lot on duries road in virginia. derrick ward is at the scene. >> reporter: pat, take a look behind me. th is dumfries road. down the sway route 1. lots of reasons to cross here. you have a busy commuter lot, a drive-through establishment. no way to cross safely. that led to a deadly scenario. 38-year-old miguel from manassas is originally from el salvador. he had been in the u.s.or about 11 years and he studied engineering before coming to this country. for the past eight years or association he worked for an area construction company. his relatives say he was headed to a job site early this morning when he was t and kill crossing dumfries road. >> he tried -- >> the vehicle, a dodge ram, struck pedestrian. he was crossing the road.

because he had just started work again after being laid off briefly. now, that bit of happiness is gone along with a beloved famil member. >> we're feeling bad. he's not here anymore. >> reporter: we told that you the victim was working for a contractor doing improvements on that lot. among those improvements, a traffic light where he died. we're told those lights are still 90 days away. three months too late to save a life. back to you. >> thanks. a van and a truck collided rockville this afternoon. trapping two people insid the van. it happened around 1:15 on marinelli dre. it caused to it flip overrule they were pinned inside. it took rescuers about half an hour to get the passenger freed. will both people were taken to the hospital and are expected to survive. no charges he been filed in that case. and there were funeral services today for a maryland woman killed by a hit-and-run driver.

those winds will continue. not just through tonight but also through the day tomorrow as well, before finally coming down during the day on sunday. now, live digital doppler showing shower activi. mostly to the west but also a couple of showe toward the east. these will continue to move through the area. most of these will be light but they will be fairly quick. you may see a couple rain drops on that windshid. just enough to get the windshield wiper going a little bit and then it should be cleari out of here. we have an upper level system. the main storm is to the north and east producing 40, 50-mile-an-hour winds. we're watching this upper level system. here it is here. the upper level low making its way thugh. the surface toward the north a east. we're talking about a big time storm. a nor'easter for them. for us, we did not see that big time storm here develop a little bit too far to the north. still cool and windy tonight into the day tomorrow.

what does the term indian summer really mean? why doesn't every u.s. business accept every type of u.s. currency? and how do you get rid of one of those broken down mattrses or sofas? we're not having an indian summer right now. >> i think we're having fall. >> our first question come from rachel in northwest. she wants to know what the term indian summer means. where did it come from? >> when are we going to get it? rachel, we turn to the national weather service for your answer. it said that indian summer can be simplydefined as any spell of war quiet, hazy weather. indian summers normally occur in october, early november.

hello. i'm doug kammerer and we are looking at some sunshine with rather cool conditions and breezy conditions as well. the camera is shaking in the wind. you can see one of those showers off in the distance b also a lot of sunshine out there right now. the current temperatures, 62 degrees. winds out of the northwest at about ten miles an hour. we're going to see the winds gusting upwards of 20 to 30 miles an hour. then into the day tomorrow as well. live digital doppler radar showing showers mostly down to the west of the area. if you're driving out 66 to the west, toward 81, i expect some shower activity there and some of those will try to make their way through our area this evenin overnight, clear skies, becoming clear. breezy 49 in the district.

nightmare that they put up with foa couple years. >> reporter: the neighbors say the reopening is a shock and a surprise to them. an architectural firm nearby says it fears crowded alley that will aga hurt its business. >> parking inur driveway. parking in the alley, blocking the alley so we could not get in and out to do the normal business or even go home at the end of the day. >> this reminds me of what the operator did when they were open for business. in other words, everything about it was done wrong. no respect for the neighbors. the ra appreciated the trash and how they handled it. >> reporter: already, trash is being pile up in the backyard. the owners of the business could not be reached for comment. meanwhile, we've got some cooler than normal -- the wind is pigging -- picking up. a lot of events this ekend.

toward baltimore, the current temperature there, 60 degrees. the warm spot has been culpeper right now at 64. the winds between 20 and 30 miles an hour. it will be rather breezy and into tomorrow morning as well. some of those winds could gust over the 30-mile-an-hour mark. if you're thinking you're taking a trip toward philly or new york, 30 to 40 miles an hour. this storm system has gotten so strong, it is bringing 50-mile-an-hour winds toward northern portions new england. for right now, the area low-pressure system. the upper level low that brought us the showers will continue to make its way out to sea. overnight, 49 in the d.c. area. frederick around 43 degrees. martinsburg, around 41. when you add in the wind 15 to 20 miles an hour, you're talking about a winchester of about 35 by tomorrow morning. it will definitely be on the cool side. tonight may be a night topen up thoseindows to get that

tuesday, a chance of a shower as another frontal boundary moves in. it will lead the way to some shower activity. not just tuday but really into wednesday aswell. some of those showers may be on the heavier side. we'll have to wait and see what it does on wednesday. if it does come through strong enough, coulit really cool down temperatures on thursday and friday. right now we beat them into the 60s. but some areas may stay in the 50s all day long. and that would even be with plenty of sunshine. a lot going on in the weather. the best news is the fact we'll see a beautiful day during the day on sunday. right now, looking great for the redskins as they take on the colts sunday night. at's about it for the weather. i've got more at 6:00 and apparently, we do, too. a man in virginia on his way to work, run over and killed
