damage. harder and more troubling, the fact the damage resulted in striking two pedestrians. two men were struck as they crossed the road. police say hosinski died at the scene and the other short time later at the hospital. >> the reason still under investigati investigation, the drive got back into his car. at that point, a witness to this collision contacted him, advised him to rurn to the scene. >> reporter: authorities believe the victims may have just gotten off the last train before they tried to cross. investigats are hoping video from the station and surrounding buildings will help them piece together what happened. others who frequent the area say it can been a challenging

crossing even during daytime hours. >> they see you coming across and zoom right on by. >> rorter: the lights at the intersection may have been on a flashing cycle at the time of the accident. that remains under investigat n investigation. police say alcohol may have been a factor. >> police have identified the driver as alejandro romanf rockville. solomon burke, the preacher turned singer, died today in amsterdam. he signed with atlantic records in 1960 and is known for writing several hit songs including evybody needs somedy to love. burke died while on a flight to europe where he was scheduled to perform. burke is survived by a large family including some 21

children. solomon burke was 70 years old. rescue crews in chile will practice mock rescues before trying to hoist the first of 33 trapped miners to safety. it now looks like it will happen wednesday. ose rescues set to start then yesterday. crews were finally able to drill a hole down. today, engineers decided to encase the hole they just drilled with a metal sleeve. that's going to make the wall sar when they start using a special capsule to bring up the miners. today, the president traveled to philadelphia to drum up support for democrats. the election is just 23 days away and control of congress is up for grabs. a new poll shows 52% of voters want to give control to republicans. today, the president spent the day tryingto fire up the

h big s don't need help. middle class marylanders do. they are ugly. they are smelly and they are everywhere. sink bugs have invaded the d.c. area. as fall sets in, insects are supposed to go away, but they appear to be making quite the comeback. darcy is live where people seem

to have had enough. >> reporter: weren't these things supposed toe gone by now? apparently, they are confused because of the warm weather this weekend. we're at a local playground. if you take your kids out, you're likely to see the bugs on the playground equipment. the bugs are seemingly everywhere. they're trying to get in our home, cars, offices, even our clothes. if you're out anywhere this weekend, chances are you'll have an encounter with on tell us your worst stink bug story. >>e were eating dinner outside last night and one flew right at my daughter's mouth and she was able to spit it out quickly. she recovered really well. >> what happened when you were on the slide? was there a stink bug there?

>> yes. it was in my ear. >> reporter: they say the bugs have no natural predators except people, who are doing everything they can to keep them out. and do they stink? >> if this was smellavision, you'know why quickly. >> reporter: bug experts say they release a defensive chemical when you're about to kill them. they say the best defense is to weatherize your home. >> elinate them as best you can and then once they get indoors. get out the shop vak and supply vacuum as many as you can and then annihilate them. >> reporter: experts say the bugs are trying to get inside to find a cozy place to spend the winter. so shouldn't these pets be gone by now? the weather has them confused. they think it's spring.

hopefully as the weather cools down, the bugs will go away. every time i go to get in my car, i open all the doors and check and mike sure one hasn't crawled inside. i'll be glad when they go away for od, if they ever do. >> you should know, they found one in the news room lt night and one of the producers was like, we should put this on darcy's desk. talked him out of it. >> reporter: i'm glad. coveri all things stink bugs for us tonight. pree appreciate that. in dupont, water poured from the fountain for most of t day. that made for a wet walk. we'll tell you what happened. also, enjoy the october rmth. chuck bell tells me a cooling trend is on the way.

my dad is the supervisor of a train station and my mom's a teacher. my dad's an auto technician. my mom's a receptionist. i'm not sure i would have been able to afford college without the tuition freeze. while tuition in other states is rising out reach... governor o'malley made theough choice to freeze tuition. he made my dream of going to college into a reality. i'm the first in my family to go to college. my brother and i never would have been able to afford college. even though times were tough... governor o'malley kept his promise. there's never a doubt... there's never a doubt whose side he's on martin o'malley... moving maryland forward.

spillage, the fountain appeared to be working propey. christine o'donnell says the "saturday night live" skit that parodied here was quote, really funny. last night, snl spoofed o'donnl's latest ad. >> isn't that what the people of delaware deserve? a candidate who promises first and foremost that she is not a witch? that's the kind of candidate delaware hasn't had since 1692. >> the real o'donnell tweeted this morning that she was also laughing. the weather now -- >> nice day. tomorrow might be a little bit hot by october standards. great weather outside today for everybody walking around town. the susan g. komen race for the cure ending up in washington today. hundreds of thousands of pinkishly clad folks wondering downtown. what a gat cause. a ton of money raised.

that is the most important thing and people outside enjoying the sunshine. what a perfect day it was outside toy. hopefully everybody that came to town to visit our city had a great visit. 77 was the high. that's also the current temperature after a 55-degree start. tomorrow, at least one of the high ss going to deaden the water. dulles airport, the record for tomorrow only 78 degrees set back in 2001. the record at reagan national tomorrow, 90 degrees set in 1919, but that's also important because it's the latest wee ever reached 90 degrees in the calendar year, so we are going to make a good run at it tomorrow, but i think we'll fall short. 77 right now. winds have come back around to the southwest at 8 miles per hour. a nice easterly breeze that kept us out of the 80s for today, but temperatures, which are still in

the low 80s in winchester, that is coming back towards the washington area and maryland as well. wouldn't think it today, but we've had a couple of thundershowers out of southern pennsylvania through frederick county, maryland. they're falling apart down towards clarksburg. 99% of us, dry for tonight. as high pressure is in charge, it's going to start to inch that front back up to the north, so we'll be o the warm side tomorrow with temperatures, mid to upper 80s. you might touch 90 degrees tomorrow. at national airport, i don't think we're going to quite make it, but it will be close. may kick off an isolated shower tomorrow and tuesday as the cooler air comes back in.
