street. jackie is there live. jackie, what's the late snes. >> the carjacked vehicle recovered, locked, four-year-old boy asleep the backseat. ese cops didn't want to break the glass, scare the little boy and wake him up. they slim-jimmed onef the windows, very gently opened the door, got the little boy out and reunited him with his mother. she was pumping gas at a gas station about 9:30 tonight, walked with some distance. it might even have been a short stance from the vehicle. at that point, the vehicle was carjacked. it was recovered a short distance ay here in this garden apament complex in the 2500 block of southern avenue in southeast washington. the officers found that vehicle. we are not sure what led them to it, but it's a good thing they were found fairly quickly because that little boy, four years old, tucked very safely, quietly in the backseat. he might not have been found for a while. so the officers called up, the

officer d one of those slim pieces of metal. they worked, they got the little boy out, reunited with his mother, but again, as police tell us tonight, something very, very important for people to remember. never, ever, ever leave your children even for a few seconds in a car because things like this can, and as we've seen recently in this area, have happed. back to you. >> all right, jackie bensen reporting tonight. thank you, jackie. d.c. policeay be closing in on a suspect of a shooting today at the department of public works. it appeared about 6:30 this morning at a dpw building on w reet northeast. witnesses say a man wearing a department uniform walked up to the front gate, pulled out a gun and started shooting. two workers were hit. 51-year-old larry wilmer-hutchins of suitland was killed. police say at leastwo security cameras may have captured images of the suspect. d.c. school chancellor

it is about the worst tng that could happen to a parent, the death of a child from an accident in the home. liz crenshaw joins us tonight with the awful story about a baby found strangled in her own crib. liz? >> you may remember the report of this death in march. a 10-month-ol strangled by the cord of her baby monitor. his security detail tried to help save her life. tonight the child's parents issue this warning. >> this is savannah perea. happy, healthy. the week before her 10-month-old life was cut short. >> we spent a lot of time with her in the back, trying to teach her what butterflies and bugs and things were. >> like most parents, savannah's mom and dad bought all e

equipment to keep her happy and healthy, toys and most important for safety, they thought, a baby monitor to listen and watch her when she was in her crib. >> it's natural, i think, for parents to want to have whatever technology is available to them to help them better assure the safety of their chi. >> savannah's parents knew the monitor had to be placed where she could not reach it, but close enough to hear and see her. what they didn't know was that fateful day, savannah had learned to pull herself up in her crib. >> she was in her crib, and somehow the accident happened. she had reached a milestone in her life apparently, where she suddenly learned how to stand, and that was the end of her life. >> her parents believe savannah grabbed the monitor, pulled it into her crib and was strangled by the cord. safe experts at the prodt safety commission say six children in the pastix years

have died just this way. to demonstrate, it placed these monitors too close to a crib. >> babies chge from day to day. one day they may be immobile, but the next day they are up. and what can happen here is that the child can easily grab onto this cord because it is so clos and it can get entangled on the baby, the baby can strangle. >> they are issuing this alert to remind parents to keep all video and baby monitors away from cribs and out of the child's reach. >> is this a recall tuation? >> we are investigating monitors to see if there are adequate warnings on them so that pants and aregivers know that the cord can be a strangulation issue. >>amazingly, it's called a

and an area of high pressure. this is what gave us the nice weather today. these storms are going to come gether just off the coast and that's going to create a pretty big storm system. luckily for us, it is going to develop and really intensify just to our north. what does that mean for us? well, we're gointo see some rain but not nearly as much rain and wind that they're going to see in portions of new england. they could see 30, 40, even 50-mile-an-hour winds there. for us, it will be chilly, it will be windy, but our wind gusts up 35 miles an hour at the most. we're not gog get the worst of this storm and that's good news. we'll pick up at least an inch of this rain, three-quarters of an inch, but some areas will pick up more than an inch. i'm not too worried about flooding from this system, but we are worried about the wind. not tomorrow, though. i think the rain will begin tomorrow around 7:00, between 7:00 and 10:00. some light between 8:00 and 1:00

and then becoming breezy. winds out of the west at 20 miles an hour and it will feel a little like a windchill as the rain makes its inway in the region. cloudy skies, rain movingn in here. 42 to 52 degrees. as we make our way through the day tomorrow, some of that rain will be heavyat times, becoming rather breezy. really just a chilly and nasty day. 58 to 61 degrees, winds beming northwest at 10 to 20 miles an hour, but the winds will increase on friday, upwards of 20 to 30 miles an hour, and maybe up to 35 on saturday. highs only in the 60s and low temperatures only in the upper 40s as we make our way into friday and saturday morning. some areas will hit the 30s for the first time this year, and as we move to the extended utlook, it does get better. monday looking great right now. >> this nice weather we've been enjoying will seem like a distant memory tomrow. >> a lot of those leaves are
