good afternoon. welcome to news4 at 4:00. i'pat lawson muse. >> we're following breaking news in the case of a spicious death at a u street nightclub overnight. what police originally called a brutal beating and a case of vigilante justice may not have been murder ter l. this happened overnight at the dc9 nightclub. five employees beat down the man and beat him to death. sources now stay medical examiner was unable to confirm that the victim, 27-year-old ali mohamed, died from a beating. sources say it is also unclear what charges the five suspects in the case will face. we have crews at the news conference taking place right now. we will continue to bring you the latest information as it becomes available. now our other top story, sudden fame for those 33 men rescued from a mine in chile. >> at least three have been released from the hospital and are back at home. what they face there is nothing

like the ordeal of the last 69 days. nss kerry sanders reports. >> reporter: they're heroes and they're getting more heroes' welcomes. 33 of the miners taken here to the hospital and now already three have departed. last night to an enthusiastic crowd, cheers, and of course, a lot of smiles. 30 of the miners remain here at the regional hospital. >> every day, three times aay. >> reporter: it's expected later today, many of them will leave. two do have some serious medical concerns but the good news i all are celebrating their freedom, smiling with family and friends, talking about the future and holding to a pact that they made down below. that they will not talk about their ordeal to any reporters

unless they're paid. kerry sanders, nbc news. the morning commute to work turned deadly for a man in prince william county. he was hit by a pickup truck about 6:30 this morning. it happened this morning at stock ridge road. that intersection is near a busy commuter parking lot. the victim was apparently crossing the street when he was hit. the driver remained on the scene and has not been charged. >> it fathered pedestrian was crossing from mcdonald's to the commuter lot on dumfries road. the hicle was struck as he was crossing the road. the victim is a 38-year-old male. he was pronounced at the scene. >> police are also looking for the driver of a white box truck that they believe also hit the victim and may not know it. the victim's family said he was on his way to a new construction job when the accident happened. turning now to the weather,

it really does feel lik fall today. meteorologist veronica johnson is here with a check on the forecast. then a nice day out there. >> it has been a beautiful day out there. over the last hour t hour and a half, we've gotten a few little sprinkles or spritzes come through the area. like fall with the cool temperatures across the area and bate of wind, too, in fact, our wind, barbara and pat, has been gusting up to 25 miles per hour in a lot of locations. so gusty. you n see the camera there shaking up and own. we range in temperatures anywhere from warrenton around manassas at 46 degrees. culpeper, too, then down around indian head and waldorf. you are at 44 degrees this morning, 50 grows start in d.c., 48 was the start in clinton. so awfully chilly and i do think the temperatures overnight will be just as low. 64 i where we are now. we've got a gusty wind coming through the area. the wind will settle some over the next couple hours but it

will be breezy to windy yet again tomorrow. here's what's going on. we've got a little area of low pressure that's just to the south. you can see the spin there on the satellite and radar. so it's quickly moving to the south and east taking most of the showers now on the eastern side of that low down from the northern neck through areas of north carolina. there could still be a sprinkle or two in a few neighborhoods during the overnight. we'll be cleing out. down to 52 degrees by 11:00 p.m. your fast forecast, i'm going for a clearing and a cool night. we'll talk about the fall color that is really coming along in the shenandoah valley. in fact, color this weekend and the sunshine will be hanging on. some weekend ideas, i'll have that too f you in a few minutes. >> thanks. a new poll suggests the tea party may have a lot more followers than most analysts realize. if the results hold true in the mid-term elections, there will be some big changes on capitol

construction work on the chain bridge. that means bridge that connects d.c. and arlington will remain open this weekend. a different story, however, out in tyson's corner. route 123, that's chain bridge road, will be shut down beginning tonight at the beltway. that's so crews can take down the old beltway bridges that cross over chain bridge road. traffic will be rerouted on to route 7. let's check out the traffic at this hour inhe afternoon. hi, ash. >> reporter: it is certainly friday out there. we've got big delays every whi way. let's look at the painful outer loop commute. this is the pace past new hampshire avenue. headed away from us will be the outer loop. austin, the pace is a little slow and you will find that those delays do pick up for outer loop drivers. the inner loop is definitely slammed as you head toward silver spring. past old georgetown road. the one inching along there,

barely moving wilbe the inner loop. headed around towa river road. both sides are locked up. by the american legion bridge, outer loop drivers are picking up a little steam. it is pretty heavy into tyson. inner loop drivers, your big delays on that last camera by river road. you're still in relatively good shape acro the american legion bridge. 95, this camera shot does not do it justice. it looks a little heavy through springfield into newington and th's true. headed further south clear down quantico, we are jammed up. several accidents have been cleared but you can see the pace is still slow. >> thank you. it looks like the price of the smartrip cards will not be going down. the finance committee is leaning toward keeping the price at $5 each. they were going to reduce the price of the cars to $250 a piece. the company actually pays $3.40 per card. they are worried about exiting with a metro balance.

>> let's talk love with ellen mccarthy at the "washington post." it is always good to see you and it is nice to talk about this subject. the bride and the groom this week met through quite a unconventional way. >> they really did. they actually met through their blog when they were both in college on opposite ends of the coast. e was in texas and he was in pennsylvania. and the really interesting part about this story, they both of cystic fibrosis. they've been through a lot. both lost their mothers, too, and they ended up, she had a full lung transplant and after the transplant, she ended up writing this blog about her experiences. and he so is writing a blog and they ended up connecting. instant messaging back and forth and she traveled without telling her grand apparent across the country to meet him at herouse and transferring in philadelphia and th've been together ever

since. th can support each other. they know what each other is going through in a way that probably most of us really cannot. >> that's a rely beautiful story. let's talk about the couple featured on the date lab segment this week. who did you set up? >> we set up john who is 24-year-old defense contractor, and he is thisuy who, he sort of really has his stuff together. he prized himself on being very driven. a real gentleman. he is super outdoorsy type. alwa snow boarding and rock climbing and kind of getting out in nature. and he told us that he was looking for a brunette and h wanted someone family oriented, someone who is educated, someone who will be optimistic. he did not want a debbie downer. we come to that in mine when we set him up with britney. she is bubbly, outgoing, confident type who loves to have a good time but she also sort of has her stuff together. very driven and has a ton of interests.

we sent them out to an italian restaurant in georgetown. they both really liked meeting the people which is a good thing. they went in with really good energy. and they ended up sort of hitting it off right away. now, she is a big liberal and as hedemocrat so they had this sort of sparring match. in d.c. of course can be kind of a tough thing. but they ended up really respecting each other's views and it was, instead of a bad thing, it ended up being a good thing that sort of bonded them together. they respected each other much. >> we all know opposites attract. it sounds like it could be promising. >> you have to read on sunday. they did share a cab after the date. >> that sounds good. >> all right. thanks so much. and of course you can find out all the details of the date this sunday in the washingtonpost.com/onlove section and you can get ideas

still with us. it is a partly sunny afternoon. even some sprinkles coming from those clouds. the dew point temperatures at 39 degrees. not a tremendous amount of moisture in the air. human at 40% and our current wind is out of the north northwest as 14 miles per hour. so 64 but seasonal today. during the overnight, i think we'll see most of those clouds move out of here, going with some clear skies tomorrow morning. the temperatures again, they will be dropping in a hurry. down to 54 deees by 9:00. 52 by 11:00 p.m. 49 to 50 degrees at 5:00 and 7:00. the sun is up at 7:18, set today at 6:30. he's a look at where that rain is across the area right now. a few sprinkles up through areas of montgomery county. west of brighton and west of pen hill. then a little heavier around cumberland andin areas west of hagerstown, then down to the south, around stafford and areas

of the northern neck. these are all moving off to the east and southeast with that low-pressure system moving on. look at that visible tellite. you can really see right there where the low-pressure system is. these clouds rotating around that big low. the main area of low pressure th's up now east of maine. and what this low-pressure system has been doing, not just here,ausing some trouble with travel. airport delays to the north. up around laguardia today, because of the wind. the wind gusts right now at 32 miles per hour in new york. new jersey, that wind up to 50 miles per hour. look at the temperature. 53 degrees. 59 degrees currently in montgomery county at gaithersburg. we're in the 60s. where do we go from here? high pressure will move in. it will be a beautiful weekend with lots of sunshine. then by the time we get to sunday, a little warming with temperatures rising into the 70s. again, first t cooldown. there is a look at the lows

sources say the medical examiner was unable to confirm that he died from the beating. we'll have much more coming up at 5:00. a manassas man was killed near a commuter lot this morning. the victim, 38-year-old miguel was apparently crossing the street when he was hit by a pickup truck. the driver remained on the scene and has not been charged. some of the men rescued from that mine in chile are out of the hospital and headed home. at least three of the men were released late last night. others are expected to be released throughout the day today. the miners have made a pact to not talk to the media about the ordeal unless they are paid for it. a traffic alert for drivers in son's corner. chain bridge road will be shut down tonight at the beltway. crews are working to take down the old bridge. traffic will be rerouted. chris cooley is a pretty tough guy who is used to getting

hit. the hardest hit number 47 ever took happened off the field when his mom told him th she had breast cancer. here's peter alexander. >> she called me and she was crying. right away, i knew something was defitely wrong. she said i have breast cancer. >> reporter: in 2008, cooley's mother nancy was dgnosed with stage three breast cancer. he got the devastating news less than a week before his wedding da >> that is so scary. i've never had, i haven't known anyone that had it. and you just don't know what's going to happen. >> reporter: just like that for the cooleys, breast caer became more than a disease. ♪ >> it was the hardest part of that experience. >> every day it's a different life. i felt like i was not a part of the real world. >> reporter: even today, two years later, nancy doesn'tike to think about it. not about the chemotherapy, or

an update on a suspicious case, what iginally looked like a brutal beating may not have been a case of murder after all. >> reporter: there have been a lot of change in this investigation over the last several hours. it's possible that the second-dree murder murder charges filed against the suspect in this case may not hold. the c. medical examiner is

unable to confirm that the victim died as a result of the beating in this case. now we understand that additional testand investigations are going on at this time. that's what the sources are reporting. that the medical examiner's office at this point cannot confirm that he died as a result of that beating. the d.c. police chief has schedule a press conference here at 3:45 here at d.c. headquarters. that was abruptly canceled not long ago. we were not given a reason why the press conference was canceled. no additional information was provided. sources are indicating there may be some discrepancy in term of what charges can be filed in this particular case. now five workers athat dc9 bar. 27-year-old lived in silver spring. he was thrown out about 2:30 of the morning. he came back and threw some sort of object in the bar and that's when some of these workers chased him down.

from katie in herndon, virginia. she said her credit report is spotless but she keeps getting call from collection agencies trying to collect a debt. she wants to ow why the call are happening and how she can stop them. >> we turned to consumer attorney for your answer and she said tre could be more than one reason for the call. if the consumer has a common name, the debt collectors might mply be confusing her with another rson of the same name. if this is the case, unfortunately, there is almost no way to stop those calls. thcall could also be a sign of identity theft. smith valentine recommends checking all three credit reports to make sure that there is no fraudulent activity on them. and if suspicious activity is found, consumers should contact creditors right away and close those fraudulent accounts. also, consumers should place a freeze on all the credit reports to prevent further damage from being done. so it is important norfolk to
