one of the most prestigious universities in the nation. students busted for allegedly running a drug lab. now everybody from the school to the feds trying to figu out what was happening inside a georgetown dorm room. evening, i'm aaron gilchrist in tonight for craig melvin. officials believe they found a synthetic drug making operation in that georgetown university freshman dorm. hundreds of students were evacuated for hours this morning, and hazmat crews were called. now two georgetown students and a campus visitor are under

rest. we have more now on this morning's bust. >> reporter: there was a rude awakening for students in the freshman dorm around 6:00 in the morning. >> our resident advirs and some other officials were banging on everyone's doors, telling us to evacuate. >> they let us back in at 9:00, and then ten minutes later, we had just gotten back to sleep, we heard the fire alarm, and haven't been in since. >> reporter: campus authorities have been investigating charges of something amiss in harbin hall when they decided to act. they made a startling discovery on the 11th floor which prompted them to call the polic and the fire department. >> we did, in fact, findhat we had some chemicals that would be typically used in say, a presumed meth lab type operations. >> what sources say was being manufactured was a hallucinogenic known as dmt. while it does occur under natural conditions, manufacturing a synthetic version is a chemical intensive process which authorities feared poses a hazard. >> we did have several people

exposed to the chmicals. some security guards, police officers and three students. they were all evaluated by ems. they weren't showing any outward signs of any reaction or any kind of problems to the exposure, no ill effects, i should say. >> reporter: word spread quickly across campus that someone was trying to put a new spin on the term higher learning. >> doesn't make any type of sense. >> it's weird. >> i never heard anything like that. i didn't know those kind of drs were around here. >> reporter: and this alum, showing the campus so to some relatives who were prospective students, didn't change his position. >> had the best time of my life, got a great job after graduation. >> reporter: so while is this a serious matter with zmat bng called out and three people arrested and dea investigating, for most students in the dorm t tus out to be more of a major inconvenience with mid terms approaching. the whistle blower website wikileaks has disclosed nearly

homes after a fire tore throu an apartment complex in suitland, maryland. the blaze broke out arod 4:30 this morning. darcy, what's the latest? >> reporter: aaron, fire officials say the man no died in the fire criedut for help, but this fire was so big, so intense, he couldn't be rescued. apparently, they found his body in the living room in the apartment unit where this fire started ts morning. a three-alarm fire engulfed an apartment building in suitland early this morning, killing one sident and sending several more tohe hospital. five firefighters were also sent to the hospital after suffering minor burns. numerous residents re rescued from alconies. the stair wells were filled with intense heat and smoke, blocking their escape. >> the first unitn from silver hill arrived to find heavy fire conditions. the terrace level on the rear side of this three-story apartment building. >> reporter: fire officials say the building was consumed with fire when they arrived at the

caiage hill apartment complex on curtis drive 4:30 this morning. the blaze quickly extended through the upper floors and roof. >> they made an attempt at an interior attack and searched for trapped occupants, but there was too much fire. it was very heavy fire conditions. they were driven back. >> reporter: it took about 100 firefighters two-and-a-half hours to bring the blaze under control. officials say they had problems with water pressure. firefighters had to hook up to wssc water supplies about a mile away on branch avenue, because the hydrants at the complex did not provide enough pressure to fight a blaze at this magnitude. >> certainly we would have liked to have more water pressure initially, but it was enough to keep things in check, and once we got the water supply from branch avenue, we had enough to extinguish it. >> reporter: the red cross is assisting 24 families displaced by the fire. i'm told it caused about 2 million in damages. investigators say it pears to be accidental in nature.

so far they have not released the identity of the bh man who died. he was 27 years old. day sensor, news4. ba to you, aar. >> darcy, thank you. crews at the virginia theological seminary are working to stabilize the charred remains of a historic chalnge pell. the building caught fire. it had been a fixture since the 1880s. officials are waiting until the chapel is safe to enter before starting their full investigation. but the grounds around the chapel continue to attract those who spent their lives working and woripping there. >> it broke my heart. it broke my heart. just the parish iself and all of the students who have been througthese doors and worshipped here, and the marriages, the baptisms, the entire communi is just suffering a loss that, you know, i guess will bring us all closer together. >> reporter: crews hope to go in tomorrow and rescue any church

artifacts at may have survived that fire. now to desion 2010. president obama spent the afternoon on the campaign trail in minnesota. thousands crammed into the university university of minnesota hear mr. obama. he attended a rally for democratic nominee for governor, mark dayton. it's been a long week of campaigning for the president with earlier stops in oregon, washington state, california and nevada. meanwhile, former vice presidential candidate sarah palin spent the afternoon stumping for votes in florida. she spoke at a rally fogop senate candidate marco rub in orlando. palin told the crowd the momentum of the midterm elections is with republicans. also joining her was republican national committee chairman michael steele, who appears on "meet the press" tomorrow. early voting still under way in maryland. registered voterwho want to cast their ballots before the nomber 2nd general election can do that through next thursday. all early voting centers will be closed tomorrow, but they will reopen on monday.

temperatures we have seen in about six months. and ended up very, very nicely with some great temperatures, and plenty of sunshine out there. let's take a look outside right now. the sun making its way down right about now. sunset tonight is about 6:18 this evening. so you can see we are starting to see that sun gdown with some high clouds making their way in from the west. we'll continue thoz those clouds move on in here, but what a day today. just amazing. take a look at the lows this morning. 36 in frederick, 33 in sterling, 30 in menasis. you may have had frost on your windshield. 42 degrees in baltimore, and so a very cold morning. a very cold start but we warmed up nicely, currently sitting at 66 degrees with clear skies. but those clouds starting to come in, winds out of the south at 10 miles pehour. and it was those southerly winds th pushed the temperatures up to 70 today. the low was 42. that's the coldest morning since april 18th of this year, and w have a lot more cold mornings to

go. but not any time soon. we're going to see a nice warm-up. 66 right now in frederick, 70 in martinsburg, west virginia. mostly cloudy skies today, sunshine, back to the west we are dealing with cloud cover here and some will try to stream over the region tonight and early tomorrow. so i think tomorrow we'll see a mixture of sun and clouds. most clouds of the high cloud variety but all air coming from the southwest right now. very cool to the north and east. 43 tay the high in caribo maine. but memphis, 83. we were at 70 and we're going to see numbers push into the mid to upper 70s during the day tomorrownd maybe close to 80 by the time this warm period starts to come to an end. high pressure to the south helping withouthwesterly winds, bringing in that very warmair. we will continue to see temperatures rise tomorrow into the mid 70s and as that high stays just down to our south, we'll continue to see that southwest wind pulling up. as it does so, it's also going

to bring in moisture. by monday afternoon, we'll see a pret good chance of showers and maybe some thunderstorms,as well. it's not going to be a washout, but a pretty good chance of rain a couple days next week, so you may ve to get the umbrellas out. tomorrow morning, wakin up to partly cloudy, not as cold, 44 to 53 degrees. so say goodbye to the 30s, maybe a little bit too early for that. temperatures during the day tomorrow with some high clouds moving in. it will be nice and warm, 74 to 78 degrees. winds out of the southwest at 10 to 20 miles per hour. and as we make our way through the next four days, high of 76 on monday. 40% chance of showers and thunderstorms in the afternoon. 78 on tuesday. can't rule out a shower, but i left it out for now. a better chance of rain wednesday with a high near 80 degrees. and that will set the stage for cooling temperatures as we head into next weekend. >> it's like we're doing that bounce back between summer and fall. every couple days we get a few warm ones and then a little
