet voting is that we just don't know how to make a system like this that is secure, given the limitations have today's technology. >> d.c. residents living overseas can still download ballots but they'll have to mail them in.

his foot was the difference. booting a career long 49-yard field goal, he gets his kicks when the pressure is on. >> everyone is looking at you. it is a pressure kick. no one likes to be you on that kick. three seconds left. it comes down to you. >> he is a tough kid. a good athlete. determined, a gamer, kicks well in pressure situations. and what i like about it, i can have fun with it. i can yell at him. i know when he's moody. and kickers are moody. and i know at. >> that's john moylan and he knows a lot. especially about kicking. >> you pick up. your upper body stayed up. stay down. >> reporter: the former dematha principal has been coaching for 54 years. four of those spent grooming his protege. the grooming --

>> smik a competitor. that's what i like about him. his helmet off. i say you need a hair cut. >> he is more like my grandpa and he go. it is a really good relationship. he teaches me a lot about the school and kickingnd what he's done the past few years. it is good to have someone around you teaching. and he is a really goodguy. >> reporter: on game day, he wears a pat on his number 8 jersey in honor of former dematha standout art doyle. doyle also wore number eight in the early 1950s. in 2007, he passed away after battling lou gehrig's disease. art and michael never got the chance to meet but michael believes he has a connection. pointing to the sky every time he kicks a field goal. >> i'm proud to wear number eight. is great. i love it. i met his family and his wife and i think it is something special. >> i think it is great. we respecthe guys who have come before s. they put us where we are today.
