gibbs said the important work of people like rhee has to continue regardless of the outcom of elections. he also said he does not think president obama has any regrets about not getting involved in the d.c. mayoralrace. a kensington man is charged with a second-degree murder outside a college park bar. police say 21-year-old leonardo ramos attack four people, including three university of maryland students early yesterday morning. a fourth person hurt was the brother of the accused attacker. some of the victim had serious injuries. police say the violence highlights an all too comm problem. >> thank goodness it was a navy a , a knife and not a gun. this was not the first time we've seen alcohol behavior leading to conflicts that in this case led to sious injuries. >> the thirst turtle bar where the fight started is now under investigation for underage drinking and overserving of

the white house press secretary robert gates said president obama's view remains that the ban on openly gay service member in the military should be ended. meanwhile, the defense secretary robert gates said faye abruptly ending the policy would have enormous consequences for the troops. yesterday, a federal judge ordered the pentagon to stop enforcement of that policy. the justice department is consering whether to appeal that ruling. a group opposed to same sex marriage in d.c. wants to take their case to the u.s. supreme court. bishop harry jackson file a petition. he had a group that had argued the gay marriage issue should be decided by voters. a judge ruled the city could pass the law without the voter's approval if it conflicted with human rights law. washington began allowing sail sex marriages in march. jackson hopes to hear back from the supreme court by rly 2011. coming up, remembering a woman who leaves behind quite the legacy at one of the largest churches in prince george's

another live picture from chile where the man in the green is the 27th miner just rescued from that collapsed mine half a mile underground. that has to be a relief to him and to the six more miners who are still trapped. we had originally heard this rescue operation might take 48 hours to complete but it started last night, just about 11:00

earlier this afternoon. it was gorgeous outside all day long. and it will stay that way throughout the next couple hours. then we've got those changes that i'm talking about. take a look at this shot across the city and making its way across the potomac into virginia. that will be about it through the evening. the clouds will continue to increase. we hit a high of 70 degrees. the average high arou 69. that's right around average. another great guy some big changes coming in just the nt w hours. 68 degrees right now. humidity at 37%. those winds are calm. we're going to see temperatures fall pretty quickly. it will be a cool night. down to 63 in harstown. 61 in baltimore. 62 in clinton. and 65 degrees in winchester. those number will fall into the 50s and eventually into the 40s by the time the rain starts tomorrow morning. here's what's happening. one little area of high pressure over our region. at's why we're so nice. and then two areas of low

pressure bringing some rain back here toward parts of the ohio valley. this area of low pressure and the one down to the south will combine just offshore. when they do that, typically we have a major storm on our hands. even in the mid-atntic states. this one, allow, will form a little too far to the north for us. that's some great news yes, we'll see the win and the rain. the worst by far will be well to the north and east toward new york and boston as well. very chilly, very windy conditions for thursday. frid, even saturday. our winds, i think, could gust upwards of 20 to 30 miles an hour toward northern new england. you're talking about 40, maybe 50-mile--hour nds with this storm as it really starts to strengthen. it will be far enough away from us that we'll see about half of the ill pack. rain will be a pblem during the day. some areas could pick up three quarters of an inch of rain. i'm thinking between a half inch and an inch. we're not excting any flooding but it will slow you do on those area roadways.

they're down to just six miners left inhile and tonight all of them could be out of there. one by one the trapped miners in chile continue to be lifted to the surface while the operation has been ming along flawless. there's word some of the freed men are showing signs of distress. >> looking at a that i can interest now, about 15 minutes ago, the 2th miner was pull out. doctors that one of the miners who has been released appears to be having a difficult ti adjusting and in fact seems depressed. all the miners will spend the next couple of days under medical supervision. the medical observion to help them deal with any physil or mental fallout from their ordeal. at the current pace, all 33 as noted should be out by midnight. it's a remarkable turn of

rest of the world. very grateful also to see the support from this country. >> reporter: company from all over the world have donated their services and equipment to this meticulous rescue operation including a heart and monitoring company from annapoli maryland. the past two weeks, a company has equipped the miners with these straps across their chests so when they exercise, doctors nearly a hlf mile up on the surface can ceck their vital signs. >> i'm tilting this back wards. you can see i moved so i got that. if i were to run around, bouncing in my seat, you'll see what happened. i'll go vertical and you'll see the tivity increase. >> reporter: the critical part of this technology is being played out on the screen today as one by one, the miners are being reunited with their families. >> as they're ascending up the drill hole, we're looking. we're watching their vital signs for various thing like panic, hyper ventilation, increased hearrate, et cetera. the folks at the top who are monitoring through video cameras

fewer. 40-year-old hasan has been palyzed from the chest down since he was shot by police during that incident. he is facing the death penalty if he is convicted. police in howard county are investigating a repo of sexual assault of a 7-year-old girl in columbia. the girl that she was walking home from a playground. she said four men approached her and then sexually assaulted her. the girl told police, three left on motor scooters and the other left on a bike. tough any hartley is the widow of an american m apparently murdered in mexico. she is now grieving another loss. the top investigator looking into that case has also been murdered. tiffany hartley said she and h husband dwraifd on jet skis two weeks ago. she said he was shot inhe head by pirates. she wa forced to lea him behind in order to save her own
