it's a shock to everyone, friends and family. they were once a happily maied couple but police say the prospect of divorce drove one man to try to hire a hitman to kill his estranged wife. good saturday. i'm craig melvin. police say he didn't want to wait for the divorce. he wanted her killed. now, he's in jail and his wife istalking. here's news4's derrick ward. >> i'm working with the police, the detectives have been extremelsupportive and i'm thankful for that. >> elizabeth boyd is particularly thankful to be alive. police say her estranged husband, 42-year-old richard boyd jr. tried to have he killed in the midst of a divorce. boyd sought to circumvent the legal route and they id boyd reached out ton acquaintance to do the deed but he notified the rockville police. >> he found what he was being asked to do shocking and toome degree, unbelievable. but when he realized that he

believed that the threat was real, then he d the right thing. >> reporter: from there, county investigators became involved and police say boyd continued to contact the acquaintance over the next few weeks leaving him details such as the layout of the horm where elizabeth could be found and suggesting a gun would be the best form to use. a down payment and five ox si cotton. money and pilled were exchanged but that was the end of it. boyd was arrested shortly after that meeting. court records show elizabeth boyd took out a protective order against her husband alleging domestic violence back in april. they were to appear in court next month. still, the murder-for-hire charges are stunned and neighbors are stun bd hind the trappings of a happy family

lurked a murder plot. >> he has a basketball hoop out there and he plays with him. >> reporter: boyd remains i custody. a bond hearing is scheduled for tuesday, derrick ward, news4. it was the breakthrough everyone had been waiting for. today, rescuers who had been drilling in a escape shaft for weeks finally reach the 33 trapped miners in chile. they could be out in just a few days now. kerry sanders from the drill site tonight. >> reporter: early this morning here in chile, the drilling team made it down success! they have now punched through to the 33 trapped miners down below. and overwhelming sense of emotion here at family members on the surface celebrated as did the engineers, poppi champagne corks, hugging and kissing, tears of joy. at the controls of the drill, as it punched through, an american, he had been in afghanistan short time ago.

on the backside, a hint of a north bree meansa slightly cooler day tomorrow. the warm, moist air, does start to come back as we get into monday so even though we may fall a little shy of 80 degrees tomorrow, i think we're back in the 80s again for monday. but a little ripple in the atmosphere may try to generate a quick little sprinkle late monday afternoon. that may linger in the first thing on tuesday. foranyone trying to get out to see the fall colors, little to low color around here just yet but goodcolor across the pocano's and pea color in portions of new england. when you get up, a few clouds, seasonal and temperatures in the mid 40s to around0 in town and by the bay, and then tomorrow, morning sunshine and a few clouds by the afternoon. just a little cooler than today but very nice. the packers are at fedex field but the redskins kck off at 1:00. perfect weather for that game and the broncos are at bank stadium in baltimore taking on the ravs. 1:00 kick, perfect weather in baltimore. let's hope both home teams come
