faculty member there. now, on october 25th, she was found muered in her bethesda home just a coue miles from here. police believe she had interrupted a burglary at her home, and she was beaten to death. her 19 jeep cherokee was stolen from the murder scene. it was recovered after a police pursuit and a crash in the district hours after the murder. 18-year-old deandra hamlin was arrested for unauthorized use of the jeep. but at this time he has not been charged with professor marcum's murder. colleagues say her loss felt here every day. >> sue was an extraordinary faculty member. she was everyone's favorite professor. she's the one that makes students fall in love with accounting. she's a professor that made students want to go into a

bethesda home last month. jerry connolly of northern virgia will get a second term in congress. eaier today his challenger conceded in a statement. that race ended with fewer than 1,000 votes separating the two. fimian is legally allowed to challenge it, but a recount would not have changed the outcome, he said. teens and texting. the two go together like peas and carrots. >> too much texting can be associated with risky behaviors. more on the phenomenon called hypertexting. >> reporter: smoking, drinking and other risky behaviorsppear to be more common among teenagers who text and use social networking sites. they send and receive more than 120 text messages every day. >> these are kids who are getting less sleep, who are less physically active. who are smoking more cigarettes, drinking more alcohol, using more marijuana.

her car nearly five months ago. her killer is still on the loose. virginia state police are investigating a case of road rage that involved a gun and a carton of yogurt. on friday, police say a man in a toyota cut off a man in a lexus in quantico. the lexus driver drove up next to the toyota and threw a container of yogurt at the vehicle. the toyota driver responded by showing him a small hand begun. he was arrested and charged with a misdemeanor for brandishing a handgun. the man who threw the yogurt is charged with a felony for throwing a missile at a moving vehicle. the national mall is showing a lot of wear and tear. it's about to experience a major transformation. a final plan was signed today to restore and improve the most tattered areas of the grounds. tom sherwood is live on the mall with details for us?

city officials are meeting to talk about taxes on cigarettes. they're talking about making a push for a higher cigarette tax during the next session. virginia has one of the lowest tax rates on cigarettes. only missouri is lower at 17 cents a pack. the proposal is being talked about support raising a dollar by additional state revenue and help curb smoking. a nutrition professor in kansas is getting national attention because he drooped 30 pounds in ten weeks. >> while that may not sound like a whole lot, it's how he lost the weight that's a big deal. re on the junk food diet.
