know it's saturday. college football forect time if you got your game request send tit me quickly, chuck be bell@nbcwashington.com. developments we're following out of chile this morning. rescue crews have broken through the miners that have been trapped underground for more than two months. the drill has broken through. now rescuers have to decide whether to actually try to pull the miners to safety through an unreinforced rock or inserts tons of steel pipe to protect them. even when they are brought to the surface it will take an hour and a half to bring each of the miners. we'll continue to bng the latest updates as tey become available. in pakistan 20 gunmen attacked and set fire to dozens of oil tankers that were carrying fuel for nato. this is the sixth attack in just over a week. no specific group has come forward to claim responsibility for this latest attack. this is all in response to the country closing some border crossings into afghanistan.

pakistan shut down the crossings after u.s. aircraft accidentally killed two pakistani soldiers. prince george's county police are on the scene of a shooting. it happened after 5:30 this morning in the 13700 block of annapolis road in bowie, maryland. derrick ward has the latest on this shooting. >> reporter: good morning. we're in the area that is just west of church road, the intersection of old annapolis road and church road. everything is focused on a parking lot. this is a parking lot where there are two churches and the west bowie village hall. now we understand there was some sort of event going on at the west bowie village hall. breaking up at 5:30 this morning and gunfire rang out in this parking lot. when it was over two people were hit critically injured. both transported to a hospital. one of those people was pronounced dead at the hospital. now we don'thave identity, ages or gendersf the victims right now. we do understand that the other

victim remains in critical condition at the hospital and as you see there several people here on the scene. their carsre parked up at the crime scene. crime scene draped over a number of cars here. police do not have alookout or anything in the way of circumstances or motive for a shooting at this point but we'll keep you posted. two people shot, both critically injured in the parking lot here on old annapolis road. one person has since died at the hospital and the investigation continues. we're live in bowie. now back to you. derrick ward, thank you. the driver involved in a deadly hit-and-run in the district is out of jail this morning. 30-year-old jorida davidson faces manslaughter charges after police say she hit 24-year-old kiela marie ryan in dupont circle early thursday morning. news 4 jackie bensen has more on her arre and release. 14 hours after she turned herself in at a policetation. >> do yohave a comment, miss davidson? sir, do you have any comment as

her attorney? >> no. i'm just standing in for her attorney. you can get your comments from him. >> reporter: davidson was charged with voluntary manslahter for a shocking incident that happened about 1:30 a.m. on thursday morning in dupont circle. kiela marie ryan was celebrating her birthday with friends. she just stepped out of a parked car when she was struck by a lexus that kept going. a witness followed the suv to get the tag number. prosecutors say when officers located the lexus davidson was in the driver's seat. prosecutors say when officers located the lexus davidson was in the drivers seat. court documents allege she was incapacitated and under the influence of an alcoholic beverage. the keys for the vehicle were in her hands but the engine was not running. the documents detailhe dramatic moment when the officer

brought the bicyclist to chevy chase. to take a look atavidson. the witness positively identified the defendant as th driver of the vehicle that struck miss ryan. the witness said quote, that is definitely her. the prosecution argued that davidson is a flight risk because of her albanian citizenship. she had to surrender her passport. davidson will be placed under what's known as high intensity supervision. the judge ordered her not to drive. jackie bensen, "news4 today." a toddler expected to survive after she and her mother were hit crossing a street in marynd. this happened yesterday morning at the interseion of aspen hill road and georgia avenue in aspen hill. mother was pushing the 17-month-old in her stroller through the crosswalk when they were side swiped by an suv. the driver had a full green light when the accident happened. luckila nurse happened to be close by and performed r on the toddler. >> there's a baby laying in the middle of the intersection being

tended to by a citizen. >> the baby went to the ground without breathing or moving. i just started giving cpr, chest compression. >> after a few seconds we started to get a little bit of a pulse back, became stronger as we continued cpr. >> after the nurse performed cpr the child was taken to hospital. no charges have been filed against the driver. after yet another burglar in northern virginia police are investigating if a serial burglar may be expanding his territory. this latest rglary happened friday morning in the waterford area of loudoun county. investigators are looking into possible links to 87 incidents in fairfax county and 14 in prince william. all happened just over the past two months. the latest break in is similar to towers. it happened during the early morning hours whileresz were home sleeping. the burglar came in through an unlocked door and took small valuable items. we suspect that this person is comfortable with the area, that walking around during hours of darkness, probably on foot or

welcome back. if you were in deepwater would you be able to save your own live. sadly in some minority communities the answer may be yes but the reality is no. we set out to learn why and what needs to be done about it. hollywood brought to life a moment of pride in 2007 with a featured film by that name but couldn't ignore a real life problem. black kids not hesitant to get into the water, but not knowing how to swim. this summer prince george's county enrolled 350 kids in make a splash. a national effort to reduce drowning among minority kids through free swimming lesss.

>> it's an epidemic. >> carole runs the aquatic program and works combat the stereotype that blac people don't jump. >> unfortunately it is a joke in our community. it's very serious. we lost a number of youth and adults in our community for lack of knowlge and experience in the water. >> back in july 12-year-old boy drowned in a pool. his uncle jumped in toave him and drowned too. in early august six louisiana black teens died after a swimming party turned into a desperate effort to save them. a study conducted by the univerty of memphis for usa swimming foundation offers startling statistics. nearly 70% of black kids have little or no swimming ability. 58% of hispanic kids fall into the same category. >> despite knowing swim is a life-saving skill there's aong list of compelling reasons that

killed himself. so she was one of the, sort of the people that helped us get it started and she's bean leader in that effort since then. it's an outreach effort through the faith community since they are frequently the first respond towers get them to start talking about tissues so people feel they can come forward and get support at the faith community level. >> an educion effort and really knowledge is power when you talk about this issue. you encourageeople to come up with safety plans, to think about what i will do if, right? >> yes. especially if you're thinking about getting out of a relationship that's hit the point where it's violent. when charges have been brought orbout to be brought or an arrest is going to be made. people need to think about safety plans. what your going to do? will you leave? go a shelter? is there an alternative place you can stay. from the standpoint of going to work and people you can check in with people you'll travel with. it's not need in every situation but something everyone should think about if they are in a

davidson's apartment complex where they found davidson drunk still in the car. she's under high intensity supervision and her passport has been taken away. 2-year-old is recovering after eating some marijuana in prince william county. police say they arrested 22-year-old nicole corbett and 25ear-old fernando booker and chargethem with child endangerment and drug spoegs. police were called to a motel in manassas on an overdose call when they discovered the toddler had ingested the drugs. we have a traffic alert for your this morning. plan on taking the metro this columbus day weekend. if you do change what station you go to. farragut westnd mcfer stone square station will belosed through monday because of track improvements. the lower level of metro center will also be closed. red line service at metro center will not be impacted at all. no orange or blue line trains will be passing through any of those three stations. that mean you have to take a

shuttlbetween stations. you should also be prepared for delays up to 40 minutes if you're taking the blue or orange lines. everything should be back to normal for tuesday morning's commute. the red and yellow lines will not be a picnic either. you'll have to add at least half an hour to your ride if you take red line between shady grove and twin brook because of platform repairs and on the yellow line expect 30 minute delays between huntington and braddock road station because of landscaping work at the huntington road station. you might need find another way around town if you plan on take metrobus. 27 routes in maryland and rginia that usually operate on weekdays will not be in service on columbus day. other routes will be operating on an enhanced saturday schedule. get used to those changes. they will be in effect on other holidays, including veteran's day, martin luther king day, president's day and the day after thanksgiving. there's a party in virginia

this weekend. a tea party that is. tea party groups from across the state are coming together for the first time at a convention in richmond. more than 2,000 people are signed up to aend what they are calling the largest gathering of t party members to date. they represent more than two dozen tea party groups from across the commonwealth. the state's former governor and senator george allen among those scheduled to address the crowd along with the group's home town area, state attorney general ken cuccinelli who is challenging the preside's healthcare reform law. d.c. residents living overseasannot cast online ballots. a professor and his students were hired by the board of elections to test the security of internet voting elections. in 36 hours they were able to hack out into the server, find out who voted and change their votes. >> the danger of internet voting is that we just don't know how to make a system like this that is secure given the limitations

winner of the 1973 triple crown. now his story iseing brought to the big screen. he sat down to talk about his latest film in this week's lunch with lindsay. >> i don't look at it. >> there are certain risks that goes along with doing such a well known story. what kinds of things did you find were the most challenge -- challenging. >> for one thing, you can't be factually inaccurate with a story that occurred 30 or so years ago. you have to be right. in theacing scenes, the gaps between the horses are precisely accurate. >> really? >> precisely accurate. >> even the final scene? >> in everrace. >> have you ever seen that? >> what? >> colt stand up that fast? >> race horses are amazingly magnetic characters. and they relatto human beings in a unique way, at least in my experience.
